Amazonians, the Window of Opportunity

643

“It’s just a dream come true”, the words of 20-year-old Holmbert Fridjonsson, who today signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic and will join the club on 1 January.  5’ 9” manager, Neil Lennon, told Celticfc.net that the 6’3” striker is “a good size”, perhaps giving a glimpse into the innermost thoughts guiding Celtic’s recruitment policy, for those who have not noted the collection of Amazonians now in hoops.

Holmbert will push for a place with Anthony Stokes, Teemu Pukki and Amido Balde; Georgios Samaras is seldom used as a conventional striker.  He has made 45 career appearances, five fewer than Victor Wanyama when he signed for Celtic, also as a 20-year-old.

A year ago, when Victor was busy declining a new contract offer, we talked about the window of opportunity, when you have enough appearances to judge a player, but not so many that the world and their grannie knows about him.  We concluded that less than 30 appearances would be enough.  Victor made a total of 61 Celtic appearances but was his stock rose stratospherically after 30-odd games. The stats suggest we should catch them between 30 and 60 appearances.

Stunning result for Gordon Strachan’s Scotland last night.  Keep an eye on that guy, he’s got talent.

Really looking forward to another great charity night at the Columba Club, Blantyre, on Friday, starting at 8pm, where we are having a Q&A with myself, Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville, in aid of the Lourdes Fund.  These are always great nights, tickets are available at the door, get along and say ‘hello’.

Many thanks to the hundreds of you have now ordered the CQN Annual, and for all the encouraging feedback.  It’s a bit big for a stocking filler, unless perhaps you’re an Amazonian.

See you Friday.

    20 November, 2013

Evening Timland from a cold hun free mountain valley.

Mrs TET is no a happy bunny, I fried her laptop earlier today, oh dear.

    *******

Did you mistake the laptop for a slice of the ubiquitous Stornaway Black Pudding?

I hope it wasn’t my e-mail that did for it!

  2. Is it common practice in Holland to remand guys until their hearing/trial? Sounds like the authorities are doing their best to trump up a case to justify their assaults.

  3. I wonder if any of our scouts are watching Calum Wilson of Coventry,a striker, this young lad has pace to burn .I am going to keep my eye on this young guy.

  4. If you know the history. Sat 17 Sept 1966. Celtic 2, Rangers, 0

The hopeful upfield punt associated with Rangers’ attack in what were known as their “iron curtain” days was the main weapon in their armoury, and whereas they used the bludgeon, Celtic preferred the rapier. Rangers’ defence was run through twice before they even took guard. Murdoch in the first minute whipped a long ball through the middle to Lennox, who beat McKinnon to it and crossed, McBride clean missed with his swipe at the ball but Auld, following up, hit it past Ritchie and in-off the post.

    Second Attempt

Barely three minutes had elapsed when Murdoch put Celtic further ahead with a clever goal. After a shot from him had been blocked on the 18-yard line he retained possession and cooly chipped the ball into the top corner of the net well out of Richie’s reach.

Very much looking forward to the response from Aberdeen F.C. to the approach from the Celtic trust designed to ensure that Aberdeen F.C. are paying their employees the “living wage.”

The Celtic trust,as an equal opportunity organisation can be relied upon to look after the rights of working people everywhere ,particularly those whom Celtic supporters are helping to fund. They would be well aware that failure to investigate thoroughly the employment arrangements of other organisations associated with Celtic could be viewed only as compete and utter hypocrisy.

Is it just me or is anyone else puzzled as to the timing of the fine. They were found guilty about a year ago? Why now……?

  15. If they pay the “same club” fine, will they not have the creditors at their door?

    Hopesocsc

  16. The polis have a tough thankless job, most of the time they have to do the types of job, I’d run a mile from, ( whatever ‘running’ is)………

There are guid wans and bent wans…still not sure of the %split. Very few are that bright, imo.

The Dutch mob need taking to task for the sake of the law-abiding fitba’ fan everywhere.

This wasn’t about Celtic fans – this was just about horrifically flawed crowd control.

This was about the scoddish media based supporters of the tribute act getting their ain back on those uppity Tims…………….and a broader part of the ‘ wans-as-bad-as-the- ither’ campaign to besmirch us, and excuse the Huns.

Jackanory at the heart of the story.

    Shameful.

  17. In discussion with a friend who was slating the drastic policing methods employed by the FoCus police unit in “kittling” peaceful protesters against the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act, I found myself defending the police in the manner of Major Gowens from Fawlty Towers.

(When an American tourist told Basil Fawlty that he ran the “crummiest, shoddiest, worst-run hotel in the whole of Western Europe”, Major Gowens, the gin-soaked retired resident sprang to his landlords defence exclaiming: “No! No, I won’t have that! There’s a place in Eastbourne.”)

No! No! I told my friend “the plain-clothes policemen in Amsterdam are worse than the most brutal thugs you have ever seen, far, far, worse than FoCus ”.

So testimony of sorts for FoCus I suppose, but then balanced against their lack of enforcement at the recent disturbances when Ajax fans ran amok in Glasgow it is hardly a ringing endorsement of this hapless group, though, is it?

  18. Have a helluva feeling the SFA pursuit of £250k from Sevco for the LNS farce will be swiftly followed by a statement confirming they are the same club.

    Jesus wept!

  19. I think this is one debt they will pay, purely because they can’t get out of it. The SFA will not demand interest or fines which they probably should, how long has this debt been ongoing?

The Media will say look isn’t that fantastic that Sevco pay their debts now, what a wonderful new board. By not paying debts to SFA they are robbing children of football facilities, how many pitches n coaches for £250,000, never mind the charities they robbed with the AC game.

  20. Bought the new annual today from Calton books…well I bought 2 plus the 2 from last year free, guy asks me if I have a car because of the weight involved.

Have had a quick look at new volume and in my esteemed opinion I will say……..

    NO BAD!..in fact I will elaborate and say…NO BAD…………..AT ALL!hh
