The sun shone, McStay’s Maestro’s ‘Celtic’ won from being two goals down and 25,000 people contributed to War Child, Unicef and the Rio Ferdinand Foundation.  Yesterday was another defining yardstick on the Celtic journey.

Getting the balance of these games right, in order to provide an actual ‘match’, is difficult, but the two sides managed it.  There were fewer Directioners there to see Louis Tomlinson than last year, but their contribution to the causes was still welcome.

Frank McAvennie scored a classic Macca goal.  Hollywood A-lister James McAvoy converted a penalty kick and looked as happy as you or I would in the circumstances.  We’re going to struggle when Tom Boyd retired from the Legends game.  Simon Donnelly and Bobby Petta looked like they could still do a job in the pro game, but special mention has to go to Gary Tank Commander (Greg McHugh).  The words “Nice, Lubo”, left my lips as I mistook Greg for someone else after a deft piece of skill.  Don’t ask me to explain.

It wasn’t football as you know it, but it was Celtic supporters doing what they do best – helping those in need.

All this came a day after the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle 2014, when a group of fans cycled from Celtic Park to John Thomson’s grave for the Celtic FC Foundation.

The Foundation is not the club, it is you, me and thousands like us who believe Celtic is something greater.  It works in four arenas:

Health
Equality
Learning
Poverty

There’s no obligation for Celtic fans to get involved, or to cherish any of the above, but I know many of us get a whole lot more out of Celtic by anchoring to these principles.

There’s a sense that we’ll see a new Celtic on Saturday.  Looking forward to it immensely.

Where did Alex Salmond get mentioned? I’m sorry I missed that. I’ll go back and re-read.

Krugman was being quoted. I merely pointed out that I think his forecasting ability is in doubt.

Just adding to the debate. That’s all.

  2. jude2005 – yup, and you didn’t get squished on yer way oot the stadium either. Centre partings & chairmen dressed as parrots to generate atmosphere……

It was just that you said he was not breathing for a minute

I thought feck me I know how I thought I cleared airways just

that it would take about 5 seconds to do it.

Right enough probably take me a minute to get there.

I had two boys from the opposition team clatter each other yesterday

the other team had no medical bag at all and as there were two I went to help.

Ref gave it thank god someone knows what to do…I was looking behind

    me for this person.

Anyhow goalie had blood on his nose mouth eyes closed and blood on eye.

    Lying on his back.

I was like what do I do here… Asked where it hurt etc luckily he just sat

up and said I’m all right just wasting time.

Nose bleed that he had wipped onto his eye.

Relieved but was going to smack him for wasting time. : > )

I was merely suggesting that Alex Salmond’s forecasting was no great shakes either. We were definite for the Euro at one point, then we should be following Ireland and Iceland’s financial template(s)……….they worked out well.

  7. Can someone explain to me where, in the event of a YES result (or a NO for that matter), are the candidates going to come from for the next Holyrood Elections?

These these benevolent magnananimous socialist prodigies are going to be charged with building the fair and equal society that is being mooted for the post-election period when the coffers are fit to bursting with Gas and Oil revenue.

I’d like a look at their credentials myself, and to know where they have gained all their experience at managing the affairs of an independent nation.

I think we should be told………

Would you equate Ireland’s position and treatment within the Union with that of Scotland’s?

Because if you do, stupid and ignorant is only the half of it.

I reckon about a minute because it took about 30 seconds to realise he was hurt and get over, and then about the same again to assess the situ etc, figure out what was needed, and get on with it. The move itself took only the time to tilt the head and lift the chin.

As I said earlier, the odd thing was that he breathed out on release. I guess he must have been hit as he breathed in. Seemed counter-intuitive at the time though.

  14. Was hoping Donegal would lose that game last week as it would mean jim mcguinness would be working with the 1st team and maybe when he is he might show the squad the training these guys have to do and have a family life and go to work or college and not know from one year to the next when they can go on a holiday, now that sky are showing the games more people can see the skill and effort that’s put in .our anto would be familiar with it but not many more of our bhoys, bit of passion on Saturday lads that’s the minimum we require

  15. STABILITY

Yip. the satbility that caused the crash that lumped us into a further 8 billion worth of borrowed debt currently standing at 1.7 trillion.

    Now that is STABILITY.

Or did that happen in an Indepenendent Scotland?

Errrmmmmmm!!! NAW IT DIDNY. Honestly. STABILITY IT IS THEN. I am glad I am part of the UK with that kind of STABILITY.

  16. OK let’s try to get the board back to football and Celtic.

I know, let’s have a quiz. Folk always like a quiz.

Q1. Which former Celtic players have come out in favour of a no vote?

Q2. Which former Celtic players have come out in favour of a yes vote?

And remember. No googling, you’re only cheating yourself

  17. “they are all going to come from West Ham”

Ran that through my relevance meter. The needle never flickered. Care to elaborate?

The fact you shared your experience hopefully it logged

    in memory bank(exhaling)

Hopefully I never have to do it but you might

have better prepared me for it.

    Thanks

I’ve a better idea……lets ban arseholes from the blog…..now who should we start with?

  20. OH! The banking Crash.

Which bank is it that is Scottish that the UK government via borrowing billions bailed out? Billions it could afford due to oil tax revenue from Scottish internaional waters.

this just gets funnier and funnier and funnier and funnier.

I would suggest that in an Independent Scotland with the oil tax revenue Scotland would be far more stabel thatn the UK. In fact unless the UK can negotiate some form of oil tax subsidy from Scotland as part of teh seperation negotiations in return for let’s say, sharing Pounds sterling with Scotland having a say in the setting of interest rates, mortgages rates etc. then I predict meltdown in what is left of the UK.

    Pipe Smoke That Stick.

  22. While I have a bit of sympathy for those pining for CQN to return to football, the referendum is the most important vote any of us Scots will ever have to make and so I can’t see things changing for the next 10 days.

It makes a huge change, imo, from the sterile songs debate or the freedom to sing what we like stuff, that regularly takes the place of discussing Celtic here.

As has been asserted on here recently, today’s Scotland will decide and at the moment here, the referendum is all anyone wants to discuss.

How many ex and current huns have come out in favour of the union ?
