The sun shone, McStay’s Maestro’s ‘Celtic’ won from being two goals down and 25,000 people contributed to War Child, Unicef and the Rio Ferdinand Foundation.  Yesterday was another defining yardstick on the Celtic journey.

Getting the balance of these games right, in order to provide an actual ‘match’, is difficult, but the two sides managed it.  There were fewer Directioners there to see Louis Tomlinson than last year, but their contribution to the causes was still welcome.

Frank McAvennie scored a classic Macca goal.  Hollywood A-lister James McAvoy converted a penalty kick and looked as happy as you or I would in the circumstances.  We’re going to struggle when Tom Boyd retired from the Legends game.  Simon Donnelly and Bobby Petta looked like they could still do a job in the pro game, but special mention has to go to Gary Tank Commander (Greg McHugh).  The words “Nice, Lubo”, left my lips as I mistook Greg for someone else after a deft piece of skill.  Don’t ask me to explain.

It wasn’t football as you know it, but it was Celtic supporters doing what they do best – helping those in need.

All this came a day after the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle 2014, when a group of fans cycled from Celtic Park to John Thomson’s grave for the Celtic FC Foundation.

The Foundation is not the club, it is you, me and thousands like us who believe Celtic is something greater.  It works in four arenas:

Health
Equality
Learning
Poverty

There’s no obligation for Celtic fans to get involved, or to cherish any of the above, but I know many of us get a whole lot more out of Celtic by anchoring to these principles.

There’s a sense that we’ll see a new Celtic on Saturday.  Looking forward to it immensely.

  1. Am I on the right blog?

I haven’t seen any Peter Lawwell bashing for a while, he must be doing a great job…

  2. “Trinity Mirror’s Scottish titles had a particularly bad month: the Daily Record fell 16 per cent year on year to 212,182 and the Sunday Mail fell 17 per cent to 240,100.”

    weet, weet, weet…

No doubt the board did cack hand things but I remember my late father being very critical of Bobby Evans because of the way he left Celtic and a suggestion of some money irregularities and other events.

I don’t know if anyone else can confirm or refute these beliefs.

*Bobby Evans was my hero I wept when my da told me that the Celtic and Scotland captain was leaving….he did console me by saying that we had a better centre half coming through….it all seemed so strange then as he also had a wee shop up at the Killermont Street bus station.

Yes there was talk later on about irregular payments about the time that Dick Beattie was caught up in it…always felt that the goal in the 7-1 game was a bit suspicious :-))))

On his return to Scotland he never was invited to Celtic Park….mibbees because he criticised the board…and quite rightly so it now seems too.

I do though recall my da coming home from the Scottish Semi versus kilmasonic where we contrived to lose a one goal lead and allow the Ayrshire mob to equalise (we lost the replay 1-3)….seemingly this was as a result of a mix up between Bobby and Dick on the edge of our box….might have been nothing sinister though.

  4. Still waiting to hear where this new breed of Morally Superior politicos are going to emerge from.

Surely the YES voters must be back from School by now?

Done my 1st day back at lennoxtown with @celticfc !! So thankful that they are letting me get fit there. Great 2 see so many familiar faces!

  6. So Germany whipped our ass at football again. As they have done economically and industrially this past 50 years as the UK. Yet we have the 2 groups who presided ove Britain plcs relative demise now warning of economic meltdown for Scotland if we leave the UK and their stewardship.

Arrogant and desperate parasites. These folk. Methinks.

  7. Of topic, just in from work and my bhoy informed me he has an interview for an electrician apprenticeship tomorrow, here’s hoping, as there’s not much out there for the young ones at present.

  8. FOOTBALL

Look ghuys and ghals this is getting a bit ridiculous.

Some poster had suggested the other day putting an infobar at the top of the post to give people some sort of indication as to the nature of the said post. It makes scrolling on by so much easier. Like many on here if it was a referendum on Irish Independence I would be totally consumed by it but I don’t think I would be posting my thoughts ref the same on a football blog.

Occasionally, yesterday for eg, I posted on the Hurling final, BUT Celtic news is kind of slow at the minute. Posts re Independence were happening in the middle of ggs updates for fs.

I am not suggesting that those who feel so intensely about Independence or no should not be posting but if the infobar says POLITICS or INDEP then those who are not consumed by the debate can scroll on by to matters concerning Celtic.

This blog is now about 95% to do with the referendum. As stated I have posted on a variety of matters out with the Tic but it was for posters who might have had some sort of interest in those matters as the vast majority of the blog at that stage was Celtic related. The asides were therefore a little light relief. To come across a post to do with Celtic now is rare.

  9. Say what you like about the Russians, but they still have the best national anthem.

So that’s where Fabio Capello is milking the Football authority.

How many against Liechtenstein, who have a mechanic, 2 students and an office worker in their team?

Would love to hear of young people getting apprenticeships and the like.

More opportunities for the younger people is what we badly need. They are the future

Does anyone know if Scepovic has been with the Serbia squad for the last week, or has he been at Lennoxtown training with some of his new team mates? I hope it’s the latter as we need him to bed in quickly and hit the ground running.

  14. Keeping The Faith on

I do wonder how the Daily Record managed to recruit these ‘legends of Scottish football who know better than you’ and why for that matter.

  15. [16:32, 08/09/2014] Jack O Friel: @CeltsAreHere TV4 (Sweden) just confirmed he’s fit. Here’s a nice article on him. http://t.co/1ioLWUPU0E

[16:40, 08/09/2014] Jack O Friel: @OHenleyAlex @celticfc He’s fine, by the looks of things. Fotbollskanalen (Sweden) just said a contact told them he’s ‘fit to play tomorrow’

The best way to get the blog back from these pompous pretentious politicos is ..

    STOP REPLYING TO THEM !!!

Without that oxygen, they cannot exist vicariously here, then they can bugger off to another blog and CQN can return to Celtic, football, square sausage, favourite video clips and the occasional CQN hootenanny

  17. System justification – seriously look it up. It cost RFC their existence, it leads working folk to vote for parties that don’t represent their interests like ukip, the tories, new labour and the lib dems.

Think about it. If it’s broke – fix it.

  18. I am really looking forward to the new guys getting a few games.

I’d like to see the balance and shape of the side with broonie back etc.

See what this new wide man is made of.

As we all know Forrest isn’t going to make the grade.

Hope they are not in the Berget class.

He flew into glasgow last night.

  21. I object to square sausage and roasted/toasted cheese being foisted on.me by saturated fat obsessed culinarians. I wish they’d all feck off to where they are wanted like the bbc food forum.

I’ll be glad when they all decide where the best square sausage comes from. Maybe we’ll all get peace….

    Best of luck with that.

  23. Once in a lifetime referendum.

    Seemingly close as 50/50.

I’m not into it that much either – but I do comment on it.

It’s a bit naive to think it should not be discussed.

It is a major issue in Scotland at the moment.
