The sun shone, McStay’s Maestro’s ‘Celtic’ won from being two goals down and 25,000 people contributed to War Child, Unicef and the Rio Ferdinand Foundation.  Yesterday was another defining yardstick on the Celtic journey.

Getting the balance of these games right, in order to provide an actual ‘match’, is difficult, but the two sides managed it.  There were fewer Directioners there to see Louis Tomlinson than last year, but their contribution to the causes was still welcome.

Frank McAvennie scored a classic Macca goal.  Hollywood A-lister James McAvoy converted a penalty kick and looked as happy as you or I would in the circumstances.  We’re going to struggle when Tom Boyd retired from the Legends game.  Simon Donnelly and Bobby Petta looked like they could still do a job in the pro game, but special mention has to go to Gary Tank Commander (Greg McHugh).  The words “Nice, Lubo”, left my lips as I mistook Greg for someone else after a deft piece of skill.  Don’t ask me to explain.

It wasn’t football as you know it, but it was Celtic supporters doing what they do best – helping those in need.

All this came a day after the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle 2014, when a group of fans cycled from Celtic Park to John Thomson’s grave for the Celtic FC Foundation.

The Foundation is not the club, it is you, me and thousands like us who believe Celtic is something greater.  It works in four arenas:

Health
Equality
Learning
Poverty

There’s no obligation for Celtic fans to get involved, or to cherish any of the above, but I know many of us get a whole lot more out of Celtic by anchoring to these principles.

There’s a sense that we’ll see a new Celtic on Saturday.  Looking forward to it immensely.

Ikechi Anya. Wonder how he would do in the Hoops?

A predominantly right winger, who is equally comfortable playing on either side. Fantastic ball skills, intelligent link play, an eye for a pass, superb turn of pace, physically sound, can score on the big stage.

    Sounds like Ronny’s ideal recruit.

Last night you asked for an instance when a no voter had indicated that Scots were too wee etc to govern, remember?

I obliged, citing one from earlier that day.

Since then you have ignored my posts to discuss further. Strange that you do that.

Anyone else found Ernie can’t or won’t answer?

  5. Sneddoni- if that is the outcome, with say 80% turnout, then approx. 40% of the country want political change on a grand scale.

After 3 or 4 more years under Westminster rule and continuation of austerity measures I would imagine the 40% would increase.

Pressure would be put on the govt to go down the separation route again as I do NOT believe that any of the last minute promises of additional powers would be fulfilled.

The ball has started rolling down the hill and will gain momentum.

    IMO

  6. Big Clunking Fist — The Broon – being wheeled out by the Westminster slugs to defend Bitter Together. The worst PM in over 100 years, so well done to them. Presided over the worst economic performance since WW1 and sold British gold for the lowest price available. A talented politician;-) not seen in the Commons for ages, so does not represent his constituency, as MPs are expected to do. They display an amazing lack of imagination. We don’t need them.

Re the 3 idiots: it wasn’t really the swearing, we hear swearing every day, just the choice of words and the lack of a basic understanding of how to behave in public. I chose this match as I wanted to introduce her gently to the game, a party atmosphere with no care as to who won. She loves one direction and supports celtic, so no matter the outcome she would have been happy. My older daughter comes to games with me and enjoys it. Her first game was the Aberdeen game where we won 4-1 at Hampden in the CIS cup a few years ago, I couldn’t have asked for a better first game for her…….. Oh well, maybe try again in a year or so :-)

I’t’s obviously a slow News day, and I was too busy after the transfer window shut, to discuss it, so will join in since there is something I do have a question about regarding the YES/NO debate. In the event of a very close vote, say 51% for No and 49% for Yes, what happens after that? The 49% have to forget about it for a set number of years, or there would be another vote in a few years time?’

    ####

Once in a lifetime opportunity , mate, once in a lifetime opportunity.

    Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Ridiculous I know, but that’s Salmond for you.

There is a solution though, and this is it.

Less than, say, 40% or more than 60% the vote is regarded as decisive.

Between 40% and 60% it’s regarded as being mibaes aye and mibaes naw.

The yes mob could argue they almost got there, and it’s no fair, and the other lot could say, you only voted yes cos yer daft.

So what we do then is, for the purposes of this proposal, is treat it as a yes vote.

Then someone, not Salmond obviously , because it’s not about him, and certainly not anyone from the SNP, because it’s not about them either, but someone, negotiates the independence settlement.

And when that’s been done, and we all know exactly what we’re letting ourselves in for there’s a second referendum. So all the stuff that’s up in the air at the moment, currency, eu, stuff like that is all clear and settled and we’re not being asked to buy a pig in a poke.

    50% +1 and it’s independence.

50%-1 and it’s off the agenda fora generation (25 years).

Exactly 50% each and we have a civil war to sort it out. Just to clear the air.

    What do you think?

  9. Send in Gordon Brown?

That’s not actually the plan is it?

They can renegue on his promises later, his reputation is trash anyway.

We might be daft but we’re not stupid. This BT mob are a pure rid neck

If Gordon Brown is the trump card then it’s actually hard not to feel sympathy for the folk on the No side.

Ernie you must be anticipating a call , surely?

brrring brrrring….’Hello can I speak to Ernie?’

    -sure, speaking….

-Hi Ernie, Alistair here,,,you couldn’t give me a hand here, I have suffered a slump’

  11. Thanks AoW. I don’t think the Yes vote will ‘win’, but I think there will be quite a large % of Yes votes. Like you, I think momentum is growing, so I was curious to see what would be the options for the future.

  12. Mmmmm, thanks Ernie. I agree it can’t be getting brought up, and voted on every couple of years, but 25 seems a bit long, and forever? Too extreme. Imo, if Scotland had an alternative to SNP, there would be a lot more yes votes…….

To be fair to Alex Salmond he never said forever.

He said once in a lifetime.

Mind you, he used to say once in a generation (that’s 25 years apparently) but he then upped it to once in a lifetime.

    What’s he like?

  20. Looking forward to our game on Saturday.

Potentially four debutants ….can’t remember that happening since the time of Big Billy’s return or MoN taking over.

Don’t think we should start either of the two new strikers put them on the bench, which in turn puts pressure on Stokes & Griffiths to deliver & sends signal to new guys they need to fight for a place.

I thought Gordon Strachan’s team last night showed how you can play a pressing, high energy game

Big difference between them and Deila’s Celtic is they had a rigid bank of 4 and 5 behind the ball , and they knew where to press the game.

Only late on when they were looking for a goal did they press up 30/40 yards from German goal, until then it was half way line …pragmatism vs idealism …hope Ronny D was watching

In its latest jolly wheeze, falling just short of promising us longer sticks for lollipops it expects to believe the following.

At this minute in time we are a short nine months away from a Westminster General Election.

However, if we are all good loddies and lassies and vote NO, Westminster will devote a fair portion of those precious nine months to setting up new powers for Scotland and Holyrood.

I believe that it may be as long as fifteen months ago, some in Better Together were making noises about a second referendum should YES win nrrowly.

My own belief is that they are desparate enough for anything.

  27. Apparently, if Scotland votes yes, average rainfall will rise and average temperatures will fall.

Further, Scottish birds will migrate (permanently) and salmon will avoid Scottish rivers as they swim to the rest of the Empire.

Whilst less likely, it is also a distinct possibility that lava will pour from the highlands and engulf anyone who voted yes.

And, if you don’t believe me, you’ve probably already been infected with the fatal novoscotia virus.
