Assault. With a bomb.

245

After an Edinburgh jury found Neil Lennon’s attacker at Tynecastle last season not guilty of assault no one will be surprised that Lord Turnbull has today advised the jury there was insufficient evidence to prove two accused intended to murder Neil Lennon, Paul McBride and former MSP Trish Godman.

The two will now face the reduced charge of plotting to assault their victims.  With a bomb.  Perhaps a world first.

The Celtic manager gave evidence at the trial earlier this month before carrying the coffin of his friend and fellow target Paul McBride, who died suddenly of natural causes.  The SFA yesterday wrote to Neil Lennon for the third time in 10 days concerning refereeing comments he made.

My advice to Mr Ogilvie and Mr Regan at the SFA is that they fill their boots while they can.  Neil will be free of these stresses soon and no longer be such a vulnerable target for the Association to gorge on like a bitter pack of rabid dogs.

  1. One Nation, No place for Celtic or those linked with them…

So because you mucked up the making of the bomb you cannot be found guilty of attempted murder.

This country sickens me and if it was not for both sets of elderly parents I would be off with the wife and kids.

I will probably be seeking asylum in Carlisle from religious persecution in the next 5 years anyway…

  2. OG Rafferty – could this new evidence have something to do with Tan Man’s attempt to get some brownie points with the hordes today?

  3. Your Honour,ra parcel fell aff the table an hut wee ginger on the toe,

    purely accidental like.

Case dismissed ,Lennon you will pay court cost for these two

fine upstanding members of the community.

  4. I’ve always been proud to be Scottish and that will continue. My pride is not in the hatred of bigots and neandrathals who would attempt to murder people because of their culture, their religious persuasion or the football team they support.

No my pride in being Scottish lies in the people who resisted, those who fought oppression and those who over generations have, believe it or not, made Scotland a more tolerant country.

When I heard the phrase ‘non viable device’ mentioned in this case I immediately grew concerned. Surely this can’t be yet another example of stupidity among the judiciary and underhand deceitful handshakes?

I was wrong and this is indeed a dark, dark day for Catholics, Celtic supporters and the Irish diospara in Scotland.

  5. Afternoon bhoys, how sweet it is to say hun free.

I am astonished , but not surprised with the courts decision, the message is loud and clear, open season on anything Irish, Catholic is fair game.

Like others, if Lenny walks, I will be finished with football if the club decided that they want to play in scotland.

  6. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!..Truth and Justice will always prevail on

I don’t think Neil will leave Celtic……..He is Celtic, and we are Neil Lennon

  7. Remind me again what the “gang of 10” want?

Sorry to harp back to the previous entry but based on Kilmarnock’s decision to ask season ticket holders to move to another area of the ground to accommodate Celtic fans in THREE of their four stands suggests to me that not only do they (and other clubs) in SPL need us but that all they care about is extracting as much money from Celtic and its fans as possible.

No strategies of their own to help improve the game.

I know you already know the answer to that one as we all do.

Apparently studs first in the face of a keeper is not a red card but being caught out by a dive is worth upholding.

They are scum and they know they are. The same Peepel cleared Dougie Dougie.

As for the Court case, I would not blame Neil Lennon if he walked away but lets be clear, if he does then they have won and they’ll celebrate that more than any title they could win.

Neil Lennon has it in him to hurt them for a very long time indeed and I would hope that these experiences would drive him on to achieve more and more with Celtic.

We can aim for 9 in a row with Neil Lennon.

We can aim for a treble again next year

    Then there is Europe.

Stick with us Neil, we are behind you regardless of your decision.

Only in Scotland could you post a bomb to somone and not be charged with attempting murder. We have had enough evidence in the last few weeks to see that this is the most bigoted wee Country in Europe. I would be very disappointed if Neil Lennon is driven out of Scotland as this is what they are attempting to do.However,I could not blame him if he walks away he and his family are constantly under stress if he moved to England to manage he would rid himself and his family of this hatred and bigotory.H.H.

  12. “IF” these two terrorists who have as near as dam been let off at the moment, had been arrested driving in their car (lets presume they have a car) and the vehicle had no road tax or insurance they would be in jail now ?

What a strange wee country you all live in !

  13. I think Paul67 is alluding to the fact that winning the league will lift some of Lenny’s stress.

Also the demise of Ogilvie and Admin FC will unburden our manager in future.

Also as the only big player in town,Celtic’s relationship will change with whatever is left of the SFA.

  14. How much more can Lenny take of this. It’s shameful & disgusting

What would the courts in england have done if they had 2 al Qaeda terrorists in the same situation. Would they have reduced the charge? No chance!

getting more and more disgusted by my homeland by the day.

  15. Paul,

    Arab trust statement

fter being asked by several media outlets for comment, here is ArabTRUST’s response to several reports from last night and this morning in relation to a statement made by Rangers Fans Fighting Fund Chairman Andrew McCormick.

“We fail to see why the current situation at Rangers should be used, by some, to fuel divisions between rival sets of supporters. This cannot be good for the game.

However, with regard to the comments in respect of the abandoned match at Tannadice, the Club advised that the decision to charge less than half price admission to both home and away fans for the replayed match referred to was due to extenuating circumstances, particularly the police and stewarding costs associated with any match involving an Old Firm club. Any residual amount over and above the operational costs of staging the match was reported as donated to the United for Kids appeal.

“Far from being “disdainful”, the Club’s actions were supported by the SPL and, indeed, in the Sheriff Court when challenged by one Rangers supporters’ club. However in view of the Fighting Fund’s stated reason for not paying Dundee United, it is somewhat ironic that their funds, donated by supporters, are now being used to settle the amount owed by their club for tickets which they, the supporters, had already paid for.

The football authorities must now take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that the rules of their competitions, including those involving financial fair play and settlement, are fully complied with to avoid further disputes and unnecessary tension between fans.”

    Bougherra Decision ‘Incredible’

WALTER SMITH is fuming after finding out why Madjid Bougherra was sent off after today’s (Sat 16th?) 2-1 victory over Aberdeen at Ibrox.

Linesman Graham Chambers informed the Gers gaffer that he felt the Algerian deliberately kicked Dons’ keeper Jamie Langfield in the head after the pair collided going for a 50/50 challenge.

Smith insists the explanation was ‘incredible’ and was unsure if the club could appeal the decision.

    Madjid Bougherra and Jamie Langfield.

He said: “To be honest I don’t know if we can do that.

“There was a couple of things in the media during the week that suggests they need to get a review panel together before looking at sending offs.

“According to our lads nothing will happen until next season which is obviously not much good to anybody.

“But whatever happens it was an incredible sending off.

“I have seen both red cards and first of all I have to say I was disappointed with my own player’s reaction to Aberdeen’s.

“I didn’t think there was any great contact at all and I will need to have words with Kyle.

“But the second sending off is incredible.

“The linesman has stated to me that the player deliberately kicked the goalkeeper in the head which I find absolutely incredible.

“It meant we lost a player for the majority of the game for a circumstance that was not the case.”

Bougherra’s sending off is the second controverial decision against Rangers in the space of four days after Nacho Novo’s goal against Hibs was disallowed when it appeared to cross the line.

  18. As i posted in the last topic, these verdicts are going to cause riots at some point. Why don’t they just put on the pointy white hoods and be done with it?

  22. I’m now convinced that Neil Lennon will walk away after we lift the Scottish Cup to complete the double.

Hopefully he doesn’t go quietly and blows the lid on all that he’s had to put up with off the field and the victimisation from the footballing authorities on it. This should be done via the media down south not the laptop loyal in this country who are complicit in all that he has sufferred.

Looks like being a sell out for Sunday.

According to Ticketmaster, there are only 220 tickets remaining….

  24. I would imagine that no Celtic supporter would hold it against Neil if he decided to leave at the end of the season.

What this MAN has had to endure simply because he is our manager, and will not hold his tongue when he feels that his club are being victimised, has turned every part of the Scottish media and establishment against him.

Neil may not be given the chance here to prove how good a manager he is but if it is the case that he goes elsewhere to prove it then let him go with all our blessings because no one could have given more to Celtic, both the club and to us the supporters.

God bless you Neil Lennon I will always regard you as a true Celtic hero. When I started watching my team Jimmy McGrorry was manager and I have seen many great players, one great and a couple of very good managers but have never witnessed anyone who has had to suffer what Neil has for simply trying to do his job.

  27. New Celtic manager wanted….Must accept that bombs & assaults are part of the job and in no way a criminal act in Scotland.

  28. An absolute joke that the charges have been reduced.

If the judiciary are claiming that the accused were merely trying to make it look like a ‘viable device’ ,

why then would they purchase actual substances that would be used in a real device?

    Consider this :

If I wanted to make a ‘mock’ device to cause real alarm I reckon all I would need would be the following items

One box of candles (cut off top)

Wrap each candle in brown paper

    One small clock or watch,

    Different coloured electrical wires,

Attach wires to clock , stick into inside of candles

Brown tape to hold it all together.

A disposal guy would laugh at the amateur attempt … however if you ,or I, received this in the post your first reaction would be one of terror !

The fact that these guys acquired actual ingredients …. shows their initial intent was to prepare a device that would main or kill.

Quote from RN bomb disposal described the liquid inside a plastic bottle within the package as testing “positive for the explosive substance tri-acetone tri-peroxide (TATP).”

The reality is that once they had the ingredients they realised they did not have the knowledge ( no surprise there)

However the initial intent and conspiracy should still be part of the charge

I am surprised they did not add a note to Neil asking that he assemble it himself.

Absolutely outraged but not surprised .

He is so far down the list of potential creditors, even if he won, he would never see a penny.

His case for directed at the Whyte managed RFCIA. Since the MBB is somewhat out of the picture at present, the tanned man is re-aligning himself with some other players. He’ll have a role in a Newco!
