Back to black for Celtic

592

19 years after last having money in the bank, all we needed was ‘Armageddon’ to allow Celtic to return to the black.

Despite a drop in income from domestic football turnover increased an incredible 47.7% to £75.82m thanks to participation in the Champions League, leaving a balance of £3.76m in the bank (after season ticket money arrived in) on 30 June 2013.

The profit for last season of £9.74m more than made up for the loss of £7.37m made when competing with others who were subsequently found to be unwilling (not just unable) to pay their bills.

This summer’s transfers were split between the financial year just reported and the current period, with a £9.66m investment in football personnel and £5.19m recouped from player disposal (clearly the Wanyama sale was post-year-end.

These figures are retrospective and would have read hollow if the club didn’t reach the Champions League again this season.  With that status achieved we are now in a remarkably strong position to continue to scout, recruit, develop talent and improve the playing squad.

More detailed analysis tomorrow.

  1. Good evening Bhoys and Ghirls.

I am afraid that tonight I must come on to the page and relate to you a most disappointing circumstance which has arisen on the CQN facebook page. A short video was posted by a CQN admin, with the title “Scotland. Sad little country”. yesterday. The content of this video was of a march involving some idiots from an orange, loyalist type march (although no banners or identifying uniforms are on view. the singing and chanting make it quite clear what we expect from the fools).

What disappoints me however is the sweeping statement in the title, that these people somehow, equate to Scotland as a whole. Now whilst I agree that Scotland is not without its faults and that it still has many social and religious issues which it needs to resolve, I find it simply disgusting that I, as a Scot brought up in Glasgow have somehow to be ashamed of my country. In short It is my belief that this video title borders on racism. I am aware that that Paul has in the past deleted or reprimanded users who he and others feel have overstepped the mark on this issue. I have asked for an explanation as have some others from the original poster, but to date nothing has been said, no apology has been issued and infact some have stated they need not respond to any question regarding the suitability of the title. I would ask that Paul or the person responsible for this thread has a look at the thread again and comes up with either a defense (which i would be shocked to hear), or indeed an apology.

    I grew up in Lanarkshire

Quite a few of the lads wasted their chance …Mark MCNally took his …he wasn’t as good as many but he applied himself

Watt should look around at the riches other moderate players have made …if he’s daft enough to ignore that …then he must be very daft indeed …

  4. Concerning the grub at Celtic Park.I never ate inside.I always went to the mobile vans. The look of the big German like sausages was too much.About 20 mins into the game, starving. It took me ages to realise there was a wee wummin behind the vans inflating the sausages.

If CFC thought they could make money from a hotel we’d have one

It’s constantly mooted on here …I’ve often asked for figures to justify such a venture …no figures are ever given

Filling a hotel 20-30 times a year because of home games isn’t cost effective …that’s why it hasn’t been built

    It won’t make money

  7. TT- no income for Celtic other than having hotel facility adjacent to Celtic park – hotel was to sit on land across from London road school and was supposed to be complete for commonwealth games also – hh

Watt clearly is a better player than Balde …obviously something wrong that he has been moved on and Balde brought in.

  10. Pf Ayr – the hotel was also to serve the velodrome next door and the athletics arena – I agree football traffic on its own would not have been enough but throw in other venues and add in some conference facility’s and meeting rooms etc and lack of hotels in east of City then they believed it would be profitable .

The hotel rating was to be around 3 star

What makes Scotland a sad little country is not that a bunch of dobs have a parade.

It’s that they do so with impunity, protected by the same police force who harass Celtic fans using legislation specifically enacted for that purpose by the SNP government.

You would have to gentrify the whole area, startin’ at the ole gazebo and spreadin’ outwards.

The only hotel near CP that sadly is guaranteed to run at nearly full occupancy is the Bellgrove.

    Hail Hail.

Sorry for clogging the blog up, but this is important stuff!.

  19. DBBIA – there is a severe lack of hotel faculties in the city – the new world class venues that are being built – the Hydro- Velodrome- Athletic indoor arena etc will only push demand for more rooms- ” if you build it they will come ”

However getting funding in place is a real hurdle

Maybe make it a ” blues hotel” – hold on wait a minute ….

  20. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Tooting Tim- I believe it’s pretty grim inside; you think you’ve already hit rock bottom and the Bellgrove turns out to be the proverbial dead cat bounce.

  21. The tranformation from the new Dalmarnock Station (nearly complete) up to (the Springy Vaults) and the Gazebo is truely remarkable, thanks mainly to the Sir Chris Hoy centre.

The new ‘peripheral housing’ for the Commonwealth games would even make ole Michael Kelly choke on his fish ‘n chips.

This was previously just a tundra for Sellick motor breaker inners, and UVF sympathisers.

    —————————————————————————————————————–

Is that your final answer Ernie? That because of these marchers and your own desire to drop everything bad on the SNP, Scotland as whole is a sad little country. That we and it’s many people who have tried to improve both our own country and the world as a whole can be reduced to simply belonging to a “Sad little Country”. By this same criteria can you tell me what country is so wholesome that it has no issues in its past or present that it would like to change.

  24. Trophy hoy.

Not disagreeing with you but there are bigger problems in this country. Like why bigots openly walk the streets denouncing a minority, other religions and using violence and intimidation to maintain their vile behaviour.

Perhaps, passionate, rightful guys like you could focus on the greater evil ?
