Back to black for Celtic

592

19 years after last having money in the bank, all we needed was ‘Armageddon’ to allow Celtic to return to the black.

Despite a drop in income from domestic football turnover increased an incredible 47.7% to £75.82m thanks to participation in the Champions League, leaving a balance of £3.76m in the bank (after season ticket money arrived in) on 30 June 2013.

The profit for last season of £9.74m more than made up for the loss of £7.37m made when competing with others who were subsequently found to be unwilling (not just unable) to pay their bills.

This summer’s transfers were split between the financial year just reported and the current period, with a £9.66m investment in football personnel and £5.19m recouped from player disposal (clearly the Wanyama sale was post-year-end.

These figures are retrospective and would have read hollow if the club didn’t reach the Champions League again this season.  With that status achieved we are now in a remarkably strong position to continue to scout, recruit, develop talent and improve the playing squad.

More detailed analysis tomorrow.

If the clip is the one I think you’re referring to then I posted it on here on Sunday morning (I’m not responsible for entry on CQN Facebook however).

My intention wasn’t to demonise Scotland as a nation but to highlight the spirit of the people of Govan to stand up to naked sectarianism and racism.

I’d also hoped that those who viewed it would come to their own conclusions regarding the disproportionate policing in contrast to what Celtic supporters have had to endure.

One of my bhoyhood mates made it to the top with Celtic. Two other bhoys who were more talented didn’t make it in the game. Effort and application was the difference.

Glad for the response, saddened however at your continual denial that it is a racist comment. It saddens me more so that only two or three people as you say are upset by it. I will now assume that a new editorial stance has been agreed on CQN a sad day instead we really have plumbed to the depths of whataboutery.

    Very kind of you, thanks.

Cqn is a great place for all sorts of wonderful assistance, from the massive charitable help to simple everyday advice and guidance.

Just the other week I had a very helpful offer when I had a roof problem.

And a couple of seasons back one guy kindly arranged for the Blackpool Shamrock bus to bring me and the kid back/down for a midweek game when we were down on hols.

The blog is full of kind generous and helpful Celts.

  5. Right guys, me heid is nipping. Too many experts on this site now for me. It was brilliant in the ole days when it was Celltic Supporters who graced this sacred blog. Now it is filled with financial experts, coaching experts and refereeing experts which, I think takes a wee bit away from an ordinary supporters blog. I am a Celtic Supporter, bog standard, and I love my club. So, as cannot compete with all the experts,, I will continue to lurk and give my odd opinion. Still love you all mind you. :)

Seriously interested in what efforts there are to counter these bigots. The protest is one of the few times ive seen anything organised to face the bigots down. I’m sure good scots folk would flock to a banner to denounce these brownshirts ?

Which makes the foul mouthed rant against you the other night, so wrong. Thanks for your support when he tried to wind me up. :)

  10. Are you saying that after watching a video where the Police stand back and do nothing as the hordes sing the outlawed and overtly racist famine song that I am a racist for calling my country – where those in authority have allowed this sort of thing to happen for decades – sad?

Is that what you are saying? I found it sad you don’t fine. You appease the racists all you want – I prefer to condemn them. And you asked me for an apology!!!!

Most experts are self appointed so really they are just football fans showing off a bit. We all love the football really – it’s the huns fault we all got into accountancy, tax law and debt/equity definitions.

If we stopped taliking about the huns it would be fitba again.

Can’t wait for next Tues and so happy i got a second ticket today for my dad(after my moan about previous allocation).

I noticed you scrolled back to that post I was on about after the Milan game by you know who.Pathetic it was.Celtic fan? Had all the hallmarks of a raving loony Zombie to me..

  15. People on here posting about a hotel not being viable and making money for Celtic. I was down at MK Dons stadium a few months ago and it was as good as any in the SPL or SPFL, whatever. All I would like to say is it was aTuesday or Wednesday and the place was heaving, a better more modern football stadium than anything in Scotland outside Paradise.

I don’t even know what leauge they play in. Have a look it’s unbeleivable.

I watch every game Barca play, and from mid to front, they are so much better than last year, imo of course, but they are worse at the back, again imo.

I was talking to a Barca supporter at the weekend, he was enthusing about Neymar, and I had to agree, but I said that I reckoned that they could have better spent the 50m or whatever it was euros,on a couple of quality defenders, the look of realisation on his face was a picture, defenders was what their need was, and still is.

They may well be good enough going forward to beat us, but they will struggle in the later stages, they can’t defend set pieces, we must take advantage of that.

I’m sure Lenny knows how to tackle them again.

There are more than enough “experts” on here. I don’t have a problem with that, I just wish I could understand wtf they are talking about most of the time. Why don’t they start their own “Celtic Financial Interrogation” or “Coaching Celtic Style” or “Refereeing the Celtic Way” No offence meant to anyone. Just my opinion. And I will say, Night Night timland #3 (Ask Summa,) who I know is lurking. How you doing young Mhan. :))
