Back to black for Celtic

592

19 years after last having money in the bank, all we needed was ‘Armageddon’ to allow Celtic to return to the black.

Despite a drop in income from domestic football turnover increased an incredible 47.7% to £75.82m thanks to participation in the Champions League, leaving a balance of £3.76m in the bank (after season ticket money arrived in) on 30 June 2013.

The profit for last season of £9.74m more than made up for the loss of £7.37m made when competing with others who were subsequently found to be unwilling (not just unable) to pay their bills.

This summer’s transfers were split between the financial year just reported and the current period, with a £9.66m investment in football personnel and £5.19m recouped from player disposal (clearly the Wanyama sale was post-year-end.

These figures are retrospective and would have read hollow if the club didn’t reach the Champions League again this season.  With that status achieved we are now in a remarkably strong position to continue to scout, recruit, develop talent and improve the playing squad.

More detailed analysis tomorrow.

Where is old “Charlie Chuckles when you want to compare bank accounts?.

Well done to all at Celtic, from the board down to the scouting staff. With this seasons CL money, and Vic and Hoopers cash,we are in wonderful shape.

Still could have done with a PROVEN striker though.

Hopefully we have the guy in to do that for us.

Dont know about anyone else, but I am sick reading in the MSM about the outbreak of naked sectarianism and bigotry down Govan Rd way at the weekend.Have these people nothing better to write about?!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  2. All very encouraging…

    Credit where credit is due.

As things stand next seasons figures should be more impressive,

with CL participation and the excess from player sales.

And That’s before Matthews potential future world record beating

    transfer to Real Madrid ;-)

If we can produce some more San Siro-esque performances

I’d imagine the value of our current playing squad will also have

    increased somewhat…

    Remarkably strong position indeed.

  3. Good news on the accounts………

My account appears to have activated now (very quick!). I’m just checking – there are actually three types of shares –

“Celtic plc (CCP) Ordinary 1p” – [price is 64p each]

“Celtic plc (CCPA) 6% Cnv Cum Prf 60p” – [price is 70p each]

“Celtic plc (CCPC) Cnv Pfd Ordinary GBP1” – [price is 130p each]

Come on you financially aware chaps – which ones (and how many) do CC and me have to buy to allow them to be counted as a proxy in Canalamar’s resolution.

Definitive answers only please – no guesswork / theories (I have them myself!)

There’ll will have already been standard signs indicating the speed limit for that area was 20mph (now really common in residential streets). The big 20 on the road itself is just a reminder.

I’ll be honest, I’m amazed your friend didn’t realise it was an indication of the speed limit for the road he was on.

  12. jude2005-i think the penalty is higher if it’s near a school, where you see a lot of the 20mph markings.

At least us aul’hauns are wide awake and smellin’ the ole java

  14. On current expenditure , excluding player transfers, and CL income Celtic trade at a loss.

CL participation is imperative if our club is not to shrink.

The risk that was taken in weakening our team before the CL qualifiers must not be repeated.

New players did not have time to settle and bed in , and therefore have had little impact on our qualification.

Players such as Wanyama would not be sold for figures as high as £12million pounds.

Had they not performed well in the CL.

The board, the management team, and the scouts have to find a way of acquiring new players .

That allows them time to settle in for CL qualification .

Success off the park , can only be obtained if we are successfull on it.

If that Karagandy rebound from the bar had fallen at a Karagandy players feet ,then there is the potential for financial disaster.

A circa £24 million drop in income , and players like Wanyama being sold for £6 million instead of £12 million.

Whilst the board will be patting themselves on the back, I hope they realise how lucky they have been .

They must learn from this close season and reduce the risk of failing to qualify for the CL.

Tens of thousands of fans are no longer attending SPL matches.

Without the glamour of CL football ,

Season tickets sales would drop again by many thousands.

Whilst there can be no guarantee of CL qualification, the board etc, must do all that they can to enhance our chances.

    TT

I have 3 points on my license.

They were obtained because I was driving at 26 MPH going past East Wemyss primary school.

My offence occurred at 7.15 am on a Saturday morning.

The sun was splitting the sky , visibility was clear.

During the ten minutes that I was stopped and cautioned .

Not one other car motored past .

Indeed the only other human beings in the street were the two police officers who stopped me.

They could easily just have given me a polite warning.

The one defence that I did not have was a lack of 20 MPH signs.

    There were several.

I chose to ignore them .

I figured that because of the time, weekend, and relatively low speed .

Nobody would consider my driving as risky.

The officers told me that they were under strict orders to caution and charge offenders.

    Especially near to schools.

I still feel that it was tough on me.

The best laugh about the books is the single biggest contributor was the manager, none of the financial wizards come near to matching his performance, not recognised enough by those who associate all the good news as a result of the boards work, IMO it identifies they only need to be competent, nothing special about them, though there’s plenty special about our manager whose coat tails they are hanging onto.

A very sensible post with which I entirely agree. If we are to continue with the policy of buying potential to develop and sell on at a profit it has to be managed properly.

Otherwise we may not be so lucky when we come up against the next Karagandy.
