Back to black for Celtic

592

19 years after last having money in the bank, all we needed was ‘Armageddon’ to allow Celtic to return to the black.

Despite a drop in income from domestic football turnover increased an incredible 47.7% to £75.82m thanks to participation in the Champions League, leaving a balance of £3.76m in the bank (after season ticket money arrived in) on 30 June 2013.

The profit for last season of £9.74m more than made up for the loss of £7.37m made when competing with others who were subsequently found to be unwilling (not just unable) to pay their bills.

This summer’s transfers were split between the financial year just reported and the current period, with a £9.66m investment in football personnel and £5.19m recouped from player disposal (clearly the Wanyama sale was post-year-end.

These figures are retrospective and would have read hollow if the club didn’t reach the Champions League again this season.  With that status achieved we are now in a remarkably strong position to continue to scout, recruit, develop talent and improve the playing squad.

More detailed analysis tomorrow.

    The ramsdens cup. How embarrassing.

    ——

Vanguard Bears extols the virtues of the Pawnbrokers Cup:

“We will continue to work our way back up through the leagues and we will continue to provide welcome benefits to those clubs we meet on the way. If we win the Ramsdens Challenge Cup we will celebrate it as another milestone passed on our journey, much as we will celebrate winning the SPFL division 1 title, the Scottish League Cup, the Scottish F.A Cup and the SPFL Championship. Only the SPFL Premiership will be celebrated more. No Scottish club has ever won every league and domestic trophy available, so it will be nice to add more honours to our long history and perhaps get the ‘full house’.”

They’ll get to the mad house first.

For all we know it could be too late, six weeks are needed to propose a resolution, the board only need to give four weeks notice of the AGM, so to kill it they oh need to announce the next AGM Iain the next four weeks they’ve got two weeks to kill it.

Cheers snecker and bump for this from last thread. H.H.

Paul you say “Not only did Neil reach what we used to refer to as ‘the next level’ in Europe, he did so against an enormous redistribution of financial power in Europe.” However you omit to comment on the biggest handicap Neil had, that Martin (by and large) did not have, and that is the almost visceral hatred engendered by the Scottish media and football authorities (Yes you Hugh) among the public that made Neil’s life almost impossible.

How Neil put up with the vitriol that flowed from the media and was picked up by the lumpen bigots I will never know. The bombs, bullets, beatings that the man from Lurgan put up with make him a hero in my book, even if we never won a thing, but we did win, despite these events, and despite financial doping from Walter and despite cheating referees.

I honestly don’t know why he is still here to win anything.

I know Martin had to put up with the same anti-RC and anti-Irish sentiment to a degree and I know his home life was affected when the thugs planted the Union Jack in his garden, but the treatment Neil got was of a different scale.

Then even when the nation saw Neil being assaulted on live TV and the assailant pleaded guilty to it and apologised for it and his counsel admitted the assault …the thug who did it was found not guilty by an Edinburgh jury!

Hear it from Paul McBride who also got the letter bomb threats as a consequence of being associated with Neil on video here: http://scottishlaw.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/top-qc-paul-mcbride-calls-for-jury.html

After I hear this on Newsnight Scotland it convince me that there a need to know more about jurors who also judge us and that is why this petition seeks to know, for instance do they belong to the freemasons, or the Orange Order, or the BNP, or the Ku Klux Klan (all legal organisations).

To paraphrase a fool, I think we have the right to know what these people are [who judge us]

Get signing, or they might think we like things the way they are!

If we take out the seats we maybe due a discount as it is unfurnished and unoccupied for most of the year. I mean how many days a year is it used??

If we are daft enough to take on the pawn shop final, should it materialize the way we don’t want, I think we would save on the removal costs…!

Funny you should say that about the share price. Im thinking about folk who have bought shares just to have their say.

On a very wide spectrum and for the future there is a bit of history going to need addressing.

    Mick,

If the zombies are in the pawnshop final it won’t be at Celtic Park according to the press.Hire of the stadium and plod costs too expensive apparently. So you can be sure they will be pushing for Mordor. If that happens and Raith Rovers win their semi Turnbull Hutton has already said they will withdraw from the tournament.

Hello there, just read your post and thought I would pipe in with my own experience. Paul McBride was embalmed after his pm in pakistan. Now not to be too hard on pakistani Embalmers but they aren’t exactly up to the standard of embalmers here. So Mr McBrides remains were not in a suitable condition when they came back home. Also dealing with pathologists, they say a second post mortem rarely finds a different cause of death due to the original eviscerstion, plus the plasticity of the tissues and viscera after the formaldehyde has been applied makes finding another cause almost impossible.

Thanks for your reply. I sincerely hope that Tony Watt makes it to the top in the game. Whether that is with us or elsewhere. From a selfish perspective, I want it to be at Celtic, as I am sure your good self does.

The ex Ajax goalie Stanley, was not as enthusiastic as the fans, however. :)

If as is being reported young Tony Watt is unfit it doesnt say good things about the lad thousands would love to play for Celtic and if all it needed was to be fit you bet they would be fit.Tony is 19 or 20 and is supposed to be a professional athlete if he is not fit at that age he never will be.I am certain his loan spell and his fitness levels and attitude when he returns to Celtic will go along way to deciding his footballing future.H.H.

  19. Sorry a wee bit off topic.
