Battle of the Ages ends with LLLLLiquidation Day!

407

I took and made a few calls after the BBC broke the news about Rangers liquidation.  So much to discuss, so many possibilities and so much uncertainty remains.  Rangers are gone and whatever you think or hear about a Newco, it will be a shadow of the club Rangers were in the early 80s, never mind today.  But still, we have plenty to focus on as we prepare for the enormous events that lie ahead.

I then took a call from my Dad who told me to forget about tomorrow. “This day is about history, about all the events over all the years”. How true.

My friends in Celtic, tonight raise a glass to Celtic fans past, who never lived to see how this Battle of the Ages ended, celebrate for each of them. Celebrate all of those league titles and cups you were denied which were ‘won’ illegally by Rangers over the last 14 years. Celebrate for every hard working man and woman in the country who pays their tax every month, no matter the hardship. This is a victory for all of us. LLLLLLLLLLLiquidation Day is here!

We’ll worry about how other clubs plan to get their hands on your money tomorrow.

apologies if this is a widely know fact.”

    I saw the tweet.

I had heard Murray snr had gambled away the business he had built up but not that he had done time for fraud.

Just goes to show the grip his son had on the Scottish media that the little snippet had been kept quiet.

  2. And best of all

A child has already probably been born who will ask in all seriousness ” but dad, who were this team called Rangers ? “

The doubters (and I do understand why) that this day would come reminded me of what happened to work camp prisoners (like in Schindlers list) who when freed stayed where they were because that is what they were used to.

That their world had changed simply did not register because they had yet to walk in the new world dawning and then shape it.

Not only doubters have to come to terms with the new reality, football governors and Chairmen have to come to terms as well.

Will they try and shape the new reality in a different more equitable form or will they wander back into the camp?

  4. A good war of words going on over on Twitter between Tom English and Phil Mc. Tom not happy about the Celtic fans getting into a froth over this, compares us badly with the Rangers fans who are responding to the news with “a stunned dignity”.

I kid you not – a stunned dignity.

  5. Jelly & Ice Cream all round. I have not posted since before 14/02/2012. I have been lurking and waiting for this day. Each orc on SSN has had me laughing like mad.

Off to get some nice wine and celebrate this fine day.

    Hail Hail

  6. Full time nonsense case Tom English going on about the “stunned dignity” of Rangers fans.

Has there ever been a word more abused than “dignity” (apart from “journalist” of course) ?

  9. This IS the day made memorable by the Lhord. A wee bitty blasphemous, I dare say, but it sits well with me. Now, to see thems utterly done and dusted.

By the way, I take it the blog was broken with too many of us wanting to express our sheer delight. I hope there are yet more moments like this to savour before they disappear from Scottish football.

At this time, it is only appropriate to say thanks to Paul67, Auldheid, Paul McC and Phil, with doffs of the cap to the likes of TBB for keeping us informed of the real state of affairs down Ibrox way.

    WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED.

  10. Paul, et al

No, no, no, I’m sorry, you are all mistaken; I’m absolutely positive I heard some radio discusisons about this story and distinctly remember a Mr Keevins saying thay we are all just internet bampots.

playfusbal4dguilders – Alex T tweet that Murray should be worried by HMRC pursuing him and THAT MURRAY’S FATHER HAD SPENT TIME IN JAIL FOR FRAUD.

I noticed that earlier on and was astounded of forehead.

Maybe I just missed it, but was this ever mentioned in the Scottish press?

Not that Sir David is responsible for the sins of his father, but I’m astonished I haven’t heard this one before from the Scottish press.

I mean, they dredge up any dirt they can find that is even tenuously related to Celtic. The DR famously once ran a story called “Celtic Star McStay Drug Shame” (or words to that effect), which turned out to be a story about how Paul McStay’s cousin’s girlfriend allegedly smoked weed at a party.

Did I miss the “Sir David Murray’s Dad In Jail For Fraud Shame” stories?

Or did the Laptop Loyal just not dare to ever mention it, for fear of offending their dark master? (thumbsup)

  15. You’ve got to post on this momentous day don’t you! A wry smile creeps across the face at the thought of all that Hun bombast that has polluted our eardrums over the years, this is where that attitude has led them. Just desserts.

Time now to think about topics of conversation when I meet with SPL club board member tonight. I hope he is excited at champions league qualification opportunities in years to come!

  16. Here’s one for Sir Minty…

I used to rule the world

Seas would rise when I gave the word

Now in the morning I sleep alone

Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice

Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes

Listen as the crowd would sing

“Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!”

One minute I held the key

Next the walls were closed on me

And I discovered that my castles stand

Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing

    Roman Cavalry choirs are singing

Be my mirror, my sword and shield

My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can’t explain

Once you go there was never

    Never an honest word

And that was when I ruled the world

It was the wicked and wild wind

Blew down the doors to let me in

Shattered windows and the sound of drums

People couldn’t believe what I’d become

    Revolutionaries wait

For my head on a silver plate

Just a puppet on a lonely string

Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing

    Roman Cavalry choirs are singing

Be my mirror, my sword and shield

My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can’t explain

I know Saint Peter won’t call my name

    Never an honest word

But that was when I ruled the world

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing

    Roman Cavalry choirs are singing

Be my mirror, my sword and shield

My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can’t explain

I know Saint Peter won’t call my name

    Never an honest word

The day the deluded said would never come is here at last. It is time to raise a glass and enjoy a truly historical event. You have been brilliant in keeping us informed throught this saga.

What we can expect now is ugly scenes from ugly people. Internal strife, more lies from the media, and a litany of court cases.

I do not expect any football club to be playing at Ibrox next season.

  25. And with Impeccable timing the Official Celtic site has this…

SCOTT Brown believes Celtic will be ready to hit the ground running for the crucial Champions League third qualifying round at the end of July.

It will be the Hoops´ first competitive fixture of the new campaign and they could face teams in the midst of their season who hold a substantial advantage in match sharpness.

However, the captain revealed the squad had been working on their fitness throughout the summer break with that game in mind.

“We do it every year,” he said. “It´s always hard. There will be teams halfway through their season and at the peak of their fitness.

“But nowadays we all keep ourselves really fit and ticking over. We have programmes and heart-rate monitors to take away to make sure we have been doing our bit.”

Brown enjoyed an excellent end to last season, helping Celtic clinch the title with some outstanding midfield displays.

Ankle surgery had curtailed his progress in the first part of the campaign and he´s hoping for an injury-free start to 2012/13.

“At the start of the season, I did my metatarsal and I didn’t come back for six to eight weeks. When I came back the lads were on a great run and it definitely helped my confidence.

The skipper also chipped in with several important goals last season on his return to the team. At the same time, he also served as a reliable plunderer of penalty kicks.

“Half of them were penalties – and it´s easier scoring from 12 rather than 20 yards!,” he added. “But it was still good.”

  26. Pual67,

It’s a great day for Tims passed and present the world over.

Why do you think this news broke today, after all….. the vote isn’t till Thursday?

Do you think/expect a legal challenge to D&P deal to sell all Green for 5.5m?

I’ve that ‘gut feeling’ there’s going to be more court cases re who owns/buys rangers over the coming months.

I see the vote is still going ahead on Thursday (so the radio was saying) what way do you think Celtic will vote re the CVA????…….hahaha
