Battle of the Ages ends with LLLLLiquidation Day!

407

I took and made a few calls after the BBC broke the news about Rangers liquidation.  So much to discuss, so many possibilities and so much uncertainty remains.  Rangers are gone and whatever you think or hear about a Newco, it will be a shadow of the club Rangers were in the early 80s, never mind today.  But still, we have plenty to focus on as we prepare for the enormous events that lie ahead.

I then took a call from my Dad who told me to forget about tomorrow. “This day is about history, about all the events over all the years”. How true.

My friends in Celtic, tonight raise a glass to Celtic fans past, who never lived to see how this Battle of the Ages ended, celebrate for each of them. Celebrate all of those league titles and cups you were denied which were ‘won’ illegally by Rangers over the last 14 years. Celebrate for every hard working man and woman in the country who pays their tax every month, no matter the hardship. This is a victory for all of us. LLLLLLLLLLLiquidation Day is here!

We’ll worry about how other clubs plan to get their hands on your money tomorrow.

  2. On Monday the SPL meet to discuss the dual contracts. The rotten carcass will be stripped of titles and cups as well.

    Thank You God…

Do player contracts not revert to the SPL as opposed to being free agents in the normal sense?

  4. Fixtures due out at 9am on Monday. We know 11 of the teams, wonder what they’ll publish as the 12th?

As the Hun players tear up their contracts.. In the knowledge they took a 75% pay cut for nothing, I wonder if any would discount a move to Celtic?

Well well well, it was a strange sensation to finally hear that they are gone. There will be lots of nonsense talked over the next few days and I completely agree, savour the moment, when this organisation was further found out and have paid some of the price for their approach.

Here’s to Scottish football may they grow and enjoy a fruitful season.

The general secretary of the Rangers Supporters Association John Macmillan hopes HMRC’s CVA rejection does not spell the end for the Glasgow club.

Macmillan says the next few days are crucial, as Rangers are relying on the goodwill of other clubs to enable them to re-join the Scottish Premier League.

“There’s very little time left,” said Macmillan. “Because the fixture list is due out within the next week or so.

“It looks as if our fate is in the hands of the football authorities now.”

Rangers FC is now facing liquidation after a creditors’ deal was rejected by HMRC on Monday and will have to re-form as a new company if it is to continue football operations.

The remaining 11 SPL clubs will have to vote on whether to re-admit the “newco” to the league, and other issues remain unanswered about membership of the Scottish Football Association.

“A lot of work is still to be done and I just don’t know know where it’s going to end up,” said Macmillan.

“But this is a real bodyblow without a question of a doubt.

“It’s a very complex situation, but my understanding now is that we need to go into a newco, which will in turn mean that they have to now talk very urgently to the footballing authorities, the SPL, presumably the SFA.

“And, they may have to get the backing of other SPL clubs if they apply to stay in the SPL.”

Several SPL club chairmen have commented on Rangers’ situation in recent months, with Dundee United’s Stephen Thompson suggesting that Rangers would find it difficult to get voted back in to the top flight.

Macmillan admits it will not be a straightforward choice for their SPL rivals.

“I think it’s questionable,” added Macmillan. “Because, to be fair to the chairmen of the SPL clubs, they’re under a lot of pressure – or some of them are – from their own fans, not to allow Rangers in to the SPL if this comes to be.

“They have to weigh that up against their lack of finance they will have if Rangers aren’t allowed in the SPL.

“It’s not going to be an easy decision, but I think – and I must say this in all honesty, and not because I’m a Rangers supporter – but if Rangers are not allowed in there, it’ll be a disaster for Scottish football in general financially.”

Despite the dark days facing the club, Macmillan conceded that its downfall was self-inflicted, but indicated that “certain individuals” were responsible for the problems which led to admnistration.

Macmillan continued: “The bottom line is that this has been brought about by certain individuals. There’s no point in naming names – it’s been brought on by themselves and it cannot be denied.

“That’s the unfortunate bit about it all. They have to pay for what they’ve done in the past, but whether it’s to be as severe as it’s going to be is open to question.

“The next few days will be crucial, depending on the decisions that happen. There’s always a possibility that it’s the end, but I hope it isn’t.”

Good afternoon to you mi amigo.

A hun free Glasgow, who would have ever thunk it, but the reality is them’s no more.

I only worry for what will rise from the sewer, more rabid, the need to seek vengance, and we could have a guess as to who they will blame.

But for now, we can enjoy this momentus day, I have a bottle of the good stuff awaiting me :>)))

Try the ibrox smoothie! Take 45,000 bitter oranges, an equal amount of sour grapes, for texture, add a bag of cold chips from a disgruntled shoulder, put in A blender, and LIQUIDATE, serve with jelly and ice cream or some sour plums. Delicious….:

    I’d just like to say

I was here posting on CQN the day Ragers died, for history’s sake :)

I have to admit Paul I did’nt 100% have the same faith you have shown throughout that their CVA would be rejected. Not that I doubted you just that that stinking lot thought they could get away with it.

Without the work of yourself, Phil MacGiollBhain & Rangerstaxcase to keep us informed of the truth and keep the pressure on the old media to confront the cheating & bias within our game I and others would not be celebrating today. For that I’m eternally grateful to you all.

Today is to be forever remembered in the annuls of football & societal history.

I know my dad will be up there smiling today too, thanks to your’s and others hard work :)

  16. Wont be long before some spl chairman suggests an “SPL” season ticket that lets you in to any spl game you want, with the money being divided equally among the spl teams.

No to newco and No to shared gate reciepts.

    Paul,

    Agree entirely with your dad.

Posted earlier that I never thought I would live to see this day and wish my own mum and dad were still around to share it.

Will be raising a glass to absent friends in about 25 minutes. And a dozen more besides.

And as a great man said once: This is just the start.

But watching their sins coming home to roost is for tomorrow. For today, I will be happy just to breathe clean air at long, long last.

  18. Momentous! I’m off out just to sing and dance in the streets! Everything else can wait for now. Time to savour the launch into the blender for the worst ‘club’ on the planet!

If it is an SPL entry that is attempted then can a Newco pass the UEFA FFP criteria to get an SFA Club license? (They cannot)

(it is the SFA who grant club licences )
