Being taken for a brainless clown

629

I like Alex Ferguson.  He likes his football and cannot hide the respect in which he holds Jock Stein and the great Celtic team of the 60s and 70s.  Like you and I, Alex is immersed in the history of the game here, a history he contributed significantly to at Aberdeen.

So, when questioned by the Daily Record on the potential shuttering of Hampden, his overwhelming reaction was for the loss of history:

“… leaving your history behind you

“You’re throwing away all that fantastic history

“history you are throwing away

“That’s a fantastic history

“history has been formed

“The history of Hampden is riddled with fantastic games

“We need history to tell us where we’re going”

No football fans are more immersed in history than Celtic fans, it sustained us through many a dark day, so these words will resonate with you.  But fear not, there is a solution!

They can raze Hamden to the ground and have another venue BUY THE HISTORY!  Why didn’t this occur to such a great mind?  Buying history is a fairly straightforward issue in Scotland.  I now own the Crimean War, which I purchased from a guy in Edinburgh last week.

The same vendor was selling the Renaissance, which I would love to own, as I would really like to have painted the Sistine Chapel in the 16th century, but he was wanting £1000 for that, and an internal voice told me I was being taken for a brainless clown.

A crowd of us saw the Redskins at Nightmoves on Sauchiehall Street in early 1985, A great gig .

Former Celtic player, Derek Riordan, had a passing resemblence to Redskins front man , Chris Dean.

Keep on Keeping on, 33 years later , is one of my all time favourites.

Where is Tontine Tim with that awesome memory when you need him?

*Was up at the pineapple, wall tae wall for both services, and then took the dug for a walk.

We have had more than a few games on Holy Saturday but one that sticks in my mind was a SC Semi against Airdrie, we had a pretty good run in the cup that year winning away at Brockville and Starks Park as well as an extra time replay victory at Easter Road where a young reserve player called John Clark snatched the winner.

So here we were in the semis, the team had been unchanged since the Hibbee game even though captain Bertie Peacock had passed a fitness test the week before but was left out of the side in a 2-1 victory over the Pars.

This was a pretty good Airdrie side with Scotland goalie Lawrie Leslie who would move to West Ham at the end of that season between the posts, in fact he was first choice for the infamous 9-3 game with 7 past niven his back up, both fortuitously failed fitness tests leaving big Frank to be crucified between 2 thieves (no pun intended on this the holiest day in the Christian calendar)

The Diamonds also had Jim Storey who later starred for Leeds and won promotion with them as well as playing at Wembley in the FA Cup final, and former Celt Jim (Snake Hips) Sharkey a Sacred Heart FP in their line up, rumour had it that he was dropped for the 1956 Cup Final after been spotted having a sherry or 3 with Charles Patrick. That night in the Bank Restaurant again a bit tipsy he told Bob that he would have played for Celtic for nothing but now he could tae stick his club up his erse.

However, that day we were magnificent and were 4 up before half time, the Bear in particular was unplayable with 2 goals and also another chalked off but the stars IMHO that day were the “Fighting Princes of Donegal” Paddy and Charlie, they sprayed the ball about meticulously, this was truly football “the Glasgow Celtic way”.

As I left Hampden that sunny afternoon with the promise of a Cup Final my da was in a really jubilant mood, it might have been the win or that Lent ended at 12 noon back then, lol.

We got dropped off on Argyll Street at Hope Street and he took me intae a shop under the Central Station Bridge and bought me a Celtic scarf. As we made our way to Waterloo Street bus station on passing the Record House he happily showed me a Noon Record posted in a box on the wall, loudly pointing out their tipster Garryowen, aye it definitely was the early ending of Lent that did it, especially the scarf which had been a no no for long enough..

Been a while since that’s been on the blog, fair play if genuine but pretty low if not, considering reading early comments Fairhill Bhoy can’t respond

I disagree pal. KT does not need to be protected. KT is one of the fittest, strongest athletes living in Scotland today. KT’s opponents need protected from KT’s inner core strength.

I predict Lewis Morgan will be a Superstar too.

  14. Delaneys Dunky,

    Yo Bro…….

I did put a smiley there.

Kieran is as hard as nails.

Quite rightly, this day and age, he stays down for the expected card.

Scotland is nastier though with the allowed attacks on Celts.

I go mad when Kieran is rocking and I shout “wee man” ….. ffs he is anything but.

    Ironman.

    CELTIC LEGEND already.

  15. GFTB , mate I can ASSURE YOU THAT WAS POSTED BEFORE READING BACK, no way. Would I do something as low as that , Now I have repeatedly apologised to you for being a Dick !! Delaney’s,

Kt doesn’t need protected? The boys the biggest Target after Neil Lennon in Scottish football.

I fear for him,,they all know how much it would hurt if he got done.

Most of them have nothing to play for an d the highlight of thier carreerr would be to maim him.

As for the refs, was it Murdoch Auld and Hay brought them up the other night?

Well one thing I would done is gather a panel of respected ex refs from out with the UK and made them analyse each and every game and grade the ref. Write a report on him.

Whether it gets published on the clubs website or I think we shoulda recruited a friendly journalist long ago but every week grade them and video shame their mistakes.

In Scotland they would stop it.

It would have to been somewhere else,,,,channel 4 ? This blog at the minimum.

    But highlight thier crap.

If there was a straight forward answer to all our problems some bright mind would have came up with it,,I think the only chance is death from a thousand cuts,,,we’ve gotta keep pressure everywhere and hope it’s enough.

Don’t pin your hopes on one avenue or you may be stymied.

    Almore enjoy your holiday mucker.
