Biton influence on central mid

768

It wasn’t just the result, which was enormously satisfying, but the manner of Celtic’s performance yesterday was equally gratifying.  We passed with speed and precision, creating space between what was often two blocks of five defenders.  Hearts were in a sorry state but despite enduring the consequences of being unable to pay their dues, they remain considerably more resourceful than many of the lower league teams which have caused Celtic problems in cup competitions in recent seasons.

We finally got to see what the fuss over Nir Biton was all about.  He brought control, time and space to the play.  In particular I liked the way he tried to retain possession.  Hope we see more of him in the weeks to come.

While most attention was drawn to the striker position following defeat to Milan last week, central midfield, bereft of recent departures, the injured and suspended, was just as under-resourced.  The opportunity is there for Biton to grab a place for himself, just as Victor did a couple of years ago.

    Hmmmmm……same device suspects a recent Deadclub captain of batting for the same side as Tom?

  9. I was reading earlier posts regarding bad refereeing, to me there is no contest ,the game against oldco in 1978 was THE worst I have ever seen .Denied a stonewall penalty then oldco taking a quick goal kick with players all over the box then racing upfield while we argue with ref. About 6 against one in our half for greig to score a tap in.I was going out with a girl from Drumoyne and went back to hers after the game to be met by her oldco uncles saying it was a fair result.End of relationshlp there and then.Dirty cheating bassas.

    *his grandfather was on our books as a back up tae Charlie Shaw, he only played 2 games for us, a 1-1 tie at kilmasonic and a week later he threw one intae the net against the deid team at CP, never played another game for us and was let go at the end of the season.

    Slyme’s da was also a referee of ill repute, after one horrendous display of refereeing as he walked off the park in seeing Big Jock walking towards him was a bit concerned at the reaction, the Big Mhan said “well done son” at that he relaxed until Jock said “Yer faither would have been proud of you”.

    I know its jumping the gun but should we be considering bhoycotting the semi final ?

    Sick as the thought might be if sevco won the cup, what happens to the euro place, will that go to the beaten finalists ?

    …………………………………………….

    The Rangers FC cannot play in Europe yet because they have not posted accounts for the last three years and have not been members of SFA or EUFA for three years.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Folks

    In the interests of accuracy.

    The three years applies ONLY to the length of membership of the SFA. If after 3 years they have at that time ONE set of accounts ratified at an AGM which do not breach other UEFA FFP rules e,g. break even or overdues payable, then they can play in Europe if they qualify on sporting merit (i.e. via league or cup).

    Now if they were to win the SC before then the following rules would apply. Its a long read but chances are the SFA would be bricking it as it would mean somebody coming clean and that does not necessarily mean they would be refused (although the turnover to wage bill ratio would most likely be used as an excuse by SFA not to go to UEFA after a huddle between both.)

    Although exiled for 3 years under Article 12, RIFC could apply under Article 15 which would give SFA and UEFA a problem as it would require UEFA to make a decision on whether Article 12 should be put aside and on the SFA to put the case to UEFA, because of the process that Article 15 sets in train, to make that decision.

    Art 12 in simplistic terms requires a club to have been members of a national association for three years before it can be granted a licence to play in a UEFA competition. It is the failure to meet this requirement that stops RIFCs being able to qualify on sporting merit grounds until 3 years after 3 August 2012 (or thereabouts). It is there to stop a club shedding its debt and carrying on as before and to protect the integrity of UEFA competition.

    However Article 15 opens the door to the unwanted dilemma. Should sporting merit take precedence over sporting integrity?

    The Art 15 rule is obviously designed to allow a club not in the top tier and so not subject to UEFA licensing standards, who have won a national trophy, to be granted a UEFA licence for that year.

    It does not envisage the sort of situation that Scottish football has risked creating where a club is removed from the top tier because it was liquidated, but allowed to return at a lower tier as if it were not.

    Article 15 of UEFA FFP 2012

    1 If a club qualifies for a UEFA club competition on sporting merit but has not undergone any licensing process at all or has undergone a licensing process which is lesser/not equivalent to the one applicable for top division clubs, because it belongs to a division other than the top division, the UEFA member association of the club concerned may – on behalf of such a club – request an extraordinary application of the club licensing system in accordance with Annex IV.

    2 Based on such an extraordinary application, UEFA may grant special permission to the club to enter the corresponding UEFA club competition subject to the relevant UEFA club competition regulations. Such an extraordinary application applies only to the specific club and for the season in question.

    Annex IV says

    ANNEX IV: Extraordinary application of the club licensing system

    1. The UEFA administration defines the necessary deadlines and the minimum criteria for the extraordinary application of the club licensing system as specified in Article 15(1) and communicates them to the UEFA member associations at the latest by 31 August of the year preceding the licence season.

    2. UEFA member associations must notify the UEFA administration of such extraordinary application requests in writing and stating the name of the club concerned by the deadline communicated by the UEFA administration.

    3. The UEFA member associations are responsible for submitting the criteria to the club concerned for the assessment for the extraordinary procedure at national level. They must also take immediate action with the club concerned to prepare for the extraordinary procedure.

    4. The club concerned must provide the necessary documentary proof to the licensor that will assess the club against the fixed minimum standards and forward the following documentation in one of the UEFA official languages to the UEFA administration by the deadline communicated by the latter:

    a) a written request to apply for special permission to enter the corresponding UEFA club competition;

    b) a recommendation by the licensor based on its assessment (including the dates and names of the persons having assessed the club);

    c) all documentary evidence provided by the club and the licensor as requested by the UEFA administration;

    d) any other documents requested by the UEFA administration during the extraordinary procedure.

    5. The UEFA administration bases its decision on the documentation received and grants special permission to enter the UEFA club competitions if all the set criteria are fulfilled and if the club ultimately qualifies on sporting merit. The decision will be communicated to the UEFA member association, which has to forward it to the club concerned.

    6. If such a club is eliminated on sporting merit during this extraordinary procedure, the UEFA member association concerned has to notify the UEFA administration immediately, and this procedure is immediately terminated, without further decision. Such a terminated procedure cannot be restarted at a later stage.

    7. Appeals can be lodged against decisions made by the UEFA administration in writing before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in accordance with the relevant provisions laid down in the UEFA Statutes.

    A European final and reaching the last sixteen of the Champions Lge in the last ten years as well as domestic trophies is a tremendous achievement for a club with the financial restrictions due to the League we play in. In addition just look at the quality of the teams we beat to get there in particular in the CL……… Inter Milan, Barcelona, Man.Utd. Benfica.

    Making the group stage this season was another plus despite the players we lost in transfers and we were in contention for a position in the group right up to last Tuesday night. Yes we were poor last Tuesday night but it was sobering to watch a team ranked second in the Bundesliga ship five goals against Man Utd on their homeground.

    Och Auldheid, you’ve gone and burst my bubble. Of course Article 15 will prevail and Celtic FC will say nothing. Let’s skelp Sevco or even better let someone else do it so we don’t have to play them one minute before it’s absolutely necessary to do so.

    Worst refereeing calls I remember live were Ba faced McLaren clotheslining Stuart Slater as last man and the MIB just turning away from it- and the game at CP where we scored and had 7 players off the park celebrating when they were allowed to kick off and run up the park only to miss despite having a full team on against 2-3 of ours
