Biton influence on central mid

768

It wasn’t just the result, which was enormously satisfying, but the manner of Celtic’s performance yesterday was equally gratifying.  We passed with speed and precision, creating space between what was often two blocks of five defenders.  Hearts were in a sorry state but despite enduring the consequences of being unable to pay their dues, they remain considerably more resourceful than many of the lower league teams which have caused Celtic problems in cup competitions in recent seasons.

We finally got to see what the fuss over Nir Biton was all about.  He brought control, time and space to the play.  In particular I liked the way he tried to retain possession.  Hope we see more of him in the weeks to come.

While most attention was drawn to the striker position following defeat to Milan last week, central midfield, bereft of recent departures, the injured and suspended, was just as under-resourced.  The opportunity is there for Biton to grab a place for himself, just as Victor did a couple of years ago.

Christmas book offer:

  1. A fiver for your thoughts @13.40 hrs.

Welcome to the madhouse. Smashing first post.

Thought Paul 67’s article was a fair summarisation of yesterday. I think Sammi and JF still have a major part to play. Horses for courses, but IMO a rapid move and pass game is not for Sammi.

I appreciate Hearts were poor but I felt our fitness level was a major contributory factor. This is something I have been harping about all season and hopefully it is now being addressed. We may not be able to match the skills of some European teams, but there is absolutely no excuse for not matching them fitness wise.

However as the euphoria is dying down I ask myself How can Kris Commons look much fitter than less than a week ago? Was it the level of opposition.?

Final point a Celtic team with Scott Brown is a far better team than without him.

Providing this was not a “Flash in the pan” I ask how is my Liver going to keep up ? Hopefully back to the good old days and bring on the “Sheep”.

    HH, Always in Celtic.

PS :I feel slightly guilty about the joy of yesterday knowing that the Clutha families are still suffering. Thoughts and prayers are with them.

  2. watch out CQN. The mid police coming to a blog near you soon? No more sonf debates :-(

James Brokenshire, the UK Crime and Security Minister, has announced his determination to save the United Kingdom from websites which aren’t “British” by censoring the web. Minister claimed the end of the free Internet in the United Kingdom by revealing his plans to order Internet service providers to block websites believed to be too dangerous for the people.

Minister explained he will also create a special department to identify and report material considered too dangerous for publication on the Internet. Brokenshire announced that the unit in question will be responsible for censoring a so-called “extremist content”, which perhaps follows the success off the model to crack on Internet child abuse. You have probably heard of the Internet Watch Foundation, partly industry-funded, which investigates reports of unauthorized child abuse pictures in the web. The outfit can ask ISPs to block or take down websites containing such images. As a result, there’s no child porn in the UK Internet now thanks to this measure.

Minister pointed out that Prime Minister, David Cameron, wanted to see a similar model for terrorist material. Despite numerous “freedom of speech issues”, the government believes it can have a process in place to test what is against the law.

In the meantime, ISPs’ good appeal process might overcome some of the public’s concerns. Apparently, if the government decides to block Welsh or Scottish Nationalist websites, it will have to explain to a judge why they are deemed “extremist”. This might make sense. However, less clear would be websites organizing such things as student protests.

I am sure they will speak out on their own Geordie lol,

I think it is a noble ambition.I grew up and developed my love of Celtic in a time when the jest was made at NOT being there or thereabouts was laughed at.We were that good. The ambition to be that good again is in our DNA.

I have not noticed any reports from the media

Totally agree. Thought Mik helped Nir settle into the game yesterday, and they seemed to be on the same wavelength. Big Mik is the best most consistent player in our team.

Sometimes it’s not even the goals that Celtic score in a match that stays the longest in my memory.

A few years ago at Easter Road, Celtic were cruising 4-0 (I think), playing great, dominating possession as the game ran into the final few minutes. We were giving it the Ole..Ole.. for every pass.

Suddenly, the PA system announced at maximum volume “…thanks for attending and today’s sponsored Man of the Match Award goes to ……….. Darren Jackson……. Well done, Dazza……”

Cue, instantaneous collapse into laughter from everyone in the ground, including the twenty two players and the referee.

Thereafter until the final whistle blew, DJ received a standing ovation from the Celtic fans every-time the ball went near him.

He took the embarrassment really well, but the daggers drawn looks he gave up to the main stand area were real as were.

  11. Usually on a Monday I’m content with lurking. The referee’s debate moves me to make my contribution,Whenever a supporter of the Norwegian Blues talks about ref decisions (they don’t–they get all the decisions) ask them where on YouTube you can find a compilation of instances where the ref decision went against them. That’ll shut them up.

Another gem is to ask how many ex-referees go round the talk circuit giving “comic” stories of their time in Scottish football. Ask them do they do a “comic” turn about Sevco.

Add the coup de grace–ask them where the deeds are.

just read some BEAR writing about scottish cup draw and did rangers supporters want to play CELTIC. .”THERE HAS BEEN POISON SINCE rangers WENT INTO ADMINISTRATION”.

last week they had a love in or was it a hate in at a hotel in glasgow.there again one of the speakers “club went into admin”.

is it official or was it LIQUIDATION.????????

  14. Steinreignedsupreme on

Good cup draw – Aberdeen will give us a stiffer test than Hearts, but if we show the same application as we did yesterday it should be enough to get us through.

Delighted we did not get paired with Scotland’s newest club. Fixtures against these lower league outfits are always a no-win situation for Celtic.

The media will be raging with the draw. They would have had almost two months to promote myths regarding the fixture. The past 24 hours has been bad enough with the tripe they have been churning out.

John Cairney was another neighbour of my Dad, although a couple of years younger. His older brother, Peter, I think, was a good player, according to my Dad. Went to Canada, I think. They all lived about 100 yards from Celtic Park and played in John Cairney’s wee street, because it was off London and Springfield Roads. Jimmy McCrory’s sister lived in the same close but in the flat above my Dad.

The worst, in my experience, was Davidson. He later became chairman of a now deid club – Airdrieonians – although a club masquerading under the same name are members of the SFA and play in the SPFL.

Still have memories of the 1970 SC final, where he excelled himself.

While chairman of Airdrieonians Danny McGrain was offered the manager’s job, not by Davidson but by the club’s main backers at the time, the Dalziel family.

He never got the job – the directors voted 5-4 not to offer him it. Davidson probably had the casting vote. Horrible bigot – and Danny was a proddy!

I conducted a quick pub poll on Saturday. I asked three mates (aged from 55 to 65) to name their worst and most anti Celtic referees seen in their lifetime. The general consensus was…

    1 RH Davidson, Airdrie

2 JPR Gordon, Newport on Tay

    3 Willie Syme
