Biton influence on central mid

768

It wasn’t just the result, which was enormously satisfying, but the manner of Celtic’s performance yesterday was equally gratifying.  We passed with speed and precision, creating space between what was often two blocks of five defenders.  Hearts were in a sorry state but despite enduring the consequences of being unable to pay their dues, they remain considerably more resourceful than many of the lower league teams which have caused Celtic problems in cup competitions in recent seasons.

We finally got to see what the fuss over Nir Biton was all about.  He brought control, time and space to the play.  In particular I liked the way he tried to retain possession.  Hope we see more of him in the weeks to come.

While most attention was drawn to the striker position following defeat to Milan last week, central midfield, bereft of recent departures, the injured and suspended, was just as under-resourced.  The opportunity is there for Biton to grab a place for himself, just as Victor did a couple of years ago.

NEIL Lennon today laid a wreath on behalf of Celtic near the scene of Friday night´s tragic accident at the Clutha pub in Glasgow.

The message read: ´They never die who live in the hearts of those they leave behind´, also stating that the thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic are with the families of the bereaved at this desperately sad time.

Nine people died when a helicopter crashed through the roof of the pub on Friday night.

I’m sure the seemingly never ending three cup shuffle of the tribute act assets coordinated by the Spivs and Asset Strippers willing to trawl the depths of sectarianism to generate income which they tunnel into other enterprises prior to their thanks, good luck and hasty retreat speech will have reached a conclusion long before the semi-final.

Probably one of the worst decisions ever was in a cup tie against Aberdeen on St Patrick’s day 1973 at Celtic Park when Referee R H Davidson sent off Jimmy Johnstone for something he hadn’t even seen but was alerted to by his Orange brother, Cowdenbeath’s Jim Renton.

    http://www.thecelticwiki.com/page/1973-03-17%3A+Celtic+0-0+Aberdeen%2C+Scottish+Cup

Look at the match pictures link on this page and see how angry the wee man was at this injustice which was later rescinded.

Renton was a good partner for Davidson. Just look at the smug look on his face knowing he got Jimmy sent off for nothing……….all to no avail as it happens.

  17. Scottish cup draw – I always tended to give them the benefit of the doubt, but that’s a perfectly executed fix in favour of the Zombie hordes.

Celtic, Aberdeen and Dundee United were the teams they feared; two drawn against each other and the remaining club up against another SPL side.

Zombies cleared for advancing to last 8 against one of two patsy sides from their own level they know they can take care of and who will bend over and take it at Mordor with a smile.

Quarter Finals, they’re sizing up Alloa, Dumbarton, Albion or Stenny. Fix is on, playing the long game all the way to a money-spinning semi.

Nobody win out of us/the sheep facing off at this stage except the Forces Of Darkness.

    Hunbelievable.

  18. Jim Renton from Cowdenbeath.

Bragged how he never officiated a Celtic match as a ref , that Celtic had won.

I don’t know if what he claimed was true, but I did hear him Bragg about it with my own ears.

  20. I’m sure R.H. Davidson.refereed a game against Celtic on St Patrick’s day in 1961-2 season.

A couple of young women went round all the players on the park and pinned a piece of shamrock to their shirts. when they got to Davidson he refused point blank to have shamrock pinned to his shirt.

Celtic were beaten that day 1-0.

No wonder RH Davidson was appointed an honorary Chairman of that club.

(Bobby Davidson later became a director and honorary chairman of Airdrieonians and served on the Scottish league management committee.)

Sevilla, Racing Santander and a major

broadcaster $20 million for a ”serious”

    violation of television rights sales.

The hefty penalties were given to Mediapro

and the four clubs for agreeing to four-year

contracts on TV rights when only three years

    is allowed.

Mediapro must pay $8.8 million, while Real

Madrid was fined $5.3 million, Barcelona $4.9

million, Sevilla $1.2 million and Santander

    $40,000.

Mediapro, which shares the rights to Spanish

league matches with Canal Plus, says it will

    appeal the ruling.

In Spain, individual clubs reach TV rights

Wish I knew, obviously. Wish I didn’t get the creeping hunch of mendacity at work.

Perhaps it’s just that vindication of our years of ‘paranoia’, the superior dismissal of justifiable suspicion, which makes me look at that draw and the future possibilities and see it manufactured around the only side who it really benefits.

Because no matter how honest it all seemed, analysis of the result, surprise, surprise, shows THE major benefit to…Who? Oh, that’s right…
