Breakdown on taxpayers £75m hit

835

I think some people have been reading too much into mentions of Rangers owing HMRC up to £75m.  For clarity, the big tax case, with penalties and interest, could reach approximately £50m, but that is not the end of the story.

There is the wee tax case, the potential VAT liability relating to the income from Ticketus and VAT due each quarter.  Then there is Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and National Insurance (NI).  With the lack of financial information from Rangers barring this “£75m” statement, it’s possible VAT, PAYE and NI are delinquent.

Add this lot up and you can easily see why the taxpayer could be looking at a £75m hit, Rangers did not link this figure with the big tax case alone.  I’ll leave it up to Craig Whyte’s next interviewers to ask how much of this figure has been incurred under his stewardship.

And remember, we’re only talking about HMRC debt here, don’t forget about the police, Glasgow City Council, utility suppliers and a multitude of small local businesses.

We don’t need no stinkin’ Rangers.

  5. You know if only everyone read CQN. Then today’s events would have been no shock and the intracacies of the situation would be clear.

Whyte now thinks he has a negotiating position with HMRC – agree to take some money or I will bust the club. Wonder if they’ve ever heard that one before?

I can’t see a deal being struck and therefore a CVA is a non starter. Liquidation comes next, Whyte takes his money and runs and we see who will be running the Newco.

    Great fun, isn’t it?

  6. Am I alone in finding Shona Robison’s observations absolutely incredible.

A senior political figure (in the knigdom of Salmondit does not take much to be senior ! ) to support an organisation blatantly seeking to ‘evade’ payment of income tax with no consideration for the impact of that potential fraud…..

In any other democracy such outrageous suggestion from an empowered government spokeperson would be followed by an enforced cllamour for resigntaion from that individual….

Not in our bitter wee pathetic country…..

If anyone still thinks voting SNP and voting independence is a credible option for our future then hopefully they will think again after this.

  11. Debunking these outrageous myths is a mjaor priority for ALL supporters of other clubs not just Celtic over the next few days….I have not met a single supporter of any other club who thinks Rangers should be given the golden ticket back into the top tier.

This body of opnion has to be given amplification or clowns like robison will believe the media agenda that the majority do ant rangers to continue.

  14. Re: Shona Robison’s comments.

The SNP below Salmond are a rum bunch. Not much talent there. Sounds to me that she responded to a question with a pat reply, only forgetting the bit about companies needing to pay their taxes (so-called leftist parties like the SNP tend to be keen on the pay your taxes bit).

I wouldn’t read too much into it. She has no power over HMRC anyway (nor should she), and Salmond is far too astute to become embroiled in a dispute between HMRC and a thoroughly dodgy character like Whyte.

The SNP might put a bit of pressure on the SFA re: NewCo, but I’d doubt very much they are about to go into battle for – of all clubs! – RFC.

Yes it is that kind of irresponsible behaviour which any kind of have credible opposition to the SNP could nail them with……..

Sadly the pathetic range of opposition talent in our expensive ‘waste of space parliament’ is unlikely to even see such a ‘gift horse’ never mind seek to jump on it’s back and ride it hard…..

A joke even more expensive than the rangers tax non payment.

  23. “This cannot be allowed to happen.”

What should be getting stated is that” this should not have been allowed to happen”.

Rangers have been allowed to continue spending money they did not have and winning trophies by spending money that should have went to the taxman.

Thay have been able to do so through repeated accounts which showed incredible real estate values on the balance sheet.

The Directors of Rangers and Rangers Accountants should be asked to explain why this was allowed to happen.
