Brendan and Ronny. Even what looks like a lucky gamble isn’t

670

The absence of Jozo Simunovic for our Champions League game in Monchengladbach set off alarm bells, but few of us expected that he was rested as a consequence of being on a one-game-per-week long-term recuperation strategy.

This was a bold decision by what is clearly a confident manager. It was also informative that Brendan Rodgers prioritised the league game against Aberdeen to deploy Jozo over the Champions League – an equally bold decision. Defensive performances in both games suggest the manager made the right call.

This is the kind of gamble that is going Brendan Rodgers’ way but which would have backfired on Ronny Deila. It’s not down to luck, of course. Brendan has proven the point that defences are systems more than anything else. Get the system right and you can move the players around. Get it wrong, as we did in Barcelona, and it doesn’t matter which or how many defenders you deploy, you’ll take a hiding.

After surviving an onslaught at home to Celtic in September, Inverness scored an added-time equaliser to deny Celtic their only league points of the season. Since then our domestic form has been even better than it was before that game, winning everything for the loss of only a single goal in seven outings.

One thing we know about Inverness-Celtic games, though, is that lightening doesn’t only strike once, or twice for that matter. This team have punished Celtic repeatedly over the last 16 years, usually against the odds. Their only defeat since an abysmal August came against Newco, who denied the Highlanders their own onslaught. That was also the only game Inverness failed to score since Same Old Alloa dumped them out of the League Cup in August.

After tomorrow’s visit of Inverness, Celtic’s only home game in the next six is against Barcelona. If Brendan was to cast his eye over the fixture list for opportunities to experiment, this is as good an opportunity as he’ll have until Accies visit on 13 December.

Maybe an opportunity to go one at the back and five up front.  Or just to give Patrick a start.  Either works for me.

Young fella from Aus on my mother’s side turned up and is staying for a few months. Typical kid, knows how to get the most out of travel and get a bargain. Having said that, he’s getting his week in Spain for hee haw cos yours truly sorted out the flights. I should have got him to do it:_)

Not a problem as my boy is talking about Auz and NZ next summer and will be well looked out for by the Auz branch of the acgr extended family.

He was in Barca for the away game, his first Celtic match, whit a shame. He was at the manC game too so that was a bonus and I hope the wee bro Pedrocaravanman67 has a ticket for him for the game on the 23rd.

Right I’m away for a dram and DD stylee cigarette. Time to read up on the big chap, the temple of babel, abortion law and the book of revelations. Its a wee while since I understood Pete’s posts. If the world is indeed going to end I’m doing my whisky stash, my weed and getting my hole at least twice. Hopefully it wont happen before the end of the season but it’s best to plan ahead.

  13. Resolution 12: Where it currently stands.

This is a repost from yesterday with revised links to 8th June letter and The Activity Account.

There seems to be some idea that nothing more can be done about Res12 and that Celtic will simply say nothing at the forthcoming AGM.

It is timely therefore to remind folk who have funded the exercise since the AGM 2013 what that adjournment at the 2013 AGM meant and why if Celtic were to say nothing at the forthcoming AGM, that would be a betrayal of what we (and so the shareholders we represented) were led to understand when the adjournment (not abandonment) was accepted, along with what an adjournment meant in AGM terms.

There was some debate on CQN at the time in 2013 that might still be retrievable, but Video Celts copied the essential aspects of it which can be read at the following link for what was said in 2013 in lead up to the AGM . It contains information from BRTH from CQN who was involved in the adjournment discussions and confirms what was said to two other requistitioners on Skype by way of explanation at the time, plus a reliable witness.

    http://videocelts.com/2013/11/blogs/latest-news/celtic-take-shareholders-licence-concerns-straight-to-sfa/

Our understanding from the above, then and now is that Res12 (AGM 2013) is still on the table and that it should either be passed or voted against at the forthcoming AGM given that the exercise the adjournment allowed to take place has ended because the shareholder’s representatives have taken it as far as we can. However, that exercise has been revealing.

Celtic’s position at the 2013 AGM was that Res12 was unnecessary. The information provided by UEFA on 8th June 2016 about the new club (which is of interest to many so fill yer boots)

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6uWzxhblAt9ckdxNTU4bFIyNFU/view

contained much more relevant (in Res 12 terms) information about dates that suggests that the information given to Celtic in 2011 and later by the SFA, which led Celtic to conclude Res12 was “unnecessary” was less than candid and certainly subsequent utterances in public by Regan have been misleading.

This excludes the famous leaked 7th December 2011 e mail from Regan to RFC which explains the basis on which the SFA wanted to justify in public the granting of the UEFA licence in spring 2011. This justification (that the liability was potential at 31st March) if it is the basis on which the grant was allowed, is highly questionable and possibly involves fraud.

Consequently, Res12 is anything but over until Celtic say so, both in AGM process terms and until it can be shown without doubt the licence was granted as UEFA intended and the statements made that allowed the granting in March 2011 were true as much as the statements made afterwards by the SFA to explain the granting.

Over 100 signatories to Res12 have been given an Account of Activity on their behalf including correspondence with the SFA and UEFA as well as the Conclusions arising from the correspondence and an interesting similar case involving a Greek club whose use of private agreements as well as having an overdue payable saw a licence refused.

That Activity Account itself with links to all the correspondence can now be read at

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6uWzxhblAt9bnFxLXZYRi1pems/view

There is a lot to absorb so The Conclusions can wait a few more days before publishing to allow Celtic, who have a copy of both Timeline and Conclusions, to consider their position in terms of addressing Res12 (2013) at the forthcoming AGM in order to meet their responsibility to shareholders.

No meaning should be read into the absence of any response from the SLO, whom signatories who received the paperwork last week were advised to e mail, John Paul Taylor is only the public mail box in this case so do not expect a response from him.

To repeat: Any response must come within the AGM framework. That was the point of using the AGM route in the first place, to make the point to the SFA that one way or another they will be held accountable.

Lets hope Celtic will reinforce this point at the AGM and afterwards, why wouldn’t they?

Andrea Traverso’s confirmation that they are a new club in the eyes of UEFA is a wonderful by-product of your and your fellow resolutioners’ great efforts in this matter.
