Brown and Lustig with international and Champions League conflicts

848

A year ago you and I discussed Scott Brown’s fitness with some concern for the season ahead. Since then the captain has not skipped a beat, his form and availability for selection have been without question.

It is clear he can cope with a Scotland game this weekend, and no doubt finish the season untroubled, but Scotland have an international against England on 10 June, two weeks after the Scottish Cup final, and four weeks before Celtic’s Champions League qualification campaign gets underway.

If Scott is to participate in all games, he will have a week off after the Scottish Cup final before being called into the Scotland squad, then two weeks before Celtic’s preseason training starts. For a player of his age, with his injury profile, this schedule would not allow sufficient recuperation ahead of a new season.

Selfishly, the most important thing to you and I, and to Celtic, is Champions League qualification, more so than the Scottish Cup, or than a season of invincibility, delightful, though both would be. What Brendan Rodgers backroom team need to do is prepare Scott as thoroughly as possible for the middle of July. Planning should start now.

If there’s another player in the Celtic squad who I would also like to ration his football it’s Mikael Lustig. The Sweden international is likely to be involved in both their international squad in June; a World Cup qualifier against France and a derby against Norway.

If Scotland fail to get a positive result against Slovenia on Sunday, Scott might consider it best to retire from the international stage, again. He and Mikael could do with a few weeks on the beach at the end of the season.

  1. You would have thought that the suits at the sfa would be desperate to dine out at a major championship, a world cup or a euro championship, it seems not else they would be allowing the flair footballers to flourish in scotland, they would have instructed the referees to allow the footballers to play football and clamp down on the industrial stuff, but also no, their in-bread sectarian supremacist DNA takes over and it’s all about the huns and the hun like clogging football.

    Hell mend them.

  2. onenightinlisbon on

    So they are £100 each?

Is it simply a case of multiplying the number on my share certificate with this value?

Sorry for being thick, not my strong point finance!

    Tobago …

long day already … up at the airport early to take the doc to the airport, and then meeting a client this morning to prepare for a trial this week …. so, it is lunch time, and I have already had a full day ….

so I am finishing up work for the day …. and jumped on CQN, and saw your note.

Like you, I will be going to a few games this year … will just grab tickets if and when it works. But it would be great, if we could meet up for dinner/ a drink before one of the games. Always nice to meet a fellow CQN’er, particularly one with such good musical taste! Dinner, shooting the shit about Celtic and jazz… sounds like a great evening. :)

Love!!! Lee Morgan! His solo stuff, plus the stuff with the Messengers is spectacular. Love Chet, and pre =BB Miles … Sadly, I dont think that anyone will ever be including me in the list of great trumpet players … I spent 1/2 hour on Thursday playing twinkle twinkle little star…. I was/am awful… but I love it!

My instructor has me listening to Clifford Brown…. says he has the best tone ever. But, I’m not feeling it as much.

I have developed a real love for Wynton Marsalis and Terrence Blanchard the young fogie stuff…I used to think WM was too technical..I .didn’t feel the love in his music… but when I heard him live, I realized that I could not have been more wrong! He loves jazz, and wants everyone to love it …. he was just so gracious, anyone that saw him would come away a fan. Conversely, I saw his brother (whose music i tended to like more) in a small club, and he was just such an obnoxious jerk, it really put me off him.

Cheers, mate. hopefully, we will catch up at a game…. or maybe even the jazz festival. Gregory Porter tickets are on sale already. Worth seeing if you haven’t seen him already.

So 100 ordinary shares are worth £100.17.

    10000 shares are worth £10017.00

I been looking at that myself. It seems to go down during the transfer season when we purchase players then increase with income (Champions League windfall)

  13. AuroraBorealis79 on

Ignore previous comment as that is not the case. I was looking at share trading.

Delighted Jermaine Defoe scored, touching wee story about his mascot today, wee Sunderland fan who is terminally ill, looked like the wee boy & Defoe have a great bond…….

Puts the old football into perspective

    ——————

Totally agree, I have been following the story avidly on the Facing Book. There is obviously another side to Jermaine rather than the stereotype rich, womanising Bawbag we had taken him for.

Still I don’t think that will reasonate with a workmate from Newcastle whose close relative left her hubby for him.

    HH.

PS : Kudos for Everton too on this story.

  15. Good evening friends.

I see that there are 6 (six) Celts in tonight’s starting line up, plus ex Celt Charlie Mulgrew. Even more excited than I was before!

I could be wrong, says he wryly, but I think the Blazers still get their jolly, whether the team qualifies for Finals or not.

    Rumoured Scotland 11 tonight

    Gordon

    Tierney

    Martin

    Mulgrew

    Robertson

    Fletcher

    Brown

    Snodgrass

    Armstrong

    Forrest

    Griffiths

I make that 6 current Celtic players, 1 former Celtic player, 1 Celtic youth product, 2 Celtic fans and Russell Martin.

If it is correct, has there ever been a more Celtic biased Scotland side ever?

  19. Thom

Well that explains it then :-)

No need to let the footballers flourish, it all comes down to the huns at the end of the day, should have known.

Kudos to Etims and Neil Cameron.

    It makes perfect sense.

Celtic would demolish most of those international outfits.

Not going to make any predictions, however I’m gonna have a wee bet now.

    Good luck Ecosse.

  21. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

In the world cup qualifier against Czecheslovaka in 1973 at Hampden, I think we had four possibly five starting in that game , Ally Hunter, Danny McGrain Kenny , Daviev Hay and possiby Gerorge Connelly
