CAS drives horse and cart through FFP efforts

230

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) found against Uefa and in favour of Manchester City in their Financial Fair Play (FFP) case, head last month. CAS found that Manchester City broke FFP rules by failing to cooperate with Uefa and were fined 10m euro, with no ban from European competitions.

Manchester City successfully argued that the more serious charged against them occurred either more than five years ago, and were therefore time-barred, or were not conclusively established.

This is a serious blow for Uefa who must now consider how robust their FFP regulations are when a case of this magnitude can be set aside by CAS.  If the Association does not have the tools to enforce FFP rules within a five-year period, wither the rules need to go or monitoring tools need to be significantly enhanced.  Otherwise, clubs who follow the rules. like Celtic, are competitively penalised.

Get rid of any notions of corruption behind this decision.  It went against Uefa, they did not fold, the three arbiters at CAS were not bribed either.  This is purely about how difficult it is to prosecute complex cases.  These rules are relatively new and have never before been tested like this.  Time to redouble efforts.

Happy Birthday, Oldtim, 81 today!  Dave was a young 65 when he chose the name ‘Oldtim’, which as we are all getting older now seems quite funny.

When I met you, I recognised you but assumed it was from Celtic games as you were an Eastender. It would have been Jarvies and Albion club I knew your face from. Two of my haunts in the 80s. 👍

Was the pub called “the castle vaults?”

It was one of the first city centre pubs I was in when under age😄

  3. Surely the gayest of gays could make an exception for Raquel! I seen her on the TV a few years ago and she was still looking great. Loved Fantastic Voyage, when it first came out.

Actually, I remember an article about Tommy Gemmel that described him as gay. Of course, the meaning has changed somewhat since then :)

Still nothing on virtual season book holders being able to view the friendlies for free this week?

  4. Belated happy birthday to Old Tim, a top man. I look forward to seeing you soon at another hoot.

    ……………

Spot On ! It was called the Castle Vaults…well done young man.

I was 15 and had just started my first job so it would be around January/February 1971, that I made my first trip into a Pub.

That first night, I can remember dropping a full pint of Lager after having Two Pints and being drunk…after dropping that 3rd Pint which smashed onto the floor…the Bar Staff STILL served me more drink as I remember having around Six Pints that night and being being sick in the back of the Bus going home to my cousins. I went into the Castle Vaults maybe about 4 or 5 times.

it wasnt funny when my Auntie tried to wake me up the next morning for Mass…as I had my very first hangover !

FFS Lawwell we’ve still not signed anyone yet… get the finger out

  10. Is this Friday the 17th …The “Glasgow Fair Friday” ?…We all loved the “Glasgow Fair when I was younger as it usually meant summer holidays or at the very least a Long Weened off from work as we would finish work early on the Friday and then be off work until Tuesday..plenty of drinking and disco times.

As things stand right now, would I be allowed to travel by train to Blackpool for a weeks holiday…and then back to Glasgow ?

I am not thinking of booking a Hotel right now, as I would wait another 2/3 weeks before booking a Train and Hotel, to see how things “Pan Out” with lockdown rules and hoping that there are no more local spikes with the Virus etc ?

Do check you have correct opening times as it has only the odd pigeon about when I pass morn and night. enjoy the Craig bhoys.

  13. See if we don’t spend squillions on a new keeper( must be a great shot stopper ,comes for crosses and can pass like Bobby Murdoch) , fullback( must tackle back ,get forward ,cross perfect balls and get the odd goal),centre half (must be a bobo like stopper ,score goals like

big Billy with the control of beckenauer ) and a world class goalscorer (must score every game or else he’s a diddy) this transfer window will be a failure 😜

  14. I have a dictionary from the 50’s. Meaning of ‘gay’ is happy, jovial, etc. No mention of homosexuality.

I think a euphamism for being homosexual was ‘confirmed bachelor’.

  15. DAVID66 and BIGRAILROADBLUES….

I have phoned The Howgait and I have booked a table from 4pm til 6pm…Inside the Pub.

I have told the Pub that there will be Three possibly Four of us… if anyone else wishes to meet up with DAVID66, BIGRAILROADBLUES and myself ?

We will be there from 2pm maybe Outside to start with ?

I remember that Raquel Welch film when they all got miniaturised and shot through the vessels in somebody’s body.

I also remember laughing for days about a crack by Jim Blair, the Evening Times TV Reviewer, who was describing an entertaiment special show that showcased Racquel Welch as a singer. She did not sound too bad because of the multi-tracked voices which surrrounded each song she performed, leading Jim Blair to remark about Racquel- “As a singer, what a pair of voices she has!”

    ……………

Very good mate….Did that Jim Blair have a beard and a thin face…I seem to remember his photo in the papers ?

Yes, Raquel could probably have done a “DUET” on her own !

    ………….

    As for “Gay” ?

I have watched an old black and white British film from the 1954 a couple of time called “The Gay Dog”.

Petula Clark, Wilfred Pickles…and Peter Butterworth ( a funny man from the Carry On films), and Jon Pertwee of Dr Who fame etc.

The family are called “Gay” with Petula Clark playing the daughter Sally Gay. Its about their family Greyhound and its races and the family and neighbours betting on it etc. Its not the worst film that I have seen.
