CCV IN NEW INJURY SCARE

CAMERON CARTER-VICKERS is at the centre of an injury scare which could scupper Gustaf Lagerbielke’s proposed loan move to Lecce.

Brendan Rodgers is unlikely to sanction the Swedish international’s switch to the Serie A club if his USA World Cup centre-back is in line to miss more games.

Carter-Vickers, who signed a five-and-a-half year deal last week, sat out seven successive matches earlier in the season after limping off with a muscular problem at half-time of the 3-1 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie in August.

The rock-solid defender was forced to go off shortly after the interval in the 3-0 victory over Dundee at Dens Park on Boxing Day and was sidelined for the 2-1 derby triumph at Parkhead four days later.

DOWN AND OUT…crestfallen Cameron Carter-Vickers sits this one out before leaving the field in last month’s 3-0 win over Dundee at Dens Park.

The £6million recruit from Spurs in the summer of 2022 after his initial impressive temporary deal was also missing from the line-up that beat St Mirren 3-0 in Paisley two days in 2024 and he was a no-show in the 5-0 Scottish Cup romp against Buckie Thistle in the first outing following the winter break.

CCV made his comeback in the 1-0 victory over Ross County at the weekend, but was replaced in the 64th minute by Maik Nawrocki.

It is hoped the hamstring problem will not be a recurring theme, but the 26-year-old pivot is doubtful for the trip to face Barry Robson’s Dons in the north east on Saturday, according to the Scottish Sun.

Nawrocki, bought for £4.3million from Legia Warsaw in July, is standing by to deputise again while Rodgers also has Stephen Welsh fit after his recent shoulder injury.

However, unless there is a dramatic improvement in CCV’s condition, it looks as though Lagerbielke’s move to Italy may be in jeopardy.
