Celtic’s January 2012 transfer window

916

Michael Lustig arrived early on a pre-contract from Rosenborg.  A right back as tall as the North Stand he is one of the most curious signings we’ve made in a while, considering the strength we have in that position.

Rabiu Ibrahim, past-wonder-kid of African football, came in after negotiating an end to an unproductive stay in Eindhoven.  I hear lots about Ibrahim’s ability but Celtic will have to find a way of turning that into a productive force in the SPL, something PSV were unable to do in the Netherlands.

Polish international striker, Pawel Brozek, arrived on load from Trabzonspor, where he spent most of last year at the side of the pitch.  Pawel is an experienced pro who is likely to enjoy his time in the SPL.  He’ll keep the front pairing of Abbot and Costello on their toes, neither of whom will be certain of retaining their place.

Young players, Paul Slane, James Keatings and Lewis Toshney went out on loan to MK Dons, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock respectively, which Josh Thompson continued his tour of English towns and cities by heading to Chesterfield for 6 months.  None were likely to make more than cameo appearances this season, all will benefit from the career development opportunity.

Throughout the month I ignored stories that we would sell our prime first-team assets, Hooper, Stokes, Samaras, Forrest, Commons, Ki, McCourt and Matthews were all linked with clubs in England and offers were received for six of the above, but who in their right mind would sell top players in January when you are in a nip –and-tuck race for the title?

  1. The STV website is telling me that “Joe Ledley stays focused on Scottish Cup clash” but I happen to know from his Twitter that he focussed on clubbing last night and will be focussed on watching Barca this evening. Which is perfectly understandable.

Graham Hunter is A Hibby who lives and works freelance in Spain. He is no Rangers sympathiser. He is married to a Catholic whose father was a Heidie. My brother-in-law knows him and is a close mate of the said heidie’s other son-in-law.

  3. Graham Hunter was an Aberdeen fan when in Scotland. Very knowledgable guy, very complimentary about Celtic’s behaviour in Barcelona, and not so if Rangers. Straight batter, well connected in his adopted Barcelona, worth listening to.

  4. Sorry if it has already been posted but for all you guys trying to calculate Rangers’ total indebtedness, here’s a potential addition of £7.7M:

As The Daily Telegraph exclusively revealed on Jan 20, Rangers will also be legally bound to refund £7.7 million to debenture holders – who pledged that money to fund the building of the Club Deck in 1991 – should the club be placed in administration

    Better and better…..

in fairness to Lux, if they were to win all of their remaining matches they would win, for one more OF match remains if

  9. Starry. If they win their games then they win the league. Simples mate. They will beat us twice.

  10. I often wonder why no one asked about the rejected £7 and £9 million offers for Jelavic when the £5.5 million was accepted? Could it be Duffield and Whyte’s strategy of making stuff up to gain interest spectacularly backfired…

I was told at the start of the window they would accept £6 million, what I mean is they needed £6 million up front, not £3.?? that WHU offered. They got £5.5 million in the end, not far off £6 million.

Just interesting nobody asked about the rejected higher offers.

  13. Blantyre. Not meaning I think they will do it Although three years ago they beat us and our seven Point lead due to our arrogance in part. Or we would be going for seven in a row now.

It was a good discription of them or at least some of them. The “under-class” – but lets not forget their “middle-class” fans who use their proffessional positions to do as much damage to Celtic as they possibly can. These middle-class educated h**’s are everywhere, the media of course, the police , the football establishment.

One of the assults on Neil Lennon was carried out by 2 law students.

  15. Oooops my mistake; in my defence I just don’t live in fear of the huns winning the league…and anyone who thinks that the huns on their current form will win all their league games has not been following the league so far..

Plus if you fear of rangers winning the league is more than your Love for Celtic then respectfully does something else with your spare time..
