Celtic’s January 2012 transfer window

916

Michael Lustig arrived early on a pre-contract from Rosenborg.  A right back as tall as the North Stand he is one of the most curious signings we’ve made in a while, considering the strength we have in that position.

Rabiu Ibrahim, past-wonder-kid of African football, came in after negotiating an end to an unproductive stay in Eindhoven.  I hear lots about Ibrahim’s ability but Celtic will have to find a way of turning that into a productive force in the SPL, something PSV were unable to do in the Netherlands.

Polish international striker, Pawel Brozek, arrived on load from Trabzonspor, where he spent most of last year at the side of the pitch.  Pawel is an experienced pro who is likely to enjoy his time in the SPL.  He’ll keep the front pairing of Abbot and Costello on their toes, neither of whom will be certain of retaining their place.

Young players, Paul Slane, James Keatings and Lewis Toshney went out on loan to MK Dons, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock respectively, which Josh Thompson continued his tour of English towns and cities by heading to Chesterfield for 6 months.  None were likely to make more than cameo appearances this season, all will benefit from the career development opportunity.

Throughout the month I ignored stories that we would sell our prime first-team assets, Hooper, Stokes, Samaras, Forrest, Commons, Ki, McCourt and Matthews were all linked with clubs in England and offers were received for six of the above, but who in their right mind would sell top players in January when you are in a nip –and-tuck race for the title?

What would the issues be with (if worst case scenario actually happens) with us, the fans buying rangers. With shares limited to one person so that everyone has an equal say in how the club is run. With elections and maybe poling on issues such as ticket prices etc. This way we would be in control ourselves and not dependant on anyone. We could make all the important decisions ourselves.

    Oh dear.

Rangers will enter administration within 4 weeks as credit extensions have dried up (hence no new signings)….club are in serious trouble and Rangers FC as we know it will not exist by end of season….new club, with new name and NO HONOURS (those stay with the current club) will start next season, from Div 3 (unless they start in Englands lower tier and work up).

Cheers for the info, didn’t know that. Thought I heard rangers sold off their hospitality as well as match day catering but not sure

Yeah, its sound business from Ticketus provided they can guarantee payment. Presumably they have to charge a high premium incase they don’t recover all the money which could be likely in this case.

I know this exists based on the MG05 form submitted to Companies House but there is no record at Companies House with Rangers PLC or Rangers Group (formerly Wavetower) detailing the exact details of this transaction so we can only make assumptions on what is involved.

I don’t think its a floating charge type of scenario as a record of this charge would have to have been lodged with Companies House and it hasn’t (unless from one of Whyte’s different companies) and with an invoice sent, it seems to be a different type of arrangement.

Ticketus wouldn’t have provided this funding without some sort of security, one would have thought but the detail will be in the contract which probably won’t come to light unless leaked or if Rangers default and Ticketus are foreced to take them to court.

As for the number of season ticket holders, I wouldn’t have thought it was any more than 30,000 full paying season ticket holders but they will have to find the money somewhere to pay it.

Last Night I listened to the Radio Snyde phone in. It was remarkable (so many callers were “gutted” that I thought I had tuned into an angling show)

I thought a lorry had shed its load over of wee shiny metallic thingys, right outside my hoose, but here, it was the collective sound of pennys dropping all over Glasgow and Norn iron

Darryl was acting as if he was some sort of defender of truth and justice with the story, even though he may in reality have been the last guy in Glasgow to know the truth

Darryl broadfoot squirmed his way through when asked Why didn’t the press highlight this problem earlier, responding along the lines of – he had already asked Craig Whyte but old Whytey told him it wasn’t true, so he just left it, since he couldn’t call him a liar could he? Sounds a bit like someone Ol’ Whytey was a billionaire. But we don’t know who and printed it anyway.

He followed that up with well you see ahm a sports journo and don’t know anything about business. It did sound partially true, he was a sports journalist who didn’t know anything. Full stop.

It was a great show and I don’t understand why it gets criticised, I listened and loved every minute, even one or two tim callers managed to break through the great wailing wall of hun callers to wind them up, I particularly liked the caller who was suggested Celtic should buy rangers as a feeder team and also use Ibroke as a training pitch since lennoxtown wasn’t so good nowadays

Astonishingly, there are still huns out there who don’t believe that they are on the verge of Admin or Bankruptcy. What do you need to do to convince some people? Hopeless cases indeed. It looks like Daryl Himself didn’t undertand the seriousness until a caller told him a few days ago the tax money must be paid on demand. Very Lazy journalism indeed and unexcusable. Tim callers (if there are any) should put pressure on the journos

Darryl of course aimed one or two snidey shots at bloggers. apparently bloggers didn’t know the true state of RFC problems, but since they were not reportable to anyone they just took a punt, a shot in the dark, if you like and came up trumps.

RTC.com tweeted with “we get too much right too often to be that lucky

Darryl, whose voice was wobbling by this time commented that we wouldn’t like to get things wrong eh not like phil, and anyway didn’t spend all his time on the internet – I wonder how he knew who phil was then? Hmmmm.

All in all an enjoyable way to listen to our rivals implosion gain momentum

Ah canny wait for the Sunday mail hearse and the lead mourner, and if the Sunday mail canny bring themselves to do it, then we should.

Can somone tell me that if the Poundland mob borrowed 25 million from future season tickets over a 4 year period and they I believe are also being scrutinised again for possible vat non payment and they could be hit also by a 50 million tax bill how they would even be considered for a licensce to play in Euope? Id love a Range Rover so if I said to the dealer I will sign over to you my next four years pension and you give me the car what would I eat or pay any bills with? It looks to me that there is no way out for the Orcs they eventually one way or other are going to go bust.H.H.

celtic40me – if he doesn’t handle it right, then ole Michel’s legacy might well be European reconstruction outwith the auspices of UEFA!

They might successfully enforce FFP or the big clubs might revolt against it, but either way we should be better off then we are now. We would be closer to competing financially with English clubs implementing FFP, as opposed to the current situation where we can barely compete with Championship sides.

My preference would be large-scale reconstruction of top flight football in Europe, with Celtic gaining entry to the top table or a second tier with the opportunity of gaining promotion to the top league.

    We can dream!

DBBIA – interesting stuff. Our inclusion in the Next Gen series didn’t do the club any harm at all.

Thank you for reply its not that i really care who done what when as long as they get their come uppence and the punishment fits the crime.

Personally i would like to see them cease to exist for eternity just after the cause of their demise SDM gets shown up and exposed as the guilty party to the orcs.

Someone wrote on here the other night(cant remember who but i loved what he said) The day the great Jock Stein and his bhoys won the big cup was the day their demise started because each and every one of us can tell our children and grand children about the day the hoops won the big cup.

SDM and the rest of the orcs could not stomach the fact they would never be able to do so

so he set about trying to follow inJocks shadow.

spending other peoples money from that day the results of his masterplan are laid bare in front of every orc to see.

Plain as the nose on your face if your a tim but blinded by HATRED & DENIAL they will look to blame the most convienent people, places & things for the situation they are now in.

So heres a wee clue to any dark siders looking in, look no further than Mr Murray to blame oohhh and the late great Jock Stein( Hunskelping since 1965).

Thank you again Auld Neil Lennon heid enjoy the days ahead and may all our days be blessed.

    Mort,

agree with that. On the VAT issue it appears to me that this is not a loan against future revenue streams. This is an advance sale of specific tickets, therefore this would be deemed a taxable supply and VAT would be due on these transactions.

Yep, no record that its a loan which is probably their downfall re VAT.

Funnily enough the solicitors who arranged this are the same as those who arranged a similar scheme for Plymoth Argyle last season for their 10/11 and 11/12 season tickets and they went into administration to stave off HMRC who sought a winding up petition.

My father was there and it was one of the first stories of Celtic he told us.

George Patterson was a Celtic great of his time and MC Dale’s name lives on in infamy in the Celtic story.

I remember my dad telling me that George Young, I think it was, looked embarrassed when he took the penalty.

Can you imagine what negative influence George Graham had on Celtic during his term of office, when you consider that he was still there in 1952 for the Flag dispute.

Agreed matey, Mark Guidi or is it McGee he likes to be known was on last night saying well why dont the fans go ask Mr Whyte where’s the money gone and he said there’s no better place to voice yer concerns at the next home game.

He was basically telling them to let Whyte know their feelings and he was trying to get fans to turn against Whyte, although I can put my finger on why the media have turned against why all of a sudden, maybe Murray and co do have a plan after all.

After the DR came out with that story about Whyte, I have always been sceptical about that lot, I don’t trust anyone of them.
