Celtic’s January 2012 transfer window

916

Michael Lustig arrived early on a pre-contract from Rosenborg.  A right back as tall as the North Stand he is one of the most curious signings we’ve made in a while, considering the strength we have in that position.

Rabiu Ibrahim, past-wonder-kid of African football, came in after negotiating an end to an unproductive stay in Eindhoven.  I hear lots about Ibrahim’s ability but Celtic will have to find a way of turning that into a productive force in the SPL, something PSV were unable to do in the Netherlands.

Polish international striker, Pawel Brozek, arrived on load from Trabzonspor, where he spent most of last year at the side of the pitch.  Pawel is an experienced pro who is likely to enjoy his time in the SPL.  He’ll keep the front pairing of Abbot and Costello on their toes, neither of whom will be certain of retaining their place.

Young players, Paul Slane, James Keatings and Lewis Toshney went out on loan to MK Dons, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock respectively, which Josh Thompson continued his tour of English towns and cities by heading to Chesterfield for 6 months.  None were likely to make more than cameo appearances this season, all will benefit from the career development opportunity.

Throughout the month I ignored stories that we would sell our prime first-team assets, Hooper, Stokes, Samaras, Forrest, Commons, Ki, McCourt and Matthews were all linked with clubs in England and offers were received for six of the above, but who in their right mind would sell top players in January when you are in a nip –and-tuck race for the title?

To be honest, I’m quite delighted with ‘things’, right now.

Naw Croppy son I support the Celtic and if you can’t see that as your life path then that’s up to you, I have watched Celtic play on Coofields thirty years ago, so the pitch thing is nothing new!!

As to supporting the manger I have in fact been to Bethlehem and celebrated Holy Mass on Christmas Morning and that is something you don’t want to miss, Pilgrims from all over the world rejoicing at the birth of Jesus…

I’m happy with what we have all over the pitch. Our much maligned defence has looked very comfortable most of the time and kept numerous clean sheets.

We have Rogne Mulgrew Wilson Dan Loovens and Lustig and Victor as back up CBs. That is more than enough. We have Fojut coming in July. I dont believe we needed another CB this window imo

In my opinion every centre half on the books at Celtic is ‘cover’ – there are no first teamers

Absolutely bo chance of government saving clubs. It is the government who are making HMRC force clubs into acting responsibly using HMRC as their instrument. Apart from that I heard an interesting indicator of English public reaction to the idea in the shape of Adrian Durham of Talksport.

In commenting about the Portsmouth story he said no way as a tax payer could they he be helped by the taxpayer. Mr Durham’s leanings are obvious but not enough to stop him scorning the concept.

I think he is a good litmus test of mainstream thinking at the idea.

Well said Brian on clyde but they NEVER EVER bring out the most potent truth – Walter spent a fortune to win 3 in a row and the next pertinent question:

Where did they get that money from?

    EBT?

    Somewhere else?

Celtic spent the money they had and to advance the myth of Smiths’s ability they spent 40million while their media repeated the lie he had done this with no money.

He outspent the league to win those titles.

Where did that money come from with all these debts and tax cases?

    Another story worth investigating.

    Kittoch,

if your seriously considering the argument of Dreary Retard readers you need to remind them that their source covered all this news up for years, half the Celtic support believed this has been coming for a few years, consistently being dismissed by the same sources.

Generally I tend to laugh off anyone who spouts meeja opinion when I’m in the boozer, suggest you adopt a similar attitude, they deserve the same creedance as you’d give their sources.

  16. Tried to post photo but link is not working. Has anyone seen the picture of Hun David Healy with his arm around the shoulder of a so called Brigader of the UDA namely one Jackie McDonald. Healy is also giving thumbs up. Now call me cynical if Anto Stokes for instance happened to be pictured in the same room as Gerry Adams what do you think reaction of the Scottish press would be? Has anyone even seen the picture of Healy and the commander of the most notorious sectarian murder gang of the recent conflict namely the UFF in any Scottish publication?

I bet the Huns love this picture, they’ll hang it alongside the picture of fat boy Goram with his UVF death squad mates,

Healy is vermin of the 1st class.

Yeah as if Cameron is going to remove one of the corner stones of George Osbornes fiscal policy which will allow him to claim back billions in this time of Austerity. He is a Tory. All he is interested in is re election. Pandas and tories etc. Independence ? He has nothing to gain from it and everything to lose.

The only thing that concerns me is the judiciary with regards delaying findings as they will be on Murrays side and I want Whyte to do as much self interested damage as possible by hanging on and squeezing any nod winks and handshakes.

Also it is a battle over Season ticket money. The Record will tell them to boycott white for King and Murray I.e Skinty…but will they?

Hence why the hatchet job from the palptalk never happened.

Mc Coist will not quit or be fired. Costs too much for both parties. He is also still needed by the old guard as a go between and snitch.

  23. ‘Dozens killed’ in clashes at match in Egypt

More than 40 fans are reported to have died in clashes after a football match in Egypt.

Hundreds of the winning team’s fans poured onto the field after the match in Port Said ended.

A security official says they attacked players and fans of their opponents.

At least 20 people were injured.

The fans chased the players and cornered their supporters on the field and around the stadium, throwing stones and bottles at them, according to the security official.

Al-Masry won a rare 3-1 victory against Al-Ahly, Egypt’s top team in the port city.

The two teams have a long history of bad blood, and clashes have erupted in recent years between their fans.

Thousands of supporters covered the field, according to a video posted online.

Egypt’s health ministry said at least 40 were killed.

A medic at a morgue in Port Said, a city on the Mediterranean coast, said some of the dead were security officers.

The causes of the deaths were not immediately known.

The players were later taken to the dressing room for protection, Sayed Hamdi, a player, told state TV.

Soon after the violence, a match in the Cairo Stadium between the Al-Ismailiya and Zamalek was called off in mourning for the violence.

State TV showed video of sections of the Cairo stadium on fire.

The announcer said angry fans of the Zamalek protested the cancellation and set some sections of the stadium on fire.

But you haven’t answered the question if the directors paid would we go easy on the rangers new team and let them join the SPL for the good of the game as my Celtic supporting friends deem necessary

  25. It is a good situation having such a large pool of players however we can only play eleven at a time and there have been many tight matches during this recent good run.
