Celtic’s January 2012 transfer window

916

Michael Lustig arrived early on a pre-contract from Rosenborg.  A right back as tall as the North Stand he is one of the most curious signings we’ve made in a while, considering the strength we have in that position.

Rabiu Ibrahim, past-wonder-kid of African football, came in after negotiating an end to an unproductive stay in Eindhoven.  I hear lots about Ibrahim’s ability but Celtic will have to find a way of turning that into a productive force in the SPL, something PSV were unable to do in the Netherlands.

Polish international striker, Pawel Brozek, arrived on load from Trabzonspor, where he spent most of last year at the side of the pitch.  Pawel is an experienced pro who is likely to enjoy his time in the SPL.  He’ll keep the front pairing of Abbot and Costello on their toes, neither of whom will be certain of retaining their place.

Young players, Paul Slane, James Keatings and Lewis Toshney went out on loan to MK Dons, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock respectively, which Josh Thompson continued his tour of English towns and cities by heading to Chesterfield for 6 months.  None were likely to make more than cameo appearances this season, all will benefit from the career development opportunity.

Throughout the month I ignored stories that we would sell our prime first-team assets, Hooper, Stokes, Samaras, Forrest, Commons, Ki, McCourt and Matthews were all linked with clubs in England and offers were received for six of the above, but who in their right mind would sell top players in January when you are in a nip –and-tuck race for the title?

  3. Can’t even begin to understand how any Celtic supporter would want them to be in existence a second more than they must. Let them go to the wall and the sooner the better. Scotland will be a much better place without them.

  10. What sort of Celtic fan thinks we can’t do without them? We need the bigotry? We need the hatred? We need the honest mistakes?

We don’t need any of that, in fact most of the population don’t need any of the above, let’s grow up and move on, they don’t care, we don’t care! Playing them is poison, lance the boil! I remember brilliant atmospheres at Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen games.

Il still go back to the original post – by us ignoring the central defensive frailties in the summer cost us in European games.

Id like to think that when you are building a team, you do so in order to improve.

I applaud Celtic for building the selective aspects of the team they appear to have highlighted

Im a little staggered at the apparent blindness towards the area of our team that I believe to be our weakest, and has been for the guts of a decade.

  12. How much money do Celtic get from the current Sky deal and how much from the proposed new deal if Rangers survive

your comment re our CB`s deficiencies

we don`t play top class opposition in the SPL,as a result we get a paltry amount in tv money

I agree – which is why I am baffled that we secured a 4th right back, have a hundred midfielders and chased a 5th striker before the deadline passed.

Doesnt sound like the kind of team operating on that shoe string to me

  16. Do we need them? No.

As we jokingly say (but reasonably true) hearts fans are orcs without the bus fare, therefore other out lying clubs will gain from their demise.

Could you help save Glasgow Rangers Football Club?

A lot of empty seats ar Sunderland, despite what MON has achieved over the last eight games.

On another point I thought the English pundits were pretty sarcastic about Jelevic’s ability to score goals in the EPL, just because he came from the SPL. I got me thinking about how many of the current Celtic team could make an impact dowm south, and I reckon 7/8 could make a significant impact, Hooper, Matthews, Forster, Wanyama, Kayal, Brown, Izzy, Mulgrew, Forrest, in fact most of the team!

The point is either that we ignore the corruption and cheating that has been going on for years for a few bob from a corrupt media organisation or we live within our means, enjoy our euro nights, continue to bring through talent.

Or we play them four times a season and die a little every time.

  24. Any deluded Celtic fan who thinks that we need the huns obviously doesn’t know our history!

We were a bigger club than them for years until the influx of the bigots from East Belfast to work in H&W combined with the advent of the super bigot Struth

When this present manifestation of anti – Irish Catholic bigotry disappears no doubt another will take its place

Any genuine Newco hun club could and should not be punished for the crimes of the old huns -it just wouldn’t stand up either morally or legally

Thats why the only fitting punishment has to be the stripping of any and all honours won by the old huns while they operated the tax scam and the new huns have to start at the bottom of SFL 3

Anything else renders Scottish football morally bankrupt and aids and abets cheating the whole country not just the football clubs and public

If this is what happens – then the game in Scotland deserves to die – as die it will as any decent person would not want anything to do with it

The questions were so typically english and so typically sky.

Missus lying in a heap, sorted :-))

Firstly, Rogne played against the huns, a step up from St Johnstone I’m sure you’ll agree, and was part of a defensive partnership that kept a clean sheet.

He is young and developing. Currently we can only judge him against SPL opposition because injury has deprived us of witnessing him against ‘better’ teams.

Him along with Mulgrew and Dan have made mistakes that is the only claim you can make as FACT. I’ve seen plenty of times when Rogne has dispossessed players running at him. I’ve rarely seen the opposition running in behind Mulgrew. In fact, Sunday as an exception, I’d say that tracking back is a strength of his. Yes Dan has had a propensity to misjudge the flight of the ball but in the lead up to his horrific injury we were beginning to see why he’s been capped so often for Sweden.

Every defence and every individual player is liable to make mistakes from time to time but remember that this much maligned Celtic defence conceded less goals than any other team in the SPL last season.

Of course you’re entitled to your opinion buddy, just like the rest of us, but please do me a favour and don’t attempt to pass it off as fact.

    Just my opinion like :-))
