Celtic 2-0 Dundee

726

Fabulous goals from Gary Hooper and Victory Wanyama put Celtic back on winning ways, their first victory in four games in September but Dundee held out until minutes before the break, aided by an excellent performance from Rab Douglas.

Another ex-Celt, Gary Irvine, had a penalty claim 7 minutes in but the ref wasn’t convinced; Irvine’s tumble was a tad overdramatic.  Celtic were cut open on 15 minutes when Colin Nish found space inside the box but his shot was blocked.  The rebound broke to John Baird who should have converted but fired over the bar.

A minute later Lassad, making his home debut, dribbled to the edge of the six yard box when he appeared to be tripped but again referee, Beaton, denied the claim.

Kris Commons then stepped up the pressure.  His cross was dummied by Lassad but Gary Hooper’s shot was saved.  Commons then played a diagonal ball through to Lassad who shot wide.

Charlie Mulgrew brought a good save from Douglas from a free kick on the edge of the D after Wanyama was brought down.  The Dundee keeper then topped that effort with a save from Forrest after a good cutback from Lassad, before saving again from the same player a minute later.

Lassad’s movement eventually brought a reward when Beaton pointed to the penalty spot after the former Deportivo striker had his legs clipped.  Scott Brown has been reliable from the spot this year but this effort didn’t get anywhere near the post, allowing Rab Douglas another opportunity to show what he can do.

Brown made amends a minute before the break when his forward pass was collected by Gary Hooper.  Hooper still had a lot to do but nutmeged his marker before firing home, from an angle, into the far corner.

The advantage was almost doubled a minute into the second half when Gary Irvine tried to chest the ball back to Rab Douglas but found the post instead, however, Dundee were two behind three minutes later.

Victor Wanyama shot low and hard from 26 yards, clipping the inside of the post before crossing the line.

Lassad almost opened his scoring account for Celtic with a good header but Rab Douglas was a match to the attempt again.  Tony Watt used his impressive strength to get a cross to Gary Hooper, who steadied before shooting against the upright.

  1. Certainly nationalists in the North of Ireland are much more politically informed than their unionist counterparts. I would say that it’s true of all mistreated minorities.

Events like Bloody Sunday show how much the press can manipulate things. Added to that, politics affects your life much more than if you were a middle class unionist who basically doesn’t take much of an interest..

Hence nationalists are much more aware and questioning of what is really going on.

Most of the opposition payers will be working through the week so Sunday might be the only day they’ve got free to play football.

Kevinlasvegas, having sold their soul to the devil many moons ago it negates their need to go to church, hence Sunday free for division 3.

KLV- sometimes it’s for the telly- yesterday we were at home, and polis want fixtures split over weekend.

And maybe, just maybe [although it’s a long shot] it’s good for their undead souls.

The idea that every member of the ‘advanced’ working class is a mason is nonsense. Do the arithmetic.

  10. Rangers should be renamed as per the Warren Zevon song, Things to do in Ibrox when you’re dead.

Here’s a very quick re-write of the first verse lyrics. Someone else will finish rthis off

“I called up Fat Paul Le Guen on the phone

I said, Buddy, I’m afraid we’re on our own

‘Cause I got some weird ideas in my head

About things to do in Ibrox when we’re dead”

  11. Just one quick observation about the bucket collecting yesterday.

I noticed a lot of parents with children did not directly donate to the bucket themselves. Instead they gave money to their children to do so. At first, I thought this was just cute or because Oscar is a child himself but, thinking on it, I realise that they were passing on the torch of what we are about.

Have to rush out but I remain humbled by yesterday

  15. A personal take on the mindset of ‘them’:

Some 20 years ago I was , briefly, employed by an Ayrshire-based company where one of my colleagues was a particularly rabid hun. I had known him for a number of years, because Mrs Tally knew his wife – she could’nt stand him ‘tho, but that’s another story.

He had a brother in S Africa – no, not Dave King – so off they went to that beautiful but troubled country to spend a month-long holiday.

On his return he called in one day to show off his holiday snaps. I was expecting to see photographs of Kruger National Park and all the wildlife there, Table Mountain, the waves of the Indian Ocean and countless other natural wonders.

Did’nt see any of those. Only saw photos that had been taken inside the local hun’s supporters club! Walls adorned with Union Jacks, red hands and other assorted monstrosities – and as for the locals who frequented it?! You can well imagine what they looked like!

Glanced at a couple of snaps and went to the loo to calm down.

Still sums them up to this day.

Are some of you really trying to state that der hun approach involves deference?

I can only see superiority and triumphalism…….. laced with fear and mistrust.

Whilst there may be masonic hierarchies, there are hierarchies involved in other structures which some may claim does not make people deferential?

Siciliabhoy- except on weekend of 10/11 November, when we play on the Sunday.

    Co-incidence?

  18. Why are Sevco games so often on Sundays?

    It’s a Timmy conspiracy.

Everyone knows that all those loyal supporters hate missing the Sunday service in their local kirk. This is just another scheme by PL to add more agony to the hurtin hoardes.

Well, it’s as believable as all the other bull they believe in ….

  19. I am watching this SPL slug fest before the Anfield match begins.

The SPL must be the last remaining league where commentators still tak about full backs ” layingdown a marker” on wingers as if it is a good thing. The thuggery that is allowed to go unpunished is dragging our game down whilst other leagues move on, we play in a distressed wee league where refs allow knee high tackles to go unpunished ,yet their bosses write reports about banners and if any coach wanders 3 feet out of his coaching zone.

The two young Motherwell defenders Hutchison and Kerr are kicking lumps out of anything that comes near them , and Hutchison has just launched himself at the Aberdeen goalkeper like a demented dervish. In most leagues the two of them would have been red carded by now. I coach young footballers and know that the two lads will be very good footballers; how and when are they turned into hatchet men? I hope they meet some educated coaches who will bring out the best in them.

I am sure the Mc Mullet will have them suitably restraimed on Tuesday but back at full throttle on Saturday.

…..and most of all, the amazing efforts for wee Oscar.

    >>>

I also recognised, last night, those who have nothing to do with Celtic who have dug deep to raise the necessaries to help the wee fhella. Some things have no boundaries, recognise no borders or divisions.

As Philvis said (and I rarely agree with him!) the world is a better place for Celtic being in it.

    100% agreement about that.

The games in the SPL are actually getting better this season, with all teams trying to get into a euro position ……. Bet you won’t that coming out of keevins ‘pot-hole’

I fully expect an insipid display by the mullet’s team on Tuesday to the point where SevCo will beat them

It will be interesting to see who the ref is on Saturday at Fir Park as McCall will instruct them to kick lumps out of us all afternoon

For this reason, I believe that we have no future in Scottish football.

I have noticed headlines re Scottish clubs’ interest in Euro Leagues.

I wonder is this resulting from Peter Lawwell’s less than enthusiastic views on league reconstruction?

I hope and believe that our medium term strategy is actively working on this.

Green is a busted flush as witness his pathetic display in North America.

As yet, I have not heard of any writs being served on him.

Like others, I believe that RTC’s upcoming torpedo will leave the MSM with no hiding place, much to the ire of their bosses and shareholders.
