Celtic 2-0 Dundee

726

Fabulous goals from Gary Hooper and Victory Wanyama put Celtic back on winning ways, their first victory in four games in September but Dundee held out until minutes before the break, aided by an excellent performance from Rab Douglas.

Another ex-Celt, Gary Irvine, had a penalty claim 7 minutes in but the ref wasn’t convinced; Irvine’s tumble was a tad overdramatic.  Celtic were cut open on 15 minutes when Colin Nish found space inside the box but his shot was blocked.  The rebound broke to John Baird who should have converted but fired over the bar.

A minute later Lassad, making his home debut, dribbled to the edge of the six yard box when he appeared to be tripped but again referee, Beaton, denied the claim.

Kris Commons then stepped up the pressure.  His cross was dummied by Lassad but Gary Hooper’s shot was saved.  Commons then played a diagonal ball through to Lassad who shot wide.

Charlie Mulgrew brought a good save from Douglas from a free kick on the edge of the D after Wanyama was brought down.  The Dundee keeper then topped that effort with a save from Forrest after a good cutback from Lassad, before saving again from the same player a minute later.

Lassad’s movement eventually brought a reward when Beaton pointed to the penalty spot after the former Deportivo striker had his legs clipped.  Scott Brown has been reliable from the spot this year but this effort didn’t get anywhere near the post, allowing Rab Douglas another opportunity to show what he can do.

Brown made amends a minute before the break when his forward pass was collected by Gary Hooper.  Hooper still had a lot to do but nutmeged his marker before firing home, from an angle, into the far corner.

The advantage was almost doubled a minute into the second half when Gary Irvine tried to chest the ball back to Rab Douglas but found the post instead, however, Dundee were two behind three minutes later.

Victor Wanyama shot low and hard from 26 yards, clipping the inside of the post before crossing the line.

Lassad almost opened his scoring account for Celtic with a good header but Rab Douglas was a match to the attempt again.  Tony Watt used his impressive strength to get a cross to Gary Hooper, who steadied before shooting against the upright.

That other unenviable record also held by Oldco – The club that took part in most ever European Cup/CL competitions without having actually won the damn thing looks set to stand for a wee while yet.

Ah well sure, maybe their cousins Linfield will take that honour in a few years time.

    Yo-ho-ho.

I’d just like to add my congratulations to Marc (CRC), Bundoran Bhoy and the Bucketeers for a fantastic effort. Also to the Dundee FC and Celtic fans who contributed. Truly outstanding.

Sorry to say it, Bucketeers, but I hope those buckets were extremely heavy!

I was collecting today for Oscar and the generosity of the Celtic fans would make you proud, one chap handed me £100 and a CSC from Livingston collected £160 on the bus.

Another bhoy asked me to explain the appeal and he said to me “I’m glad I put money into that never heard of the appeal before, then he revealed to be that he just found out last week that his brother was suffering from cancer”

Now I did find it hard to fight the tears!

-2 tomorrow is 8/11 with paddy power – no matter what we think, they have seen this easily in all their home league matches

8/5 -3 could be well worth a punt

treble it up with Mayo +2 at 1/1 and either Liverpool goals galore or Aberdeen goals galore

Think Donegal maybe will have too much power for Mayo.

Goals galore in both the Liverpool and Aberdeen games looks like a good shout.

  11. It was a pleasure to be involved today alongside the many volunteers who gave up their time for such a great cause.

Celticrollercoaster and all the organisers a massive Thank You and also Well Done for the incredible amount of time and effort you have put into this. It really does make you stop and think and realise that this Club isn’t just about the well paid stars of the team or the manager and coaches. It is every bit about Every single Celtic fan, we are united like never before I feel (Cheers for that deidco). If you remember what this Club was staring at near the end of the Tony Mowbray days, it was a horrendous situation we were thinking but hey, look at us now.

It was also good to put a face to a name of a few CQNers finally and It was a privilege to be in the B company with excellent men and women and it is safe to say we were all astonished at the level of charity and support the Celtic fans, Dundee fans and even some Police officers (although not sure they were allowed to hehe) showed today. The amounts some were putting in were staggering and it is and always will be the Celtic support who are the real heroes of Celtic FC.

It was great to talk and listen to MurdochauldandHay, RRC, Mountblowtim, Dave, midfield maestro (awesome effort vocally) and the fine young ladies who were also in the company with brilliant vocals and all well coordinated by Tony, great effort.

Briefly met MightyTim and again a top bloke, I think if I remember correctly you have had a difficult time lately but you were out there doing your bit for Oscar, very humbling really.

Once I got into the game about 3:15 I was greeted by one of my favourite posters, the bournesouprecipe. The man is an absolute Gentleman and I really enjoyed watching the game with the man. Some of his elderly friends are determined to get into the Green Brigade section though and that might be a bit dodgy, the old Ultras. ;)

    God Bless wee Knoxy.

  12. Didn’t see the game today but very good ny all account. Hopefully we’ll build up some good rhythm while employing a steady squad rotation system to keep everyone fresh if that’s what’s needed and go on and rack up some good wins.

Have to say, I’ve always liked big rab and glad he is back at the top again. An honest pro out earning his bread, got some big breaks and continues to work to stay on track I’m sure. I also get the impression from interviews etc that he comes across like theres not a nicer guy you could meet.

Having said that, I’m glad he didn’t as save everything today

Sevco have covered the minus goals every time at home – i understand why people wouldnt back them

Mayo have been knocking at the door in the last 3-4 years – Donegal have been too good this year, everything has went to plan – they look almost perfect

i think they will start the way they have finished in their last 2 games and then have to chase the game, then Mayo pick them off – i actually fancy mayo big style at 13/5 – but im taking the safe option at +2

A few items I picked up today an Channel 67, which in my opinion has come on in leaps and bounds in quality this season.

Beginning of the match Kris Commons drinks in the atmosphere, lifts his his head and directs a cheeky grin on the direction of the Green Brigade.

Dare I go as far as to say I thought the midfield was outstanding today? Ok, I will. Broonie was everywhere and I lost count of the times a Dundee player bounced off the man mountain that is Victor Wanyama, while he recovered the ball.

Number 67 again. At the end of the match instead of running up the tunnel stood and signed every single item held out for him by the kids.

    _________________________________________________________________

I agree, I thought Scott and Victor totally controlled the game from midfield and made it a very easy afternoons work. It looked to me like Lassad is not anywhere near match fit but there was a bit of pace about him in one of his sprints.

It was also good to get a brief look at Efe, my goodness him and Victor looked very imposing figures as a pair in the centre.

It’s all looking good for the future.

antrimkev – I know what you are saying, for a money maker,Sevco should win by at least 3 or 4 clear goals, decent prices – would never back them to win though because i don’t like them.

Would love to see Mayo win – 13/5 is a price i like.I’ll back them for a wee interest.

Over 2.5 goals in both Celtic and Zombie games during the week – the double pays just under 5/4.

    Cheers mate.

  20. give kris commons wife a big thank you ,being pregnant giving it all for oscars appeal. get your wristbands here she was saying to the supporters outside the old school building,so again to you and all the bucketeers ,well done.

  22. A good enough performance today on the park and a phenomenal one off it from those who did their bit to collect for wee Oscar. My only complaint was with the fans who failed to show- where were they?

  23. Never NEVER ever ever bet on sevco :(((

The thought of losing money is bad enough, the thought of them being the said cause of me losing money is unthinkable.

    think of it this way

They are going to win every home league match at a canter

might as well make a few quid along the way as they break world records and scoreboards before they put us rightfully back in our place?

  26. Big well done to all the bucketeers, also to all who contributed.

I must apologise as i dont know how to give on line,i live in england and the shifts i work does not let me get up the road much.

But when i do (i know you shouldnt start a sentence with but, but sod it)

i will gladly meet up with someone and donate then.

If its any consolation little Oscar is in my prayers every day, also when i light a candle at mass.

Hail hail and God bless Oscar and those who collected and those that gave genorously,

you make us proud to belong to the CELTIC family.
