CELTIC AT JAGS IN CUP

CELTIC will kick off their defence of the Betfred League with a trip across Glasgow to take on Partick Thistle in the second round at Firhill next month.

The Hoops have won the competition twice during Brendan Rodgers’ reign – the first against Aberdeen two seasons ago which was the 100th  silverware success in the club’s history.

Goals from Tom Rogic, James Forrest and Moussa Dembele (pen) on November 27 2016 handed the Irishman’s first trophy at Parkhead.

And the team successful defended it in the last campaign when they beat a stubborn Motherwell outfit 2-0 at Hampden with Forrest and Dembele again on target.

The champions played the Maryhill team three times in the Premiership before the split and won the lot. They were also drawn in the Scottish Cup where a sizzling hat-trick from an on-fire Forrest gave Rodgers’ men a 3-2 triumph on their way to retaining that Cup.

Alan Archibald’s men were relegated after losing their play-offs against Livingston.
