Celtic get what their inconsistency deserved

827

Was anyone surprised at yesterday’s result?  You shouldn’t have been.  I don’t think I’ve ever before written two articles against taking a result for granted.  Celtic are ridiculously inconsistent as Kilmarnock, Hibs, St Johnstone, Inverness and now St Mirren will testify, even Arbroath left Celtic Park with a draw.  The intensity which has been self-evident on Champions League duty has been posted missing far too often.

Defeat yesterday was entirely possible as is defeat away to Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.  There will be entirely different tactics and attitude when Juventus call next month but right now you’re feeling sore because, against all odds, we’ve conceded a League Cup final place and we’ll find an equally brave opponent at some point in the Scottish Cup unless a solution is found.

Speaking at the funeral of Sean Fallon last week, Sir Alex Ferguson referred to need for a manager to be a hard taskmaster, generating a corresponding need for the assistant manager to be plugged into the dressing room.  I’m sure this is not the only way of managing a football team but it was how Jock Stein and Sean worked, and it’s how Sir Alex has worked for the last three decades.

Millionaire players need an edge in their lives to deliver on a lesser stage.

I had to be in Paisley all morning, which did not help my mood.

RFC will NOT be stripped of titles *** EXCLUSIVE ***

I can tonight reveal that Lord Nimmo Smiths enquiry into the EBT scheme ran by the club between 2001 and 2010 will NOT result in trophies leaving the Ibrox trophy cabinet.

Although Rangers may yet be found guilty of a failing to correctly register players contracts with the SPL sources close to the early part of the enquiry have confirmed to me this evening that there is NO prospect of ANY of our world record 54 league titles being wiped from the record books.

This news will come as a welcome relief to millions of Rangers fans across the globe but perhaps more importantly it will finally shut up the anonymous Rangers hating bloggers who have set up a vile campaign to discredit our club and its honours.

My source close to the story has informed me of a recent UEFA directive passed to member associations and affiliated leagues which dealt with punishments for administrative errors in the game.

Earlier this year Belarusian side Slavia-Mozyr took their national association to the CAS after being docked points in the league as one of their players (Lithuanian midfielder Dmitry Navikas) had not had his contract properly logged with the Football Federation of Belarus. The players contract, rather comically, was ten years out of date due to an administrative error which printed the wrong dates on his contract and the clubs was handed 3-0 defeats for the three league matches he participated in.

Once the case went to the CAS it found in Mozyr’s favour and following this the memorandum went out by UEFA to advise that the precedent was now set and administrative errors should be dealt with in such a way that the punishment should not encroach as far as results fought for and gained fairly on the field of play.

The first evidence of this new directive coming into play was when the FA ripped up their own rule book to allow Bradford back into the FA Cup despite fielding a illegible player in their tie against Brentford (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st…appeal?cc=5739

    )

Should you want to discuss the above story please contact me on twitter @celticareanewco

I would also like to state that at this point I can’t give full details on my source or why I am 100% standing by this article and the fact we will NOT lose trophies.

I am willing to confirm right here, right now, that if what I say is not accurate and the club is stripped of the trophies they won on the pitch I’ll happily give £100 to Erskine and close my blog and twitter account.

  12. Top of the morning to you all from a still dark Fife.

Having mulled over the result and performance on Sunday I have to say that unlike some others (the majority?) on this site I am not too despondent.

Leaving aside the tactics and team that Lenny put out, we were beaten by a better team on the day.

St Mirren wanted it more than us and played with more skill and conviction than us.

This fact makes defeat in a semi-final more palatable than if we had been beaten by a poorer team and a bent referee, which has often been the case in the past.

We will get over it and better to lose now; learn lessons from our defeat, and take remedial action, than to scrape through and let the problems we obviously have get worse.

    H.H.

  14. auldheid from yesterday evening and ny criticism of the current manager

Apart from the defeats against ross county, oldco, killie , st mirren, hearts there is one other telling result on the poor preparation by the current management team.

When we lost against ICT we effectively lost the league. I heard from 2 players that we thought we had won the league when we won at kilmarknock. The feeling within the club was that we would take care of ICT. Of course we did not turm up and ICT won to hand oldco the title.

I believe the current manager failed to prepare and motivate the team for these games and cost us several trophies. If this was any other manager he would have been chased by now.

I also have a problem that some players such as Joe Ledley drink in the same pub as the manager. That is unprofessional and should stop especially after his no show on sunday.

Regarding a replacement I would reconsider Owen Coyle ; at least we could guarantee he would not be drinking with the players.

  15. Tim Malone Will Tell on

Ten years worth of EBT’s is an awful lot of administrative errors.

Surely scale of the financial cheating is something that has to be taken into account.

Or is it a case of ensuring that if you tell a lie, make it a bloody great whopper?

The SPL/SFA have so far made a right mess of this. The double whammy is that if LNS goes easy on Deadco, all the threats and posturing by the mad cabal will be seen to be successful…leaving us to expect more of the same now and in future.

  16. Lucky Cody – I heard from 2 players….

    ….the feeling within the club….

You must have some contacts mate!

Who were the ‘2 players’ and just how did you gauge ‘the feeling’?

    Are you Alan Thompson? :-D

  17. Tim Malone Will Tell on

I also have a suspicion that the delay in allowing Hector to appeal the FTT result is coordinated to allow LNS to issue judgement at a time when Deidco is technically not guilty of tax evasion and not yet under further scrutiny.

  18. Morning all. It seems to be the calm before the storm here at the moment.

I heard a wee snatch of Radio Scotland earlier. Billy Dodds was saying he would be devastated if the deadybears were stripped of titles when he was playing. No mention (as far as I heard) of their cheating.

  19. Big Swee walks on with Neil Lennon on

Looking forward to the game tomorrow as I think Kilmarnock will reckon they have the chance to rattle us further but just maybe are fearing a backlash from a manager and team determined to put things right.

We have the chance to answer the questions and negative spouting so c’mon Celtic.

Get it done and in style.

  20. HarryHoodsDug – nope not a Hun or a zombie

    I have 4 season tickets.

I am not a fan of Lenny as manager due to the repeated failures against inferior teams.

I am abroad most of the time on business , currently typing this from Berlin. However I keep a close contact on all things Celtic.

First memories of watchin celtic were against clyde at shawfield where if i remember correctly danny mcgrains cousin suffered a fractured skull; first old firm game a 1 0 victory at CP with a bobby lennox goal altho nearly crushed on the way.

I jump around a bit lenzie, berlin, malahide, dungloe – you cant hit a moving target. A tic fanatic who has had enough of lennys failures.

ps. I will names one of the players as he has left the club effectively- Darryl Murphy
