Celtic Hampden win rate higher than at Paradise itself

561

By the time they cross the white line on Sunday afternoon, Celtic will have rested for 8 days.  Kyogo had a few heavy training sessions early in the week and will be fitter, Giorgos Giakoumakis has iced his delicate limb.  The entire squad has rested in preparation for Hampden, a stadium, which incredibly, over many years, has provided Celtic with a higher win rate that the Paradise itself.

I didn’t get everything I wanted from this week’s European ties, but extra time at Ibrox was top of my list.  The script is written, althogh, you and I both know football is full of adlib moments.  Scripts give you a sense of what to expect, the punchlines often come from an inspired creator rising to the occasion.  We can take nothing for granted, this will be a battle.

On our last visit to Hampden, Ange Postecoglou considered the League Cup Final important enough to start Kyogo, who pulled a hamstring 10 days earlier.  The decision proved pivotal, as our Japanese striker scored two to transform a deficit into a win.  The manager’s wisdom was called into question a week later, when the same player exacerbated his injury, leading to a three-month layoff.

With a glance at the trophy cabinet, Ange might consider his instincts were right regarding Kyogo.  If so, Giakoumakis is likely to start.  Those three months, however, gave Ange time to ruminate.   I expect the Greek to start on the bench.

Patience will be required.  The game could last 120 minutes, if so, substitute decisions will be important.  Oh, and please, tomorrow, practice from 12 yards……….

I don’t too many podcast stuff but wife & daughter were away to Balloch fir the day … young Hamish on Hail Hail 67 is a decent watch … one if his latest was about ex-players slagging their team … Provan, Alan Brazil & co … it’s a good wee listen … seemingly even before Ange came to Celtic he didn’t like ex players having a dig at their former employers ….

Ffs … Ange is certainly at the right club now

One of my big sisters (probably my favourite) used to live just uo from Balloch train station … when leaving Coatbrig her first flat was in Bonhill just across from a big field with fitba parks at the top of the hill as she worked in Dumbarton tax office (we all have a HMRC background … nepotism) … my wee yin loves Balloch & Helensburgh … give her and the granddaughter a swing park and they are as happy as a pig in … muck :-) although when they all went for something to eat I get the bank notification when they came at their bill

  12. The Green Brigade (in my opinion) aren’t any better than any other Celtic fans/supporters … some give them grief about costing the club money ?? Maybe our board have cost us more … but one thing for sure I would rather have the GB than not have them, very little gets spoken / posted about the charity work, the food bank stuff … real life stuff … so in my opinion

God Bless the Green Brigade 🍀

Again in a personal level trust me the kids attending their first few games most watch the GB than the fitba

I was lucky enough to be in McChuills at one of BMCUWP day oots … in the “smoking area” there were a few tables of men & ladies … after a few hours we were all asked what we’d like to drink … it was Martin’s family who were there but I for one didn’t realise at the time …. But the Kanu Foundation are massive fir local schools :.. I took my daughter ti the Scott Brown testimonial … thanks to a gentleman from these pages Johnbay … but through her school my wee yin went to a couple of games all through the Kano foundation … Hibs midweek and I think Motherwell (pre Covid) my daughter at the age of 10 said “I much prefer going to see Celtic with my pals than you dad” … it’s was delighted that the Kano foundation done more in 2 x 90mins than I had achieved in the 10yrs previous …

By the way the Kano foundation do not let any kids bring money (in case so me families might not have the cash) .., every kid gets a juice, something to eat, a goody bag with a Kano foundation Celtic scarf…. Cektuc as a club should be supporting this more than anything … they are attracting youngsters to our club

The lack of support from Celtic over the season tickets the foundation require …

Am not one for hitting out at the board as I dint care much for any Celtic board but I can assure you the Celtic corporation could do far more than they do for a terrific initiative like the Kano Foundation… drop them a wee email and ask if they think “our” club support them enough … in my opinion “our” club don’t

Would be delighted if you can show me the “support” Celtic are providing

My post was from a personal point … I know kids who went to Celtic games through the Kano Foundation who would have never attended a Celtic game .. Celtic should be investing in these favs … they don’t

The foundation rely on people giving donations, it’s a PR own goal from our board … (in my opinion)

These are the fans for the future … I picked m daughter up after her first game and ever single kid bounced off the mini bus clutching their Kano foundation Celtic scarf …. It’s what kids will remember in the years ahead … so it’s an investment from the club … they will get far more back

Celtic Football Club’s incoming Chief Executive Dominic McKay was delighted today to meet the Kano Foundation at Celtic Park as the Club confirmed it has donated more than 150 season books to the charity.

For more than 10 years The KANO Foundation, through a group of volunteers has played its part in helping to keep football Free for Kids.

Their mission is to treat youngsters, regardless of background and circumstance, to a day out at Celtic Park. Since season 2010/2011 TKF have given a modern day ‘lift over the turnstile’ to thousands of children varying from boys and girls football teams to local youth clubs and young people with special needs.

This is something which resonates with Celtic and we are delighted that The Kano Foundation will be back at Celtic Park again next season, we hope in person to cheer on the team and continuing their outstanding work of keeping football free for kids.

Lockdown had a huge impact on every one of us last season and none more so than the Kano Foundation who renewed all of their Season Tickets to find like everyone else that access to matches was not possible. This meant that so many kids who would have been looking forward to a day at Paradise had to miss out along with all of our supporters.

Due to the unique nature of the way their Season Tickets are managed and rotated through different kids each week, the Kano were ultimately unable to utilise over 150 Pass to Paradise Season Tickets last season.

Celtic has therefore stepped up this season to recognise this unique situation and incoming CEO Dom McKay has now offered the Kano Foundation 154 free kids Season Tickets for the new season where we hope we’ll see a return to fans at Celtic Park and of course the Kano Kids behind the goal in the Lisbon Lions Stand.

The Club is delighted to donate these seats to the Kano Foundation and we look forward to continuing to work together.

Incoming Celtic Chief Executive Dominic McKay said: “The Kano Foundation provide a fantastic opportunity for kids to access matches and everyone at the Club is delighted to continue our support in this way. The work of the Foundation is just one example of the tremendous charitable ethos amongst our fans. The work carried out makes a huge, positive difference to the lives of so many kids and I applaud all those who work so hard to make the Kano Foundation such a success.”

A fellow CQNer textd me that … in your opinion do you think that’s enough ?

And what about last season when the season tickets were already purchased … an none of the kids could attend ?

By the way I just think the club should do more as it’s such a great thing and should be supported by all

Not looking for any grief over it … just know it’s such a great thing for young Celtic fans who without the Alamo foundation might not see Kyogo & co in real life

  27. Tom, the season tickets provided by Celtic to the Kano Foundation for this season, is the first time I’m aware of , Celtic have given any but much appreciated assistance to the Kano Foundation.

the most outstanding and selfless organisation, doing the most brother walfrid and doretheus like thing, truelly the most celtic of spirits and actual actions.

everytime a kid gets to celtic park, and it doesnt cost their parents anything, and equally all the kids have the exact same day out, no monies required, all treated the same.

i sit next to them sometimes, first half. their chaperones cant believe how good it all is, how generous of spirit it all is.
