Celtic Hampden win rate higher than at Paradise itself

561

By the time they cross the white line on Sunday afternoon, Celtic will have rested for 8 days.  Kyogo had a few heavy training sessions early in the week and will be fitter, Giorgos Giakoumakis has iced his delicate limb.  The entire squad has rested in preparation for Hampden, a stadium, which incredibly, over many years, has provided Celtic with a higher win rate that the Paradise itself.

I didn’t get everything I wanted from this week’s European ties, but extra time at Ibrox was top of my list.  The script is written, althogh, you and I both know football is full of adlib moments.  Scripts give you a sense of what to expect, the punchlines often come from an inspired creator rising to the occasion.  We can take nothing for granted, this will be a battle.

On our last visit to Hampden, Ange Postecoglou considered the League Cup Final important enough to start Kyogo, who pulled a hamstring 10 days earlier.  The decision proved pivotal, as our Japanese striker scored two to transform a deficit into a win.  The manager’s wisdom was called into question a week later, when the same player exacerbated his injury, leading to a three-month layoff.

With a glance at the trophy cabinet, Ange might consider his instincts were right regarding Kyogo.  If so, Giakoumakis is likely to start.  Those three months, however, gave Ange time to ruminate.   I expect the Greek to start on the bench.

Patience will be required.  The game could last 120 minutes, if so, substitute decisions will be important.  Oh, and please, tomorrow, practice from 12 yards……….

  3. Happy Easter to all …

As is posted many times … only a fool would predict the outcome of the match today …

A Celtic player will score a hattrick, not sure who until I see the starting 11

Madden will referee both teams differently (I actually think he is the most competent out of all the refs, but still a Hun)

Callum will run the show and is already a cert for man of the match

Enjoy your day fellow Celts 🍀🇮🇪

  5. I have a theory (probably flawed) when it comes to young Master Jota. He always plays better on big pitches, afternoon kick offs and warmer weather…time for legend status young man!

  7. Up early with the Bunnies. A very holy and peaceful Esster Sunday to one and all.

Later on it looks like a beautiful Sunday for Hun skelping.

In Ange we trust, but hopefully he doesn’t put all his eggs in one basket.

The journey is awesome, we have eliminated needless passing back. Forward we chant, no receding hareline here.

Here’s hoping for an egg-cellent performance.

  10. TURKEYBHOY- I hope you are well.

I am hoping that Ange is toying with the press.

If he doesn’t we still have plenty of goals over the team, he just brings a physical element to our game.

I would start Kyogo then if GG is not playing. Kyogo and Maeda together WOW.

  14. I hate these games and I hate thems.

They are a disgrace to the game and a shameful insight into some of the worst aspects of Scottish life.

Our Club, in stark contrast, is emblematic of the best bits of The beautiful Game.

3 quick Celtic goals in the first 10 mins will see me warm up a tad.

    No bother, take care

I have never saw Celtic lose at Hampden so only good memories for me 1980 was my first at the age of 10 in a car with 3 gers fans and 2 Celtic fans… I was the only kid as my neighbour who supported the other mob took me as he knew I loved Celtic … we were well away from the all the trouble in the old stand across from the tunnel … then 1985 the Davie Provan winner, centenary season McGhee & MacAvennie, then Joe Miller in 1989…. The 80s were good to me :-)

    Hopefully more memories today 🇮🇪

HOT SMOKED on 16TH APRIL 2022 3:27 PM

I’m referring to the generations of Celtic supporters who found the idea of Scottish nationalism abhorrent.`

Thanks. I thought you meant Celtic supporters waving/wearing red , white and blue and, as I cannot remember you being wrong in your statements, I felt that ( wearing of red, white and blue)must have escaped my notice !!

  22. As I know that the real Rangers are in liquidation, why do I detest this new thing just as strongly? Is it simply because of the pretence of the Establishment in Scotland ?

  23. Celtic should be in fine shape with only Giakoumakis apparently ruled out, I think AP will remain faithful to Daizen Maeda and keep the formation with wide men Abada and Jota slotting in to give the side a familiar look. The longer Kyogo stays on the bench the better we are doing today, in what will be a very difficult game, but because we’ve won the last two new club derbies Celtic supporters are entitled to be confident.

The rest of the Celtic side is very predictable in this showcase game on ‘semi’ neutral ground, where many teams haven’t had an answer to Tom Rogic in vintage form of late , wonder if he’ll kicked early doors in this one? after him winning the game at Poundland the other week. Turnbull and O’Riley also in waiting Celtic have depth, and the league leading partnership of CCV and Carl Starfelt will, face up to Keymar Roofe, the new threat of a big guy that likes to fall over in Rainjurz style, keep Kent away from the penalty box to prevent tackling him inside, where they’ll expect for their bread and butter, Tav Pen.

You never know for sure with Ange he might just unleash Kyogo from the start?

God Bless Glasgow Celtic this holy Easter Sunday

    Hail Hail

  24. I have noticed a few references to OFFC`s `excellent` result on Thursday being a confidence booster for today`s game. Am I correct in thinking that not only did they not score for an hour against ten men but they actually went behind? Hardly a confidence booster.

  25. Hot Smoked……

    Good question.

For me, the pretence and collusion of the establishment confounds my fundamental beliefs in fairness and equality. That Scotland refused to let thems be seen to be dead makes me sad and resent the country of my birth.

  26. Had a lovely day in Edinburgh yesterday with my wife and daughter.

After our sensational meal at Dishoom and before we headed to the bus station for home, the girls decided we would have one for the road and went into Bread Street in St Andrews Square. Gordon Ramsay’s new gaff.

The girls have no hang ups regarding huns, as I do, so in we went.

£11.00 to £20.00 for a malt whsiky NIP!!!! Multiply that by the number of halfs in a bottle!

    Didn’t buy into that.

The place was dead and we waited 15 minutes for our cocktails.

So NO service charge of 12.5% was paid by this Tim!

The funny thing about this place is that all the female staff were tiny.

    Won’t be back.

  27. Last post bhoys before we head down to the pub at 12.

We concentrate on our own game and we win. Simples too classy for these cnuts.

Wee Riley will have to settle for watching it in my house with my nephew who has an assignment for uni tomorrow so is staying clear of the bevvy.

Stay safe everyone and enjoy the Hun Skelping that will ensue.
