Celtic need to learn resuscitation methods

980

Celtic have lost in the game immediately after three of their previous four European games, shipping nine points which could be crucial in determining the destination of the championship, so it was not surprising they were below par for much of the game yesterday.  Fortunately, the Aberdeen goal came early enough to allow Celtic time to raise their game and respond.

How Celtic respond after European games will become even more crucial in the weeks ahead as they have visits to Motherwell, Dundee United and St Johnstone due after our next three Europa League games.  Any slim championship aspirations will be extinguished in these games if Celtic are unable to improve performance for the league challenge.

Ally McCoist is defying early predictions and grinding out impressive results for Rangers, who will seldom have started the league with such an impressive defensive record.  Six away wins from six games without conceding a goal is the kind of form it takes to win leagues.

Our more immediate challengers, Motherwell, dropped two points on Saturday, meaning we can go two points clear of them if we win our game in hand, however, the teams meet at Fir Park a week on Sunday (three days after Celtic play Rennes), in what looks like being a key game in our season.

Didnt know that Gregory Du Pont had been released, under him Aiden added a yard of pace, the first time av ever seen a player actually get quicker.

Ah remember during Terry Cassidy’s time we hired a specialist for stretching an we had very few hamstring injuries, guy left after faw oot wae cassidy, often wondered what happened tae him.

Just focusing on our injury list, something isn’t right there either? Does anyone know if we have a fitness coach. Thanks Terry for your response.

“We didn’t qualify for Europe, and as such shouldn’t be there.”

Not true. We never got a chance to play a legal Sion FC so we were awarded a 6:0 win. Sion chose to play ringers, despite advance warning, and we should not have been placed in a position where we had to play 2 intensive games against a soon-to-be-banned team, risking injuries and suspensions to our squad.

You are right that Europa League participation makes winning the SPL harder. We have had 3 bad results following Europa league fixtures and 2 wins. If we followed your logic, though, we would be playing reserves in the SC and League Cup too because those fixtures get in the way of SPL success too.

But, it will be harder to attract better quality players without the lure of European ties and trophies so we will have to thole it and try to make the best of our success in qualifying for these tournaments.

Barcabhoy, Shane Long i thought cost over £6m and there would be on at least 35k per week. I have already stood corrected by Diawaras work permit situation.

Im not standing up for the board as i feel they should be doing a lot more, but Long is not the big target man most people crave. Would prefer to see the defense sorted out first.

The Green Brigade have a new song for Charlie Mulgrew.

The lyrics could equally apply to Darren.

So the Green Brigade can substitute his name in a extra verse of the song.

You are quick to dismiss a rumor as “not having an ounce of truth” because !its in the prospectus”.I can point to direct quotes from the manager and official company accounts to suggest what you are saying doesn’t have an “ounce of truth”.

We are all a bit over critical at the moment because of an accumulation of things.

At this stage clawing biting scratchin for a result has seen us come back fae the dead at Kilmarnock, comeback against Rennes and go on an beat Aberdeen after the deflation of an equaliser.

Before anyone says,ah know we want better but a victory on Wednesday however achieved is all am looking for.

I am a massive fan of Neil Lennon as a player and x- captain of Glasgow Celtic.

Am I a massive fan of Neil as a manager?

Nobody celebrated more than me when he was appointed. All my hope and good will was granted to this very fine man.

Now we seem to have reached a crossroads. It is the

    A/ The boards fault

    B/ The players fault

    C/ The managers fault

    D/ The coaches fault

    E/ The DD/PL regimes fault

Maybe time for someone to ask Neil Lennon who’s fault is it?

  11. Personally, I am glad we are playing in Europe.

Not being there at all would be embarrassing for a club like ours, and whilst yes it makes winning the league more difficult, well, we are Celtic, we should be able to cope.

I’d rather have Nancy Del Ollio in charge.

Sven has been kicked out of Notts County and Leicester recently.

His recent charges have had win rates of 42%, 46%, 40% and 43%.

He’s not the personality to manage Celtic either. Far too cold.

    You are talking sense.

We are where we are- 10 points behind a Rangers team who have not faltered much this season. We are not showing the improvement and dominance that we showed for 80% of last season.

Therefore, I am grateful for a victory, any victory, to stop the flow of dropped points. We were neither good nor disgraceful on Sunday. Uninspired and pedestrian mostly but far better than Aberdeen and deserving of the points which we achieved.

I would have been suspicious of a team that mixes very good performances with very bad ones. That would suggest to me that something is far wrong with the coaching. But where you see a gradual and slow improvement towards a more resilient defence and a more dynamic attack, it is more re-assuring evidence of training ground work being carried out correctly.

Only a run of wins will get us back to the kind of confidence/ arrogance that carries you through games when you are not at your best. And only a run of dropped points will introduce fear and doubt back into the Rangers’ players minds.

Until we play them next, we can only affect one of those variables.

Celtic need to go on a run of wins.

  20. Even as a Happyclapper I have to admit that recent form has not been good enough. What I find unacceptable though is the hysterical calls for Neil to be replaced.

Last year we all couldn’t wait to stand with him whilst he faced a barrage of abuse, intimidation and physical assault. This season he’s the “cheap option”, a “rookie who has no place learning his trade at our Club”. Neil has even been portrayed as some puppet of Desmond and Lawwell in their evil plot to bleed us dry and line their own pockets.

Neil Lennon has made mistakes there is no denying that but show me someone who doesn’t. Maybe some of the tactical experts on here might fancy forwarding their CV’s to PL and see if they can do as good a job at managing Celtic in real life as they seem to be able to do from the comfort of an armchair with a laptop or PC.

We have a problem with injuries at the moment, something the huns seem not to have, why could this be? Have the hun dotors suddenly discovered some secret formula which bestows unlimited health and fitness? Have Celtic forgotten all concepts of sports science? Or, maybe just maybe, the fact that our players are regularly booted up and down the pitch with little or no protection offered by the mibs contribute to our problems.

Will finish my aimless rant now as I have to go read my daughter her bedtime story.

  21. Malc… Sorry mate but I’m a bit more optimistic!

Down to 5 points …. They will eventually get injuries, suspensions, lose players jan and! There is3 derbies to play.

Thanks for posting at such a difficult time,

such was the strength and reputation of Joe Ive had texts and phone calls from Belfast and Glasgow from early doors this am passing on firstly the sad news and then other updates as the day went on,

for those who missed the posts last night I was only in Joes company for an hour and a half or so a few Saturday nights ago in Belfast when my wife and I (and 30 or so others from Glasgow) were over for a silver wedding do in the Roddys,

Staying at the Ibis we popped into Cosgroves for a quick pint and were met by this wee Glaswegian behind the Bar, within five minutes he knew who we were, where we were from, knew some of the guys from my local down the Gallowgate, knew my cousins from Glasgow and their trips to Belfast over the years, got the singer to blast out Viva La Quinta for me before we left, and then says “hope Big W********” enjoys his party” aye he knew him as well,

On leaving to get a taxi Joe fishes into a drawer behind the Bar and hands me a card for the Falls Rd CSC “anything you need while your here, just phone me, oh and Im in the morra am about 10 if you need a curer”

Sometimes in this life you meet people who go out of their way to make you feel welcome, nothing flashy, no harry big cigar, just honest decent nice people, that was my impression of Joe,

unfortunately that was the one and only time I saw or spoke to that Wee Man but he made a lasting impression on my wife and I, really I never knew him but on receiving the news this am I felt Id lost a pal, inexplicable I know but that was the feeling

My heart goes out to his family and friends here in Scotland and in the 32 Counties,

    Hail Hail Joe ONeill

  28. Vmhan – perhaps one day we will do something about the Board – it will take a revolution again I’m afraid

Notthebus – sigh – its not like us to disagree eh – of course NL will openly support DD. DD appointed NL, NL is in an incredibly weak position so he isnt going to criticise DD publicly. Good managers are smarter at getting their point across and fighting their cause (remember MoN’s incredibly prophetic life in the slow lane comment? Its part of our problem that they will never appoint a manager who will face up to the Board – in the end it costs them their jobs but no-one remembers why.

For the record I believe NL should resign and cite the incredible pressures heaped upon him last season – he has clearly lost his thunder. This isnt a criticism – I am not in the least bit surprised. When a whole nation consipires against you it gets pretty difficult to retain any heart.

  29. Barcabhoy

You are making the allegations, the burden of proof is on you.

Can you give me any legitimate quotes that come directly from Neil saying we had made a bid for Shane Long or Diawara.

However lets not be specific lets see a quote from Neil saying he doesn’t have the final say in buying players.Lets see a quote from Neil saying he is being undermined by his Directors.Lets see any quote from Neil that would help with your argument.None exist, nor as far as I am aware is their a shred of evidence elsewhere that would prove your allegations are true.

You are as entitled to your opinion as the next man and you may well be very well connected in Celtic circles, but unless you can substantiate your stories then I think you are doing a disservice to the office of the Celtic manager.
