Celtic need to learn resuscitation methods

980

Celtic have lost in the game immediately after three of their previous four European games, shipping nine points which could be crucial in determining the destination of the championship, so it was not surprising they were below par for much of the game yesterday.  Fortunately, the Aberdeen goal came early enough to allow Celtic time to raise their game and respond.

How Celtic respond after European games will become even more crucial in the weeks ahead as they have visits to Motherwell, Dundee United and St Johnstone due after our next three Europa League games.  Any slim championship aspirations will be extinguished in these games if Celtic are unable to improve performance for the league challenge.

Ally McCoist is defying early predictions and grinding out impressive results for Rangers, who will seldom have started the league with such an impressive defensive record.  Six away wins from six games without conceding a goal is the kind of form it takes to win leagues.

Our more immediate challengers, Motherwell, dropped two points on Saturday, meaning we can go two points clear of them if we win our game in hand, however, the teams meet at Fir Park a week on Sunday (three days after Celtic play Rennes), in what looks like being a key game in our season.

  1. Spend the money available on the manager …….The Manager is the most crucial appointment a football club can make, its not the ceo or the players for that matter a good manager will make average good and good great ,will win ,will generate income and enthusiasim will spot a player will know when to move players on etc , and on it goes , not rocket science at all ……..I`m afraid we have tried to do too much on the cheap which of course leads to mediocrity and frustration . Good stuff today on the blog very articulate views on both sides of the divide , what I think most of us do agree on though is the status quo is not going to win us the championship . HH

Agree entirely. The team plays for all the world as though they have no confidence in their coaches or what they are being told.

This is a good set of players who are underperforming. I hate to say it but that comes down to the coaching team.

  3. Well, I haven’t seen sundays action but reading back we must have been pretty grim again?

It will take a run of wins to bolster confidence in players and fans.

I share some of the concerns about the organisation of the team.

My glimmer of hope is that Oor Neil has had the team well organised in patches last season. They looked pretty organised in Rennes and also against Madrid despite our suicidal tendencies in defence. It’s our ability to cope with the unexpected that worries me too.

As I say, another 3 or 4 wins on the bounce and the confidence might come back. But when this eternal optimist and happy clapper is feeling edgy then it is time for the rest of you to reach for the valium……………..

Off oot to do something useful. Maybe pop in later.

Get yer ballot papers in on time…………………….

Scott Brown is not our saviour.

Sadly, nor is Neil. we need a change I’m afraid. Neill just does not look the same person who was so fired up for it last year and I can wholly understand why.

Time to look after yourself and family. Lenny and move on in the safe knowledge that you will forever be a Celtic great.

  7. Those hammering neil need to remember a couple of things.

    Injuries and lack of investment

Neil wanted Shane Long, who has been a terrific success at West Brom.

Neil wanted Diawara , who has been fantastic for Maritimo. He is the top scorer in Portugal and got the winner again yesterday for Maritimo.

Whilst we enjoy the debacle at Ibrox, lets remember the complete lack of progress at Celtic starts higher up the food chain than Neil.

  11. Carrigan its possible that the lethargy we can see is a result of the manager realising he’s been conned by the money men, he’s to win the league whilst the money men have slammed the door in his face.

I’d say NL and his management team are not on great terms with PL and DD ….. thats just my opinion mind, and the resulting negativity is apparent throughout the team. I hope I’m wrong about that, but for me its simple, the strategy since Seville is to downsize, we ain’t stopped going downward yet.

Our love of the club is gonnae be severely tested, supporting Celtic is what we do but to hell with this failed strategy.

  21. SFFS – The work permit myth is growing legs. Diawara wouldn’t get a work permit because we got one for Bangura. Celtic were basically told they would only get one permit, hence they had to choose which to sign. No surprise they chose the cheap one.

We wouldn’t have got a work permit for Diawara because we already got one for Bangura, it was one or the other and someone chose Bangura. They wouldn’t give work permits to 2 young strikers from Africa with little or no international experience

  24. Well ,lets look at our corner taking and defending because whatever the players are being told to do is not working.

Most of the corners when we are defending the opposition gets their head to the ball first and its the same when we are taking the corners the opposition are still getting to the ball first.

I would not be suprised if the board are at it.

I am a great believer in a 100% club membership so that we the fans run the club, at least we can blame ourselves if things go wrong.
