Celtic need to learn resuscitation methods

980

Celtic have lost in the game immediately after three of their previous four European games, shipping nine points which could be crucial in determining the destination of the championship, so it was not surprising they were below par for much of the game yesterday.  Fortunately, the Aberdeen goal came early enough to allow Celtic time to raise their game and respond.

How Celtic respond after European games will become even more crucial in the weeks ahead as they have visits to Motherwell, Dundee United and St Johnstone due after our next three Europa League games.  Any slim championship aspirations will be extinguished in these games if Celtic are unable to improve performance for the league challenge.

Ally McCoist is defying early predictions and grinding out impressive results for Rangers, who will seldom have started the league with such an impressive defensive record.  Six away wins from six games without conceding a goal is the kind of form it takes to win leagues.

Our more immediate challengers, Motherwell, dropped two points on Saturday, meaning we can go two points clear of them if we win our game in hand, however, the teams meet at Fir Park a week on Sunday (three days after Celtic play Rennes), in what looks like being a key game in our season.

  1. Che – you have hit the nail firmly on the head with this.

But you canny have your empire biscuit and eat it, if politics is to play no part at Celtic Park, then its all politics

The giving of money to the poppy charity is a political act. Its not the first time PL has been contradictory eh? This is part of a general trend in western politics whereby you must agree with the party line or be outcast. And its down to those in power to agree what the party line is. This is about to be enshrined in Scottish law with the new sectarian law. The SNP and police will decide what is acceptable and what is illegal.

    Scary huh!

The only fact concerning me right now is that we are 3Rd in the SPL…

Enough HUN chat..I catch myself getting dragged in to it..

CQN. The clue is in the C!

  3. I didn’t want to start a poppy debate, far from it, my thinking was more along the lines of the current probs the hun are facing, and the fact that they will publicly have to match it, or not.

    Nothing political.

  4. Weeminger – sorry but you are splitting hairs. The ONLY person who calls the shots at CP is DD. Sure he may not technically own all the shares etc – but he controls the club completely and absolutely. Are you actually denying that? Feels like you are dangerously close to using FACT here? :)

Well,at least I didnae start the poppy debate this time!

FWIW,I donate a certain amount to the appeal every year,as I have no reason not to donate to such a worthwhile cause.

Most of us will have had family members who suffered. Those who need help deserve our help,IMO.

HAVING SAID THAT,I DO NOT AGREE WITH DISPLAYING THE POPPY ON OUR SHIRT

It is a stick with which to beat us,and I’m delighted that the board have nipped it in the bud.

And put the onus on CW who will no doubt say that the establishment club are above disclosing these things.

  6. Anyone else concerned with the number of injuries our players seem to pick up in training? I’m not talking about the Kris Commons saga but the fact Bangura is away for a knee scan and it seems everyweek we have players injured in training.

  8. If Rangers do go into administration and relaunch as Rangers 2 or suchlike I assume their history is wiped so no more of the “most successflu club in the world” nonsense. Also I am assuming they would need a new name and badge, which delights me considering the amount of they neanderthals bedecked in Rangers tattoos.

  9. There will be no Christmas presents bought in the Celtic shop for family this year, and I have a large family, several hundreds of pounds usually. Not a penny more.Slan

  10. Paul,

Assuming that you have his ear, could you ask PL to give a straight answer to a straight question.

That is. If Scottish football is in such dire straits, how with all our financial shrewdness, are we continually second best. And don’t let us kid ourselves, we are a pretty poor second best.

  11. Unconfirmed reports that Mario Balotelli is driving around Manchester city centre in his convertible Bentley with the top down, music blaring, car bedecked in City scarves high-fiving City fans. Hope this is true.

  13. Ten Men Won The League on

CELTIC’S Development Squad drew 0-0 with a strong and experienced Rangers side this afternoon, (Monday), at Lennoxtown Training Centre.

The young Hoops team consisted of eight players from the Under-19s, Thomas Rogne, a trialist and Dominic Cervi in goals, while Rangers fielded several first-team players including Neil Alexander, Kirk Broadfoot and Juan Ortiz.

Celtic dominated proceedings and were unfortunate not to find a winner, especially late in the second-half when captain, Marcus Fraser, cracked the ball off the post.

But despite being unable to break the deadlock, the home side were strong in defence and Rangers found it difficult to create many chances.

Coach, Stevie Frail was delighted with the result. “I’m really pleased,” he exclusively told the official website. “Rangers fielded a really experienced team with guys like Healy, Alexander, Broadfoot, Fleck, Ortiz and McKay.

“We had nine Under-19s starting the game. It was virtually the team that played against Manchester City last week.

“The only changes were Dominic Cervi who replaced Robbie Thomson, and a trialist who came in for the injured Filip Twardzik. So we were really pleased with the level of performance and the way in which they played.”

He believes a lot of the confidence being showed right now is down to a number of reasons, but mainly from their 4-2 victory in the NextGen Series and the recognition the players have been getting for it at the top level.

“There’s a lot of confidence in the squad,” he said. “Five of them travelled to Rennes for last week’s game and two of them got on to the bench.

“Dylan McGeouch was on the bench on Sunday too against Aberdeen so they’re getting a lot of confidence from that as well.”

And based on this afternoon, and the previous NextGen games, Frail expects the players to take a lot from these experiences.

“Marcus hit the post and Tony had a chance where he chose to pass instead of take the shot. I think we would have deserved the win if we’d got it,” he continued.

“But these games are all about development and their level of performance against top, top players.

“They will take a lot from this afternoon, and it goes on top of not just the Manchester City game but the Marseille and Barcelona games too, even though we lost those.

“They know the level of performance expected of them and they need to keep showing that because there is still another step-up from that level and the first-team.

“Hopefully they can impress the manager enough, and he feels secure enough to put them into his team.”

CELTIC: Cervi; Miller, Fraser, Rogne (Chalmers), Trialist (P. Twardzik); Herron, Irvine, McGeouch, McGregor, George, Watt

Like yourself I have no problem with poppy wearing or collections. When all is said and done UK veterans are not particularly well treated and they need all the help on offer. Despite all the pious cant about our ‘brave boys’ the same ‘brave boys’ are much more likely to end up in prison or homeless than those in the general population.

What remains loathsome is the rhetoric that implies that anyone uttering even a hint of criticism of the army or its wars is labelled a member of the enemy within. The poppy has become a loyalty test.

Hi Ghuys, Salve salve;- After the Dandy Dons scored yesterday, I thought the response for the next 15 mins was amongst the best we have played this sorry season, we got off our backsides and worked a bit. That is one of the main differences between us and our friends from the southside, they work the full 90 mins, also they have a system of play that is simple and they stick to it whereas we? well let’s say the league table does not lie.

Anyhoo solutions to problems, well I tried to post along these lines some while back but most of the post turned left at the Hubble telescope and was never seen again, so here is a precis

Problem:- Our Ceo and or owner are not swayed by our desire for a better on field product

Reason:- they are not swayed is they have all the votes at AGM etc

Problem :- They will not be deflected by the wishes of the support.

Reason:- They place fiscal policy above football policy

Solutions:- The majority of club income is derived from SB sales and merchandise

Strategy :- Fans should start preparing for next season now by organising representatives; Blogs, Supporters trust Associations etc.

Through the above, an account should be set up and all SB monies should be paid into it, the appointed representatives should then negotiate with the CEO as to how the money will be spent ie strengthen the team and if the club do not do this, then the monies should be returned to the fans and they should pay at the gate for entry to games they may wish to see. It is the only way I can see that will lead to our asperations being met. BTW I am not advocating the fans become involved in the recruitment selection process

  20. Celtic and Poppy sctoland have acted very quickly to ensure there is no repeat of the poppy debate here on CQN.

Its done – the £10,000 is paid. – get over it, or just copy and paste last years comments, so you dont waste any more of your time on it.

To keep the higher ground, its a game we must play.

There will be no poppy on the celtic shirt this season. The majority of fans will be happy at this. Celtic support the charity by cash and not by showing the poppy on our shirts.

    The end.

Sorry bhoys had to do some work (is it only me or does work get in the way)

I like being solvent – so I like the financial situation our club is in – and boys be clear its a good place to be

But there is no doubt that we are not taking advantage of our strong financial position – on this there is no doubt

I end up questioning NL – simply because we have been playing bad – very bad with the players available

I think we are punching below our weight (I think THEY are punching above their weight)

But before we get to them – we cant beat Kilmarnock Hearts St Johnstone Sion Rennes Atletico M Udinese

Motherwell are outperforming us in the league (I know its early)

So before we sack the board and spend “your” money and end up in debt – lets make sure the manager knows what to do

At the minute I dont have faith in NL to win the league even if we spent £10m in Jan

    The tactics are not right

The attitude of the team is not right

The fitness levels are not right

    The defending is not right

its a noble plan but it wont work, they wont spend money they dont have. all it will mean is that the “on field product” will be worse.

for them to do anything else will mean a change in the business plan that they are sticking so rigidly to at the moment (regardless of whats happening with the others) its extremely unlikely that we’ll see any cahnge in strategy when scottish football is on its erse, there is a very real danger that we’re about to enter another stage of the recession and even more importantly we might be looking at years of football without the huns in the top tier. going further into debt just isnt an option at the moment.
