Celtic planning now clear as season opens up

1028

There was an unusual reaction at full time last night.  Some attempted to boo, but the applause from the majority in the crowd soon drowned them out.  Not all defeats are the same, this one came after one of our best performances of the season, against an undoubtedly better team.

It was important to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League.  Bereft of domestic competition, Celtic need to test their abilities against top teams, they need to be stretched, forced to defend for long periods, parts of the game which simply never happen in Scotland.

It’s also important to see tangible signs of improvement.  Those four weeks of summer, which saw defeats twice to Legia, to Maribor and Inverness, were signs of a team in crisis.  They cost us Champions League football, and revenue, but finishing our Europa League group in second place behind Salzburg is the top end of where we expected to be three months ago.

I’m not happy with this morning’s line that we qualified thanks to the result in Romania; we qualified because we collected eight points from our opening four games, including a highly respectable draw in Salzburg.  Win, lose or draw last night, the qualification work had been done.  We can now start planning for the second half of the season.

Those three months since the summer crisis passed with only one defeat, an ultimately costless, if embarrassing, reversal at home to Hamilton.  We can afford a similar episode on the next three months, but not this Sunday.  The visit to Tynecastle is our most important game in the next two months, considerably more so than last night’s.

Commons and Forrest return to full fitness will be closer, while it would be good to see Denayer and Lustig available again.

It was kind of Rangers International to publish their accounts as a pick-me-up for us when we got home last night.  More tomorrow, if we have time.

Shocked and stunned at the news Roy Keane has chucked it at Aston Villa.  No way did I ever see his appointment as assistant to Paul Lambert looking like a pointless distraction so quickly.  Next time we appoint a manager, cut the lines to Barbados and keep Martin’s mobile engaged!

  1. Rob cfc,

The last line was meant for anyone who yearns for the return of that game. There is nothing good that can come from it. The standard of football produced is not progressive as we get sucked into the kicking match. People would rather watch that over positive modern football against quality European competition that is fairly refereed and then commented on. We will get kicked up and down the park, refused penalties and decisions and the press will wash over that with the motivation of their sad wallets thickening.

I think that’s the issue too

Buying a company with its own money

Yep, fairly straightforward , all the stuff on the Clyde website is just a load of old rubbish.

Whyte’s argument would surely be that he was funding a NEW company with future assets?

Then it come sdown to what entities were incorporated at the time to facilitate the transfers and if he’s got his dates of incorporation right. I can’t remember if he just walked in and ‘took over’ Rangers as it stood, or if by legal definition, a new entity headed by Whyte ‘purchased’ the huns.

It’s all in the paperwork I suspect.

With any luck Craigy’s also got some choice negotiating material which will shut the LIAR Minty up and deter his witness box presence as a ‘duped’ victim.

  5. BCW that may be better cos I think our biggest problem is when the other team have the ball we have too many midfielders who think they’re forwards and don’t work back. Mulgrew would probably work harder at that than Tonev.

  6. CW didn’t buy RFCil with Ticketus money. Murray sold them for a quid and a promise.

The actual financial transaction was for 1GBP.

And still the huns can’t see who sold them out!

  7. Reading back over the last few hours, I was sorry to hear that MT’s son’s case had not come to court yet. I will try to keep up the prayers and thoughts on that one.

Elsewhere someone raised the question of the cost to the tax payer of this decision to defer the case to a later date. The question goes further methinks. How much money has the introduction of the OB act cost taxpayers, especially since so many cases have been thrown out of court?

Further question, if as Campbell is alleged to have stated, MPs were working behind the scenes at Westminster to influence the taxman, did this actually take place, has it resulted in no decision so far and are these MPs justified in taking this action for a vested interest, again at the expense of tax payers?

Strange that Police Scotland found Whyte in Mexico when most of the time they cannot find people they are looking for in this country. Surely this search must have been of greater importance to the nation in the opinion of certain people?

HT have a good day in Liverpool. Who are you supporting dare I ask?

In Belfast for hopefully a great wee swally over the next couple of days.

Quick bite to eat, then up to Solitude to watch Cliftonville.

Few pints in the social club beforehand.Looking forward to it!

  9. If anyone is in the shopping centre at East Kilbride over the next few hours – pop into Waterstones and say hello to BRTH who is there talking Tosh with the ex- Celtic full back…

  10. Good morning bhoys and ghirls

Last night, I fell down an electronic rabbit hole, and ended up in the land of CQN moonhowlers. While there, there was some splendid music played. During that time, I was described as ACGR as “second only to Corkcelt as the most sensible blogger on this blog.”

Then ACGR said he had met the said Corkcelt, and I was in fact the most sensible…

Now my immediate reaction was “quite the honour, but wait til those who know me better read this… they will laugh until they cry, as they see me as many things, but sensible is not one of them …. my habit of stripping after drinking rootbeers (my younger wilder days), or my current party piece at family get togethers (the Pussy Cat Dolls’ Dont you Wish Your Girlfriend was Hot like Me’ – with the original choreography … although I’m having to scale that back abit … I turned 49 today, and the sore back and all, you know?…) surely would paid to that.

And I assumed that, moonhowlers being moonhowlers, lead very different lives than the morning shift CQN’ers, and when morning came around, the notion would be ‘poo poo’d and it would be pointed out that there are several more saintly morning CQN’ers much more deserving of such an honour than I… which made me sad, but I accepted that such sic transit gloria mundi …

But, I was nonetheless strutting around here, rather enjoying my new found status (walking on the couch, roaring like a lion, even jumping on the bed (the mrs. was on call, so I could get away with it) ….much to the bemusement of my long suffereing golden retriever, who kept raising one eyebrow as if to say ‘give us piece, I’m trying to sleep ya big numpty) …. when ….

AT 3:12, the esteemed BRTH (great music last night, by the way …. really loved the Raghu Dixit bit, thank you!!) suggested that this may not, in fact, be the honour that I had thought (I think he ‘thenk christ, someone had once posted the same about him…’.) and he seemed quite chuffed that someone had taken this ‘honour’ from him ….

Now, I assume that moonhowlers, being moonhowlers, are very different animals from normal CQN society, and understand that they lead different lives, and seem to speak an entirely different language from normal (daytime) CQN’ers ….

so, now I’m wondering if (i) the sensible things still applies , (ii) if, in moonhowler terms, it is a compliment, or the most heinous of insults, and (iii) if the latter, do I need a good lawyer to sort these moonhowlers out? or will that likely seek to an all out barnie .. or, god forbid, the dread CQN schism of 2014 … I still recall the ‘CQN almost civil war of 2010 between happy clappers and moonshafters – and swore I’d never go back to those dark, dark days) ….

but in my world, a slight (if it is indeed a slight) cannot go unanswered!

Thoughts? (other than, isn’t it 7:25 in the morning there? Is Mike drunk?)

Yer normal-apart from the sobriety thing-and a great guy as yer lovely surgeon no doubt takes a great delight in telling you.

    Well,exceptional probably!

Don’t draw comparisons wi us overnight eejits,we’re only allowed out on occasion.

  13. 2 quick points. First we have only lost one match in our group in Europe, a fantastic achievement that looked beyond us at draw of groups. Secondly, has compliance officer contacted rangers bout comments from daly accusing hearts of cheating or about the 2 rangers players diving or is it still diff rules for them?

  14. I’ve seen various press articles in the last few days where RD is saying ( and I paraphrase) he recognises he needs to be less idealistic,

He also claimed to be a quick learner.

Tomorrow will be a good judgement day as to whether he has actually taken on board the learning or is it simply more guff.

Hertz will be well up for tomorrow, they will be fit, well organised and have a gameplan.

Our job is very simple – score 1 goal, and stop them scoring.

We don’t need to worry about pressing high up the pitch, expending lots of energy or any other tripe, we simply need to score a goal.

  15. BWCUW

So, I should call off the hit? Wonder if I can get my money back?

And will you tell the Mrs. that I am a great guy? She just laughs when I tell her?

Must say, the night crowd on here (and I often see them because of the time difference) are a fun bunch – daft as a brush, but a fun bunch!. I’ve learned about some seriously great music from them …. already loaded Mr. Dixit onto my ipod. Brilliant stuff.

Hope all is well with you.

I know the football isn’t quite what we had hoped yet, but I am getting excited about Celtic in general again, and tomorrows game in particular. Think Hearts will be well up for it, and it should be a great cup tie.

The Trashies have been my favourite band since I first heard them in 1990. ( my e-mail addy is the name of their 1st hit”!) I did the “Pledge Music” thingy for their new album too. They managed to get 100% of their target, so, hopefully, a new album in the New Year!

It is the original purchase of Rangers where Craigy bought Rangers with their own money.

  22. Mighty Tim. I think my bhoy had seven scheduled court appearances over a year and a bit before they threw the case out. Waste of taxpayers money and another way to ensure maximum hassle. They will be hoping you get peed off and change the plea to guilty.

Interesting quotes from a newspaper article reporting on the Huns tour of the North of Ireland with a begging bowl just after they went into administration in 2012

:-“A number of Wilson’s former political allies from the Progressive Unionist Party were at Wednesday’s meeting, along with leading figures from other unionist parties, including Gregory Campbell and Danny Kennedy.Campbell let the meeting into a secret

    – that a Rangers supporters club set up by MPs at Westminster has been working quietly behind the scenes to help Rangers.
