There isn’t much that the club can do now with regards to Ki,we have to sell because his contract is nearly running out, however he should still be sold for nothing less than £8million,maybe hold out for £10million.
Both 67 & wee Matthews are a different kettle of fish though, they are both nailed down on relatively long-term contracts.Celtic hold all the aces with regards to those two.
We are going to dig our heals in here, pay the true value of our footballers,or else gtf.And if they are not happy – they can warm the bench,or go and play in the development squad – it’s doesn’t matter to us sure, they are young enough to play in that team, plus i dare say they are not big earners. It’s their call.
And Lenny is the very man whom will ensure that our club will not be ripped off.

Hi BRTH,
I remember my Dad telling us about the PoW game, he did indeed play in it and the players were piped onto the pitch with a lot of Irish tunes being belted out by the locals as the teams were escorted through the streets of Duntocher.
I believe it was after hostilities ceased and the PoW were to be repatriated shortly thereafter. I think it ended in a draw but remember most that my Dad said it was a carnival atmosphere. Great to meet you last night and hope to keep in touch. Cheers PB

I have no knowledge of the game you refer to, although I would imagine that it would be a distinct possibility. Where I did see the POWs play was at the school park on Clyde St., behind OHR ‘chapel’. They came down on the wee single-deck tram & were unescorted, which now seems strange.
They played a local Bisley Corner select & it was all very relaxed & good natured.
I believe a few of the German guys stayed on after the the war.
Can’t really pinpoint the date for you but it is something that has always stuck in my memory.
Not sure if Charlie played but there were at least 3 or 4 McGinley’s in the Clydebank Hibs team around that time who would have been the nucleus of any Bisley select.

Yes it was great to meet you too.
Yes your dad did play in it– that is partly why I am looking into this– because my dad played in the game too!!
Not only were the team piped on to the pitch, the Band started playing at the bottom of Kilbowie Road and the team and the crowd apparently marched all the way up to Duntocher!!!
Spoke to my dad today and he was delighetd that we had met.
He was telling me what a good player your dad was, and that he was very unlucky with injuries. He had a great partnership with Hughie Long.
He also had a great success against Willie Woodburn and ran him ragged– and Woodburn was considered the best centre half in the country.
You mentioned last night that Celtic signed quite a few Boys Guild players at the time. I think that included Alec Bodin and one of the Hammill brothers as a potential goalkeeper— although I don’t think that he got a look in as Celtic has the amazing Wille Miller and Rolando Ugolini at the time.
Any info I get I will pass on.
Cheers– and well done on the golf!!!

Thanks for that– I will check that with my old man.
He recalls playing up at Glenhead…. marking a dark skinned guy who locals referred to as “Sabu” after the Indian Film star of that name. Apparently the guy wore a hair net when playing and was pretty quick.
My old man was a “clugger” and did a “Yogi Hughes” on him which slowed him down a fair bit.
However, as the POW’s were popular with a lot of local folk — my grandad told my dad to take his time getting changed because some were none too pleased at the way he had been kicking poor “Sabu” up and down the park!!!
Yes I think a lot did stay on after the war.

Can I recommend the 62 to Baillieston for your evening entertainment ( aka the Fenian bus ). Only £1.85 from Glasgow city centre to Baillieston and for 30 minutes you get magnificent entertainment.
Tonight’s entertainment included the regular drunk, the woman who wet herself and the driver being asked if he was “wan a the mcgoldrick boyes”, by a wee wifey who had had too many sherries.
Priceless.
