if you look at post 600 you’ll see I praise him for his performances in qualification for ECL last season, that was his one and only highlight from his career
that doesn’t justify the kind of money £20k+ per week he’ll get in other countries, only a truly special player deserves £20k+ per week to play against Ross County and Dundee and Sammi isn’t such a player.
Entering my row of seats, I say to the old Bhoy near the end, he needs to stop coming into game so early, as I keep making him get up when I come in, and he’s enjoying his pie and Bovril
So Daughter missed the paradise windfall by 4 tickets, not to worry,
Would easily match his goal tally in the CL and League.
We would be able to drop the long diagonal ball to Sammi in Europe and play on the deck.
Best wishes Sammi.

We re in danger of letting our unconscious bias against the board drive this one.
Style of play, lack of consistency, new challenge after 6 years, cost of contract and what we can do with the budget elsewhere all points to a no brainer once it was clear sammys reps couldn’t strike an increase.
Thanks for the memories. Let’s do better in the transfer market as a legacy to the Greek god

I think we are largely in agreement, but every deal in football is a gamble. Had Sammi been given a new contract and failed to deliver, we would have been stuck with him. Not saying that would have been the case by the way, but you never know how things develop.
I’m glad he has left Celtic on a high. I know Sammi loved the club. I hope he gets a good deal after the World Cup.

You’re right that it’s a gamble.
I heard Neil mentioning that he has never been in Murrayfield but may play a few pre-season friendlies before the CL qualifiers.
Are they planning to instal/lay a new pitch before we go there?
If not they better buy the team boots that Mick Jones, the Leeds centre forward used to wear:-)

Believe. Infer. Know.
All depends which lens you are looking through.
If you think Peter Lawwell decides which players Celtic sign, Sammi’s news is all the proof you were ever waiting for.
If you think the notion that an Accountant applying a decisive quality assessment to football players is little more than an absurd rumour, you’ll come to a different view.
Same information; different conclusion.
Mine? PL sets the budget for wages and player purchases for the coming period, Lenny prioritises and adjusts his targets in this context. Lenny didn’t want to blow a significant chunk of his budget on a specialist player.

How many games did Sammi start this season ? In the Scottish Premier League !
And he was poor in Europe this season,
yes good the year prior
Celtic style of play is changing, and look at the teams Neil is picking, how often do we start without Sammi ?
Now, should we be spending over £1million per season on a bit part player
Thanks for your time with us Sammi, and good luck in the future

Over his years as a CFC player I have had no reason to question Sammi …
If Sammi is one of our better players how come he’s only started 10 league games this season, came on as a sub in another 9 and not appeared at all in half (19) league games?

I don’t want to sound like an echo chamber in here but others have made a clear case as well as me for seeing that Sammy wasn’t a priority in terms of the budget required to keep the love affair going.
That doesn’t mean to say he leaves with fond memories and a huge thanks but our limited pot needs to be prioritised, and like everyone else I’m hoping for a better hit rate on incomings than we got last summer.
I always get concerned about subjects cast up to divide us a support when it’s a bit of a non-event. This stuff will dominate the MSM this week as they hate the ongoing success of the club and will do everything to undermine it.

NL: Sorry George, but negotiations are above my pay grade.

i well remember Sammi’s first goal for us v Killie. . A mazy run from his own half and a cool finish. I thought then we had signed a player.
Since then he has delighted and frustrated me in equal measure, but I am very sorry to see him go. Too many foreign players see Celtic as a stepping stone to the EPL but not Sammi.
He had sampled EPL life with Man city but realised that Celtic are quite unique and special.
I wish him all the best and would be delighted to see him back one day.

I think that’s a simplification.
No contract offer was agreed upon.
Neil from his quotes thinks its poor asset management. That would indicate to me that he wants to keep him but Sammi thinks he is worth more than the club is prepared to offer. A negotiation that Neil Lennon is not involved in according to Neil.
The only way IMHO that your assessment stands up is if NL has say on wage structure. Which as you have stated is set by PL.
My take is that NL is operating in ever decreasing circles regarding salary levels and transfer levels and authority over who stays and who comes in and how much they are paid.
Or are we really down to the one season project plan ? I would hope we have longer term planning but Sammis assest management was poorly managed. Neil Lennon quotes 5m for a suitable replacement. A quote said when Sammi was a free agent.

Agree 100% on your comment! and bit part was a poor choice of words for Sammi,
But
Sentiment and reasoning for letting him go remains, as put by Kayal33, started only 10 games this season, in the SPFL
That alone does not warrant over £1 million per year for any player – agreed ?
In my opinion only
Celtics long term is more important to me than any single player
