    Great CQN article on John Fallon ~ belated happy birthday wishes to a wonderful Celtic legend.

    One issue though with this line “A crowd of 108, 800 joined in the celebrations.

    – should read ” a crowd of 108,880″

    Sandinista by The Clash is the best recording of 36 songs on the one album you will ever hear. Just listened again tonight. Magic.

    I’m sure I’m not alone in saying I had my doubts about Leigh Griffiths.

    Not about his ability to score goals, but his general attitude towards what constitutes a professional football player.

    Well, not any more…………

    “It’s all about what the manager thinks on Wednesday afternoon when he names the team. If I am not in it I will give my full support to Nadir. He will no doubt do a job for the team and I’ll be ready if I am needed to come on.

    “It’s disappointing when you score a goal and the big games come around and you are on the bench. I just have to bide my time. If I am involved, then great. If not, I will support Nadir.”

    I think the Griff deserves to start v. Malmo.

  4. 16 roads – Celtic über alles… on 17th August 2015 1:30 am –

    I was told in the office next day that the area was popular with “West Brits” and the pretentious RTE crowd.

    I had to have West Brit explained.

  5. Thanks for all that are coming over. I am sure you all know, Dublin postcodes work like this. All of the even numbers are Southside, the odd are Northside, So D2,or 4 are south, whereas D1, or 5 are north.

    There is a new system but that’s another story.

    Morning,all.

    All this speculation about Jason Denayer returning,I must admit I’ll be most surprised were it to happen.

    And delighted,of course!

    Two flies in the ointment though,either of which could scupper it. Firstly,he is regarded in UEFA terms as a home-grown player,and Man City are woefully short of them. Secondly,Jason himself may feel he has done enough to warrant a first-team place at City.

    Inour favour is that if he is wrong,bang goes his new-found place in the Belgium team. And the finals are next summer!

  8. Took this from Newsnow Celtic, regarding our new player.

    RONNY DEILA last night revealed Celtic had been chasing Scott Allan since last year and the manager knew even then that he wanted to sign the midfielder.

    The Parkhead boss predicted a bright future for the 23-year-old midfielder at the club following his much talked about transfer on Friday.

    Allan was greeted by a standing ovation when he took a bow before Saturday’s win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle and was mobbed by autograph hunters outside the stadium.

    Deila was clearly delighted a deal was done with Hibs and now he can’t wait to work with a player he has long admired.

    The Celtic manager said: “We first watched Scott last year. We saw him several games and I have team around me who knows Scottish football very well so we have known about him for a while.

    “Scott will bring technique, creativity and understanding. He can see the final pass. You need that technique in the final third of the pitch.

    “He has that and I’m looking forward to working with him.

    “I don’t know Scott very well, but we had a good conversation and he seems mature and is really motivated to start his Celtic career.”

    In his brief speech to the support on Saturday, Allan said that joining Celtic in football terms was a “no-brainer.”

    Deila said: “That is a good line, a good way to put it. That tells us that he really, really wants to play for Celtic.

    “We shall see when he plays. We will take it day-by-day. Scott has to get to know the environment, get training and then the games will come.”

    Allan will not be the last piece of business done by Celtic in the final weeks of the transfer window.

    The club have had Sébastien Pocognoli watched, a Belgian left-back who in on the fringes of the West Brom squad.

    Emilio Izaguirre has played better recently that he did last season, but the position remains one Deila believes has to be strengthened.

    Pocognoli, 28, has 13 caps for his country but has fallen out of the picture at The Hawthorns. He is available for a modest fee.

    Another area the Norwegian will look at is that in the last three Ladbrokes Premiership games his team have allowed previous high standards to slip.

    They conceded two late goals to an Inverness team who had not been in the game at all at the weekend, and while this is not a huge disaster, it is something that will be discussed ahead of the Malmo match in Glasgow on Wednesday night.

    Deila said: “For us, it is just about being switched on for 90 minutes because if we do then it is very difficult to beat us.

    “Saturday was as good as we have played in that 70 minute spell. I was irritated after the Kilmarnock game, but we were not sloppy at the weekend, it was just a case of us not doing the easy things well. It was a terrific performance.”

    Deila was delighted with two-goal Stuart Armstrong who played arguably his best game for the club in the 4-2 win.

    He will definitely start against the Swedes as will most of the eleven who began the Inverness match.

    Deila said: “Stuart was quick against Inverness. I think he showed that it was good for him to get a rest during the week. That made him even better, he was really good.

    “There could be changes but a lot of the players who started on Saturday will play against Malmo.”

    Allan, who will today speak to the media about his move, admitted he was blown away by the reaction given to him by the Celtic fans.

    Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “Walking down the tunnel gives you goosebumps, just seeing the size of the stadium,.

    “Now I just can’t wait to go out and perform. It was an unbelievable experience. It was an emotional experience. It was different class.

    “I want to concentrate on my football and become a better player and I want to develop and get myself into the starting line-up.

    “It was a no brainer coming here. It’s a huge club, playing in the Premiership again and on the European stage and it is a chance to play and train with great players.

    “I just want to thank the Celtic supporters for my welcome and I want them to know I’ll always remember it. Now I can hopefully give them some good moments on the pitch.

    “I know quite a few of the boys really well so that’ll help me settle in and they seem like a good squad of boys too.

    “When you’ve got a manager who wants to develop you and make you better then you want to work hard for them.

    “That’s what I had for Alan Stubbs and hopefully Ronny Deila can do the same. I spoke to the manager yesterday and he said he was delighted to have me on board and I just said I was looking forward to working with him and developing as a player.”

    Gordon Smith should be pulled up for his irresponsible comments about Scott Allen. How this guy got the top Sfa job really tells you what they’re about. Total imposter.

    Sportscene last night stooped to another low point with a cheap dig at Celtic. They can’t help themselves.

  24. There might just be a chance of getting Jason Denayer back, as Kompany seems to have rediscovered his form, after a poor (by his standards) last season. Denayer is class, as we all know.

  25. Morning all,

    Last two weeks at this job before leaving for pastures new. You’d link I would be winding down – wrong. Will miss the Malmo game traveling back from meetings.

    I’ll get my revenge when I leave all my handover files in folders with slightly misspelled names.

    Revenge is a dish best served feebly…

  26. mullet and co 2 on

    Keith Jackson says Scott Allan signed for the same money on offer as at Sevco. He has more chance of a game at centre half though Celtic will prob sell someone in midfield so that would take care of that. He’s best pals with a Sevco director.

    I’m surprised Keith can type with lumber drum at his chist.

  27. BT,

    Just read the article about your Dad and realised he was the goalie in, what is for me, the most important win in our history, the 65 Final. Brilliant. Will never ever forget the feeling I had at the final whistle.

    Beautiful morning here in the Highlands.

    Hopefully a portent of a good week ahead.

    I just finished my job of 13 years on Friday. Had a serious health issue just over a year ago.

    Went back to work about 6 months ago, but didn’t work out.

    Have spent the last 35 years looking forward to waking up on a Monday without having to go to work ,But Mrs Hunderbirds just went back to work after her 30 weeks school holidays,

    And it just feels weird, what’s that all about?

  33. Who do you think you are kidding Mr Celtic, if you think the huns are done? on

    Dear CQN – I’m a close friend of the poster KEVJUNGLE.

    +++

    Kevin can’t come onto the blog at the minute. though he has asked me to convey a much delayed thank you for all your concerns and that, he wishes you all the best of luck especially Paul 67 for making all of this and so much more possible.

    +++

    Kevin was admitted to Monklands Hospital in January of this year for a bowel scan to test for cancer. Kevin had a lump the size of a mushroom removed at that time and, as a result he lost a lot of blood and was kept in over night.

    +++

    Kevin was released from Hospital the next day and was given assurances that, this removal was part of the norm and was told that there were no issues that would cause any concern from both the medical team at the Hospital then, also a week later from his own G.P.

    +++

    So, Kevin and his family thought nothing more than, to get on with life.

    +++

    Then – fast-forward – to late June / July this year when, a phone call to Kevin’s home which he took himself from a, Consultants secretary from the hospital with the news that there had been some sort of mix-up with the procedure and that, Kevin had to attend the hospital the next day and, the Consultant told Kevin and his wife Patricia that, the lump that was removed in January was in fact cancerous after being examined by a team of professors in Dundee.

    +++

    Another twist, this information about the removal of the mushroom sized cancerous lump had been left lying on another Consultants desk since March this year.

    +++

    Kevin was summoned to go through a series of internal examinations, scans etc with the heavily weighted fear that the invader had spread to Kevin’s lungs and liver.

    +++

    Fortunately, Kevin doesn’t drink or smoke and is in good general health, the Consultant told the family that this has been crucial.

    +++

    Kevin will be kept under watch whilst the invader is in remission. He will be called for regular check ups to ensure prompt treatment should the invader return.

    +++

    Kevin has pointed out to me that, a lot of Celtic fans on here might be inclined to offer prayers but, he has asked that if you do pray, please direct these to his wonderful wife Patricia and, his equally wonderful son, Dominic whom he calls – “The two children of God in my life.”
