Ziggydoc1, my memory of Charlie’s goal in that 5 aside tournament is the same. I always tried to score a goal like that myself when I played 5’s but never could.

Southampton had a strong squad at the tournament but I can’t remember if Kevin Keegan played. Our squad was Latchford for England, Willies McStay and Garner, Danny Crainie, Charlie Nick and John Weir.

John Motson called Willie Garner , Billy . during our games.

People who just want to go to the blog can click on the top article heading text on smart phones or the top left article on tablets or desktops and this will take you to Paul’s latest post and the first page of comments. You can click on the last number to get to the most recent comments.

The site is running slow at the moment due to the traffic it is now attracting. On Friday CQN had just under 30,000 unique users. That is a significant difference from say a month ago.

The MSM had no real idea on the transfer story. CQN was better informed and for the first time maximised the QUICK news element. This is only the beginning.

The site has been professionally designed.

The photographs are of the highest standard.

The articles are usually not too bad.

However for those only wanting to use the blog none of this needs to get in the way.

    Harryhoodsdugbitme said at 1.26pm today:

” I like what you have done to the site. It’s not a blog anymore but instead it’s a super highway more fitting of our standing.”

The site’s speed problem at the moment is down to the new servers being stressed due to traffic. This is being resolved.

All the work on the site has been paid for by the success of the CQN books. The server costs are met by Paul and are reaching a monthly level that is scary. To make the blog faster this will rise again. That’s why there are ads on the site.

Nevertheless we are trying to get the ads on that are not interfering too much with your enjoyment of the blog or for others, the wider site. The problem with the iPhone Apps appearing is being addressed.

Anyway sorry for making you think of Gordon Ramsay! We can only address problems if we know about them and it has been an enormous task trying to get the site right for everyone.

  3. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas,

I managed one like Charlie’s after about 1000 attempts.

I seem to recall big Peter coming out his goal to have a go at Keegan.

Celtic played mostly boys and were amazing in that tournament. All the trams took it very seriously.

Nice guy Peter, lived in Inverkip.

  4. WinningCaptains,

Great work with the new site. I really like it and appreciate how much effort you all put in to make it work.

Tried to log on last night, blog kept freezing, this was at 1 ish your time, so I don’t imagine it was due to traffic.

Just logged on just now, touch wood, it’s not too bad, but the writing when I am posting this is way behind what I am typing.

The server issue was apparent yesterday trying to post comments on the match thread.

Is there any way to make the match thread a trimmed down version with no adverts that run video?

Also can you swap the Register and Login positions around putting LOGIN first?

My contact on an iPad using my thumbs is not so accurate at times.

Gordon Smith in charge of the SFA. A bit like putting Fr Ted in charge of the parish accounts.

Still very bitter about his club’s liquidation. Hee hee.

    Happy birthday to Mr Fallon.

I was initially critical of the new format CQN as it didn’t work very well especially on Apple devices.

However, it it now pretty much glitch free for me at least and I thank you and everyone else involved for puting up with the bitching with such good grace.

    WC-how about a subscription or a donation option,?HH

    Sounds like a good idea.

  10. WC

I only use CQN for the blog and after initial glitches it’s been fine. The time stamp not operating on the first page of a new article is my only complaint.

Time for a subscription possibly if Paul’s costs are increasing?

Who knows it might get rid of some of the more obvious trolls.

  11. Dallas…

I came across a copy of the evening times from Friday in work this morning.

The back page was bfdj saying how Scott Allan would never sign for Celtic, in other words no chance would he sign for the Fenian b******s.

For some reason the page has been taped onto a huns locker, there is some twisted Celtic supporters out there ;)

Remember Nicholas swerving the ball into the corner too.The English teams took the tournament seriously with Keegan playing for Southampton that night.

  14. Hello again, best wishes to your dad BT, watched him many a time in years gone by. I hope he had a fantastic birthday, not far away from my own 75th. :-))

WC., not having any issues with the blog, a bit slow on occassions, but no other issues. I’m on iPad and dont have any problems with adverts, not that I want them.

As far as suscriptions go, I would be up for that. I know most other Celtic blogs are contributed to. Sensible pricing would be the order of the day.

  15. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Gerryfaethebrig at 8.46. sorry for the late reply.

That SW Innsbruck game I remember Tommy getting our second goal that night. I think Joe Craig got our first.

I’m sure they beat us 3 nil in the second leg. 1978/78 was a horrible season despite us having worse in the next 20 odd years.

I started a a part time job at Presto supermarket the day of the riot game at Hampden so I only saw the rammy on a telly, after 5.30 when I finished work, in the window of a in Drumchapel. I did win the sweep among the Saturday boys in the shop for George MccLuskey scoring.

Roy Croppie posted a cracking photo of George jumping in celebration after his goal. I wonder if a t shirt can be made with that photo on it with the words I predict a riot above it.

  18. Guys

Best way to contribute, I suppose, would be to buy a book or DVD from the bookstore link ( currently via CQN page on Amazon as bookstore is next to be rebuilt – it was removed from the server to assist the new site). The Wee Green book is only just over a fiver and there’s plenty other choices.

  19. Seriously …..

Scotland must be the only country in Europe, where the leaders of the 3 main parties are Virgins….

    I mean…..nobody would……

    5 pinters or 15 pinters?

You’d need to take yer own licker to any of their booze parties….,

  20. Evening all. Just catching up.

Is that article by Gordon wiggy Smith for real ?

This guy held high office in the SFA !

He displays all the logic of a prime, grade one,

    knuckle dragger.

This guy gets paid for writing deluded nonsense.

    Bonkers. Truly bonkers.

Ziggydoc, big Latchford was a great character who became a cult hero to some of us.

My favourite memory of him was right at the end of the 1980 cup final when he collected a long ball into our box. He collected it, the ref then blew for full time. He turned round , still holding the ball and raising his hand in celebration of our win.

Good to see a Scottish Pipe Band, (Shotts, Dykehead Caledonian), win the World’s in Glasgow, first time in ten years. Interesting to note that in second place came the Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band from Dublin, formed in 1910. I am pretty sure they will be involved in the Centenary Commemorations next year.

Sipsina at 9.50, I read Johnston’s garbage on newsnow on Friday morning.

It was a complete joke, almost as bad as Duffield’s bit in the Sunday Post today.

BFDJ’S comment about our interest in Scott would not prevent him of his dream of playing at Ibrox was his usual guff.

It sounds like Gordon Smith’s elderly parents’ health has thankfully improved as he chucked his SFA job to spend more time and care for his parents. The Sunday after he chucked it, he was a panelist on SKY who were covering our game at Tannadice. The following year he got a job at Sevco as director of football while spending more time and caring for his elderly parents.
