    Not trying to take sides.

Read his post again. Think about the fact that a guy wi a fear of heights swapped his ground level seats for seats that petrified me,an ex-scaffolder when I did the same wi ACGR

Think about MWD just making sure that a guy he only met through CQN could take his Dad to a ringside seat.

That’s yer man,MWD. That’s yer typical Celtic fan.

Sometimes you might look for recognition and it isn’t there, isn’t that better?

Difficult days ahead but clearly he was much loved and that will help the family going forward with many happy memories to call upon.

Good morning! Just for the record, that wasn’t in consideration of you, but some other posters. I may not agree with a lot of what you write but there isn’t (usually) anything insidious in it.

I can’t say the same for some of the other propaganda on here recently.

I know you have a “thing” about the GB but, IMHO, the singing of Rebel songs is no more or no less inculcation than it was when I was a callow youth in the ’70’s. Or before that. Like it or loathe it, it is a part of Celtic’s heritage and history; singing about the 1916 Easter Rising in the ’60’s and ’70’s was just as anachronistic as singing about the Troubles in 2017. Again, IMHO.

As BMCUWP says, your humour seems to have dissipated recently; some of us actually do miss it!

  12. Morning all.

Sincerest condolences to BABASONICOS on the sad passing of your father.

My thoughts with you and yours.

  13. The Scotsman are ‘at it’ again. Brendan Rodgers has just signed a 4 year deal but of course they will continue to predict he’s leaving

    ______

In fact it would be very surprising to see Rodgers stay at Celtic Park for five years. Simply because if he continues this success into next season, especially in the Champions League, demand for his services will increase. It would be completely understandable if his interest in the game north of the border waned.

Where is the competition coming from? Either it needs to go wayward at Celtic Park, or Rangers and Aberdeen need to make what now looks like a quantum leap to get within touching distance; a tall order which would either take unheard-of success in the transfer market or countless millions invested.

The 44-year-old will feel he has unfinished business in England, but will a job that’ll titillate Rodgers be available? The top six, and Everton can be added to that list, would unlikely see Rodgers as a strong candidate for any vacancy that arises. And, despite the asinine ramblings of football luminaries like Jason Cundy, Celtic are bigger than plodding English Premier League sides like Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion.

Though they would certainly offer a pathway towards the upper echelons. Southampton and Newcastle United are possibly more realistic options. Yet, one of the major benefits for Rodgers at Celtic is that he has an influence and control which he would unlikely get anywhere else. One avenue which has rarely been mentioned is that of Europe.

He has spoken before of his desire to manage in Spain with Rodgers already well versed with the language, communicating to the Spanish players at Liverpool in their native tongue. Their football culture suits his ethos.

That’s further down the line. Celtic fans should be content that the Northern Irishman will, at the very least, be at Celtic Park for another full season where they will reap the benefits. Lawwell hailed Rodgers as “the nearest to the full package, in terms of having the lot” of the managers he has worked with. He is the ideal manager for what the club are trying to achieve, as the chief executive outlined, “it’s about development, creating, building teams as opposed to being able to buy then.” Rodgers has displayed such qualities with the development of the vast majority of players at the club. None more so than the Scottish core which is of benefit to the national team and Gordon Strachan.

The club and players lost their way slightly under Deila. Not only has Rodgers put them back on track but got them moving faster and better than before. He has brought an x-factor to the league. He has brought interest from England, even if it is mostly patronising and at times simply disrespectful. But he is both a supporter of the game in Scotland and an excellent marketing tool for the league. Even if his David Brent comparisons still linger.

A notable occasion was when talking about a Rangers fan approaching him in the Clyde Tunnel to say he was a breath of fresh air. There’ll be more to come, it’s his nature, his personality. And it will be interesting when, maybe if, Celtic hit a sticky patch, a rut, how he reacts to the incessant Scottish press, which I am sure for someone on the other side can be overbearing. But so far it has been nothing but a success for Celtic’s best summer signing, with plenty more to come. The new contract was treated with delight from the green and white side of Glasgow, as it should be. However, his presence should be savoured because as Rodgers says “you never know what will happen.”

    Motivation is the key.

Agree or disagree , be assured that my intention whether you agree with me or not , is what I consider to be in the best interests of Celtic. My only motivation.

Some of the activities of the G.B. , imho , are most assuredly not in the best interests of Celtic.

Which takes us back to inculcation.

Or the political indoctrination of the young.

  16. The Scotsman article is pretty worthless as it’s just an opinion piece by somebody who knows as much about Brendan’s plans as you or I.

He’s effectively saying that Brendan will go because somebody else will come along a take him off our hands. That’s certainly possible but I’d have to disagree with how likely that is.

Who would come and take him from us? It’s unlikely that an elite club like Barcelona would consider him and even teams like Liverpool or Everton would probably see him tainted.

Brendan would probably need to get Celtic the CL quarter finals or win the Europa League to land the kind of big job that would motivate him to leave Celtic. If he wants to give it a go I’d be fine with that :-)

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers declared there is ‘much more to achieve’ as his team swept Kilmarnock aside.

A 3-1 Parkhead victory took his side’s domestic unbeaten run to 39 games at the weekend while they continue to pursue a Scottish Cup that will deliver a stunning treble.

The win capped off a fine week for the Hoops. After winning the Premiership last Sunday away to Hearts in emphatic fashion with a 5-0 win, Rodgers put pen to on a new four-year deal on Friday.

But, despite a glorious few days, the Celtic manager is not set to rest on his laurels just yet as he targets further success.

He said: “It was a great day for us. It’s been a fantastic week. We won the league and I have committed the next four years of my life to here. It’s an incredible club to work for, but there is much more to do and achieve.

“I really enjoyed watching the team today. I thought, collectively, they were outstanding and played the shape really well. The crowd enjoyed it and they really understand now what we are doing.

“When you are playing against a team that sits in a real low block, it’s very tough, especially at the beginning, to break down. But we showed patience and quality and worked the ball well in tight spaces and then we got the goal.

“In the main, we had everything I would want from a team, with our counter-pressing and playing with that lovely arrogance and charisma in the game.

    ADVERTISING

    inRead invented by Teads

“We always looked exciting and if we could score goals, while we also defended in the main very well. It was a great day all round, a good three points and I’m happy.”

Rodgers was also able to field the likes of Tom Rogic, Moussa Dembele and Eboue Kouassi who are all returning from injury.

Speaking about his three substitutes, he added: “It’s just trying to get some game-time into some of the players’ legs. The likes of Tom have been out a while so he got a period during the week and today, and you can see his qualities.

“I have a fantastic squad all fighting to play and some players weren’t even in the 18 or involved, but the players are full of confidence and playing very well.”
