two things I never thought I would see …

the fact that even someone like Weefra (who seem like a pretty positive sort when it comes to all things Celtic) is getting fed up with the displays on offer ….

or the fact that, today, I was dreaming about the time when Scott Brown was in the middle for us!

    Signs of the apocalypse surely?

Okay.. maybe not the end of the world, but surely signs that something needs to be done PDQ!

Can see a wee upset on the cards tomorrow in Perth, we need all the help we can get at the moment. Going through a rough patch but it will pass. God help us if the sheep edge in front because the ref’s in this country certainly are under control as part of a bigger agenda

    Evening TET

What about when the suits make an erchie of it or are not in tune with the fans? Does the Amazing Desmondo get to know? :-)

Today’s victory albeit scrappy and a tad lucky might actually give the team a bit of confidence to go on a bit of run! I am hoping this is the case anyway.

Today was good for 3 reasons for me, A victory and the return of the Griff ( definitely connected) and 3 of the celticrollercoaster family were on Celtic to win in LMS6. I had Leicester :-(

We should be strolling / controlling this league.

The reality is that, even with vastly superior resources, we are struggling to keep ahead of the pack.

This is not news … we have been terrible most of this season.

However, it’s impossible to sack a management team that are top of the league and still in two cups…

On the other hand we need a strong hand in charge for Europe and the Hun next season.

The ideal time for change is now !!!

  6. jude2005

Hello , that aimed at me? I was only asking what it was all about…if Celtic fans want to protest surely we can do better than that half arsed attempt.

  7. Stair

Ah the old “are we top of the league?” chestnut!. Tell us all, do you think any other position in the league at this stage of the season would be acceptable for a CFC team that out spends its domestic competitors by a factor of 20 to 30?

If you do then your idea of what is acceptable is much lower that pratically every other CFC fan I know!

If you or the board think that things are going to change so much between now and the CL qualifiers in August the I would suggest that you stand away from from the drink and sober up.

The coach has never got beyond page 2 of the Big Book of European coaching and now everybody in Scottish football knows that too!

We are as big a shambles as we were under John Barnes, in fact probably a bigger shambles because then we at least had the basis of a decent team! This lot need gutted and quickly!

Spend money on a proper experienced coach/manager and back his judgement on who stays and who goes!

Sign a couple of experienced pros who know the game to play at the back and holding in midfield and we would be a far better team than we currently look!

It’s not exactly rocket science but the current set up ain’t working!

Give RD another two years and e en Sevco could win the league!

    Evening all.

Don’t agree always with TD67 but think he is spot on tonight re some posters.

Negatives today – tactics, fitness, pace, game mgmt, nous.

Positive ( singular ) – a group of young lads found a way to win a game that was getting away from them. Superb.

Still many problems but I am a happy Celt tonight.

    Hail hail

  9. CRC

I doubt the great moustachiod one gives a flying duck :-)

The suits never have been on our wave length, and prob never will be………unless we get a few members of the CT on the board !!!!!

I noticed I was the only one who picked ICT today :-)

  10. mike in toronto on

sixtaeseven ….you are right ….tough situation for the board …. if they fire a table-topping manager, and the unthinkable happens, and we lose the league… there willl be hell to pay …

but, I agree with several other posters who say that the team seem to lack confidence and just dont seem to be understanding or believing what RD is selling ….

we need someone in , with a bit of time to get the squad ready for next season’s euro qualifiers ….

there is always a chance it could backfire, but I think the rewards outweigh the risks….

now for the difficult person …. who to get?

  11. Pogmathonyahun aka Laird of the Smiles on

Not long in from the game. I had the good fortune to have had my mate’s 2 season tickets for me and my son. When I say good fortune I mean I would have been mightily pissed off to have paid £62 to watch that dross. Delighted with the result but Griff got RD off the hook today. I’m sorry to say this but Ronny is totally clueless. If Griff was fit, as he obviously was, he should have been on from the start. We are crying out for some creativity in midfield but Ronny seems resolute about not playing Scott Allan for some reason. I want RD to succeed but I’m afraid that I may have woken up and the smell of coffee has hit my olfactory senses.

  12. There is a 40 / 60 split within the team of tryers vs (anti Deila) non tryers.

For me Griffiths is naturally a trier. At 25 he’s at peak of his powers, and would be strutting his stuff at this stage of his career whether with us or anyone else.

Rogic, is 22 yr old, I also regard as a trier. Young guy trying to make his way in the game. Try’s every week.

Young Tierney, the most obvious one, is certainly a trier. Wouldn’t matter who the boss is, that bhoy at his age tries like a bear every time the chance presents itself.

I also reckon Lustig and Gordon are still committed and try.

Now for the blatant obvious anti Deila non triers. Culprit No.1 = Commons.

Then Johansen (for different reasons), I don’t believe we are seeing the best of Bitton.

Whether Cifti is a trier or not is irrelevant , he’s simply crap.

The others of today’s starting 11 are neither here nor there.

  13. Dexter says BHOYCOTT CELTIC PARK UNTIL THE PLC PAY ALL EMPLOYEES THE LIVING WAGE on

Why do we see and hear the usual gnashing of teeth after yet another crap performance?

We are wasting our breath, wasting our worries. This is what happens, INEVITABLY, with DOWNSIZING. We will have the odd decent game, but by and large, the trajectory can only be one way. We are supporters and, therefore, will look optimistically/naively at any upcoming match, hoping for the magic turnaround to happen, for the high tempo/pressing game to materialise and for the players to click.

The reality now is mediocrity and it would be less painful in the long run if we accept that, For sure, if Sevco are promoted, there may be some matches with some added interest next season, but as long as we DOWNSIZE, the best we can hope for is domestic success in a pish-poor league.

On the other hand, the PLC could change the game. Rather than DOWNSIZE, they could CAUTIOUSLY INVEST. It doesn’t sound very sexy, however it is the best we could hope a PLC to do. What is modest investment? It is buying SLIGHTLY more expensive players- Strikers in the £4m-6m bracket, clearing out the various £1m-2.5m flops in those positions. Also, we need a midfield leader and a commanding, experienced centre back. It is also about trimming the squad generally.

Such CAUTIOUS INVESTMENT would give us a chance in Europe. With a chance, we might qualify for CL groups. This would re-attract the crowds and attract some other decent players.

Surely, surely, PL and the Bored can look around the empty former-fortress and realise, beyond any argument, that the strategy is failing. They may be banking everything on the promotion of Sevco, but that is not the answer to our limitations (indeed, the Rangers-myopia stymied us in other ways several years ago).

Of course, (1) at the end of the day, (2) its only a game… Despite what someone previously said, football is not more important than life and death. However, Celtic (and other clubs for other fans) offers the chance of distraction, enjoyment, camaraderie. The PLC is sucking the enjoyment out of our support by its DOWNSIZING.

Unless there is a change of direction, those who have stopped attending Celtic Park will soon stop buying merchandise, even checking for the Hoops’ results. “I used to follow Celtic, but…” And all thanks to a policy where the suits will one day say “We used to run Celtic when we had no opposition, with a chance to get to the CL for three or four seasons and secure our future in that completion for a decade, but…”

  14. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Ah well Ronny is a dud we can only win the treble this season and any decent Celtic fan knows that is not good enough so lets get rid of him and bring in another manager .I wonder who this manager that could win as more than the treble is ? I think to much heavy drink has been taken by many bloggers on CQN despite all the moans we won today against a stuffy Partick Thistle team who funny enough our nearest rivals couldnt beat at home but funny I dont hear them calling for there managers head. We have been hit by a run of injuries from the start of this season and that has had an effect so Ronny in my opinion is doing a good job keeping us top of the table so give the guy a break and get behind him and the team. H.H.

  15. Dexter

    Don’t kid yourself.

Ronny has spent money. And if not him personally, the club itself has invested money.

Much more than Leigh Warsaw, much more than Maribor, much more than Malmo, much more than Molde.

What even is cautious investment. ?

    We have invested.

Just not very wisely, either in management or players

  16. Evening Celts

    No surprises today.

Poor displays are becoming the norm.

But what i am slightly confused about.

About four or five days ago, im sure RD was talking about Celtic spending big in the transfer window, no loan deals etc.

However, in the last two days we have been told that we cant afford Aiden McGeady., not that im too bothered about that.

Im no expert….but what would be the point of winning a poor league, if we have a poor team.

Where is the fun in that.

Its not all about winning the league, because if the PLC think we can win the league with a poor team, and its accepted…then they dont need to do anything but serve up more dross, at top dollar a well.

But…what happens then, every time you play a decent team?

And for all those who think that sevco wont challenge us next season….your overconfidence is in reality naivety.

If we are struggling against Thistle, it seems obvious to say….we are not a very good team at the moment, and if it is not improved, then we will indeed be challenged by sevco and their ref pals next season.

You would think we were Barca the way some of you go on.

    Wake up ffs

    HH

  17. Stairheedrammy on

Croppy, larger resources doesn’t always equate with positive results, if it did then Chelsea and Sevco would be miles ahead in their leagues. Can you also tell me when Barnes team was top of the league with a game in hand during a spate of injuries to key players. We haven’t played well since being knocked out of Europe, not helped by the injuries and the media campaign to unsettle the team, contrast Warbutons media treatment with that of RD, bot three points ahead in their divisions, both with vastly greater resources, only one with a game in hand to possibly go six ahead.

  18. Thetimreaper

    Eurochamps

    Excellent observations and posts

We have had plenty of uninspiring displays over the last 12/18 months, for me as soon as the fans realise it’s the formation RONNY plays the better.

His vision on how to play is admirable but not realistic with the squad we have got.

He is egotistical and arrogant to that fact.

Robbie Neilson went with young guys in the Championship and brought them up playing attractive expansive football, to a lesser degree Mark Mcghee and Gordon Strachan (Scotland) took charge of teams and instantly you could see the change in performance.

For all of Rounds bravado/sound bites he had done nothing more (with far superior finances) than Mcguiness/McEntire,oMcghee or Neilson would’ve done.

We have the players, we don’t have the correct formation imho

  19. Goooood evening CQN, and may I wish every genuine Celtic fan who cares about our club all the very best for 2016

Those who think they are fans, but have their heads stuck in the sand and who are choosing to ignore the shambles of our current team and structure , can I say GIRFUY’s you are doing our club and fans a huge disservice by ignoring what is taking place

Lawell I respect your guidance on keeping us afloat financially at this time, but make a constructive and corageous decision – you have got it wrong with this manager, so get that sorted ASAP, or go with him

When we have fans like Weefra, who cannot face watching our team under this manager, surely that is now telling all Celtic fans something is wrong

I make no apologies, Ronny Deila is taking us down ( or backwards) so quickly this may take time to recover from, and not being helped by that so called Cheif Scout, who also must go,

Let’s gets some decent coaching, or team management and start some decent player scouting

A hugely frustrated Celtic Fan watching what is taking place at my club

    Time for change bhoys

  20. millerston tim on

Hard win the day but still a win. Team not playing well seems no leaders on the park. No hard pressing high tempo from ronnis bhoys. Why Scott Allan on bench when commons has a stinker? Sitting on top tear of celtic end absolutely no atmosphere apart from the GB. Too many fans playing with there phones rather than cheering on the hoops. Come on Ronnie give us a change of formation, try 2 up front and get a buzz about CP again.hail hail.

  21. i'vehadtochangemyname on

    Hi MIT

I caught your bit the other day about coaching and bringing the best out of people – makes sense with what you’ve just posted – agreed with it the other day – glad to be top of the league but with euro qualifiers around the corner for us we’ve got to get it sorted.

  22. the amount of “experts” who dont actually go and watch the game but are quite happy to talk about formations and fitness levels is staggering!

  23. Marspapa

I don’t get caught up on formations.

However, if you can get a well drilled, disciplined, hard working team, that is sprinkled with quality in the final third, then you won’t go far wrong.

I look at leicster, Watford, crystal palace etc down south, and I see exactly that.

If only we had a pardew or a pulis

  24. spikeysauldman on

we were rank today – but a few things….

arsenal played poorly, but dug deep to move ahead at the top of the league – wenger seems happy enough

man utd won and LVG said the result was everything

we played poor, went down to 10 men, usual refereeing display, dug deep and after the sending off were the only team who were ever going to win – half of cqn and 100% of the msm reckon ronny should get sacked ?????

folk moan about ronnies subs – forrest and Griffiths were the danger men when they came on

(tho would not have taken rogic off myself)

tactics and formation count for jack when cqn faves like KC don’t move, don’t complete passes

tactics and formation count for jack when players like NB offer the ref the chance to send him off on a plate

the crowd today was appalling, GB apart. Contributed jack to the atmosphere, until after 80 mins. Just wtf does booing players at half time achieve – for those who give it “‘I’ve paid I can boo if I want” please get tae.

they’re happy to acknowledge and be part of the idea of a 12th man. but strangely unable to grasp the basics of booing, psychology & confidence – not to mention pissing off other “paying customers”.

  25. squire danaher on

    Re current manager

Where is this level of fitness and high tempo football he promised when he arrived?

If anything this team is slower in possession and movement than NL team was. If anything the football is getting worse rather than better.

Funny I seem to recall the furore on here in May 2010 and I would be prepared to bet that one Gordon Strachan would have got this shower of duds into the Champions League this season and would be respectably clear at the top of the League as well.

I would be delighted to have him back for 6 months to mind the shop and secure another League title.

Oh well, be careful what you wish for.

  26. mike in toronto on

    I’vehadtochange….

how ya’ doing mate? hope you had a great holiday season.

I must say …I didn’t know much about RD before he signed for us, but, when I heard what he was promising, I thought RD was an inspired choice ….a new view/new approach …. exactly what is needed for Celtic to pull away from the dross of scottish football …

and I still think that, generally, is the way to go if we want to claw back the gap to the upper echelons of Europe … and there is something, generally, likable about RD …. leaving aside the fact that he is the Celtic manager, he seems like a good guy, and I would just like to see him do well … but I just dont think he is the guy for the job ….

if we wanted to take less of a chance, the 6 counties manager would be a decent shout … but I wouldn’t be upset if the Board went with another foreign manager like RD who brings new ideas/a fresh approach ….

  27. Stairheedrammy on

Where are the increased fitness levels we were promised? Funny, I thought our ten men finished stronger than Eleven Thistle players did today.

  28. mike in toronto on

stairheed …. after we went down to 10 men, we did seem to get a bit of a lift … I did wonder why that was.

perhaps, the players were freed from the system, and had more license to roam….

maybe, being down a man, the players felt the pressure to win was off, and played more freely ….

maybe with PT having an extra man, they came forward a bit,and left us more space to play into …

I dont know the answer, but I did notice that we seem to perk up a bit after ….

I would need to go back and watch the game again to have a better answer ….athough, I may leave it for a while….

Some of the Thistle players were dead on their feet towards the end.

  30. Just wondering about Bitton.

Its very, very rare you see a player jump into 2 needless tackles after a booking, like Bitton did today.

The only time you see that is when a player takes a healthy dig and has a hot head for 5 mins after.

Was he trying to go off????

After the first I thought, calm down Nir.

PL isn’t going anywhere, RD will be given time to put his team on the pitch.

We struggled today against a well organised PT team. Probably the best PT team in the last 10 yrs or so.

Have to admit we are hard to watch just now, something just isn’t clicking in the team and the opposing team appear to be able to upset our play at will.

While I some reservations about our management team there is no way you can get rid of a manager who is top of league and still in 2 cup competitions. To suggest otherwise is simply madness.
