  1. I hope Barca Bhoy doesn’t end me reposting it, very decent read and if you compare Ronny’s squad with Neil’s the answer is in there somewhere:)

“Ronny is working with our poorest quality squad in years.

The money wasted , even before he arrived , is quite frightening.

Boerrighter , Pukki, Balde, Scepovic have all been complete busts. They cost in the region of £9 million + wages.

Miku , Lassad, Gershon, Berget, Tonev, Wakaso all were players who would have been expensive loan players and produced virtually nothing.

I don’t blame Ronny for any of that . You can’t blame him for Lenny’s signings & the signings at the start of last season I doubt had very much to do with him. There is a viewpoint that Lenny didn’t have a huge role in recruitment either.

The manager, any manager , can only choose from a list provided to him by the scouting department. Unless a manager at Celtic has the stature of a Martin O’Neill or a Gordon Strachan then they are unlikely to be able to ride roughshod over John Park.

The landscape has changed and the clubs ability to attract a proven experienced manager is limited. The strategy of using our resources to develop the best young players in the price bracket we can afford makes sense.

We just aren’t providing those players to the manager. We didn’t do it in Lenny’s last 2 years and we haven’t done it in Ronny’s first 3 windows. Despite spending heavily . We have a crazy imbalance in the squad and our success ratio on signings is extremely poor .

We can scream for Ronny’s head but changing managers won’t cure the fundamental problem , which is we sign too many average / poor players.

Calum McGregor and Ciftci both sum up our predicament. I have to give credit to McGregor for his efforts to improve himself. He has got better, despite a poor game today. However he , in my view, will never be a good enough player to start in a good Celtic team. We drop our standards when players of this ability are seen as starters for Celtic.

In addition to wasting huge sums on terrible signings , the injury situation is a huge worry. We have players who are out for months over what appear to be innocuous injuries. The amount of wages and transfer fees which occupy the medical room at Lennoxtown is a huge drain.

Charlie Mulgrew has been fit for 13 out of the last 58 league games.

Scott Brown will have missed a minimum of 24 league games in 2 seasons by the time he returns.

Janko has been missing for 3 months , with no reported return on the horizon.

Lustig has missed 42 out of 58 league games since the start of last season.

Commons has missed 21 games in the last season and a half due to injury

Why do so many of our players miss so many games ?

    Are we unlucky ?

Is this another failure of recruitment or a failure of sports science ?

Whatever the cause it’s been hugely damaging to the manager.

The manager has also made mistakes, sometimes not learning from them quickly enough. We have also been the victim of some awful refereeing . However we can’t do anything about refereeing , but we can improve our recruitment and our injury issues. That should be the focus of debate in my opinion , rather than changing the manager.

Any demand for a change of manager should only be taken seriously when accompanied by who should replace him. Suggestions of managers who wouldn’t get on a tracksuit for less than £2 million a year can be ignored.”

Good points, but I will probably renew the ST becauseI I trust, perhaps inadvertently, the PLC will make the correct decisions. Hope you’re well buddy and a Happy, Healthy, Safe and Prosperous New Year to you and your family. See you soon at CP. HH

  3. PL and DD must be keeching themselves in case BDO are refused leave to appeal before end of transfer window

    Just saying.

That was a strange game today…..the players seemed lethargic, as did some of the supporters …. When we went down to 10 men, the support for the team improved, the team then improved and we scored ……Ronny really is going to have to play 2 strikers domestically, or pay the penalty

What was not so strange was ssb making negative anti-Celtic assumptions …… I turned on the car radio on my way home from the game, only to discover ssb were promoting the theory that our fans were mimicking the Real Madrid white hankie protests, when all our fans were doing (once again this year) was lighting their mobile torches to see in the new year….. I turned off the radio….

What’s this about sevco borrowing money from 2 shady Chinese ‘businessmen’ ?? ….. They wouldn’t be that silly / desperate, would they? ….. Surely not after what happened to the now deceased oldco…. Hahahahahahaha

  7. Today is a good day,my mam has made dramatic improvement in the last 24hrs and the hoops won,any victory lightens my troubles and brightens my thinking,

over the last 3 days my mam has been through a stroke, diabetic sizures and an urine infection, all through her troubles when she didnt know where or who she was nor any of her family, i showed het a photo of me and the weemhan draped in our scarfs at his 1st game “awwww CELTIC” she said.

I knew at thet moment there was hope, our club is hot wired into our minds and hearts,

thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

  8. Ruggyman. Hi :)

For me it’s about formations and trust, if your playing every week in the same shape players get to know where their teammates will/should be at any given time, Ronnys shape doesn’t take long to fail.

When we misplace a pass there’s a huge gap between midfield and defense, we don’t have the players upfront to beat 2/3 men, we sometimes have four in their box and can’t pick a player out, sometimes we have numbers back and still lose concentration / goals.

Most of these players come from 4, 4, 2 systems which suits them to Ronnie system, add to that we won’t have a settled team for more than a year and a half ( I wish Btw)

All of this is imho and not FACT

Also it could well be a load of codswallop :))

    Anyhoo happy new year

  9. Always great to win a Glasgow Derby. Sweet too that we won in the last minute.

I do wish the coach had the balls to pick Scott A ahead of the petulant Kris C who is past his sell by date now. Much as I appreciate KCs great contribution for Celtic I hope he moves on gracefully.

Great also that so many Hun lurkers and sad supposed celtic fans having their hopes dashed by Griff and his last minute intervention. The types who simply log on here to slaughter Our coach and to tell everyone how good it was when we were spending outwith our means ten years ago. Those who have the same entitlement complex which drove David Murray to bankrupt our rivals.

The tone was set for the day by the pond life, bankrupt clown of a former celtic player sutton in the record completely ignoring our coaches actual comments regarding signing a former player in his usual headline grabbing anti celtic double page in the best selling tabloid. Meanwhile our rivals have heroically found the £6.5m needed to just keep them afloat this week ( reported with all succulent lamb timmings as a feat of financial genius of course).

We had a referee out to do all in his power to disrupt our flow, to provide every chance to our opponents. We have a new generation of support brought up on videos of HLs great goals and expecting instant gratification. Breaking news for these guys is that celtic don’t always win. We won the league just 7 times in 24 years from 1977 and got beyond xmas in Europe just once in that period. There were losses to lower league Burnley in 78, 3 nil down at Parkhead in first half hour on New Years day vs Rangers, 3 nil defeats to Dundee Utd in the scottish cup, 5 -1 to Neufchâtel in Europe, but also some really rubbish scrambled 2-1 wins vs the likes of Thistle in 79 which helped us win that season, 4-3 giving away 3 crazy goals at Motherwell that season, horrible performances in the fabled 85/6 season when we won at Love St.

I remember my first game when we beat dunfermline 3-1 at Parkhead to stay in touch with Rangers ( 3 points adrift ) on 4th January during our 9 in a row period. A rotten game and poor performance according to the folk around my at the stand side pylon at the old Rangers end. dad said that was the kind of game we would have lost 5 years earlier. The folk on the bus agreed. We beat rangers by the thinnest of margins that season for the league.

Winning ugly is part of football. The celtic way is great but so is the myth that our support is faithful through and through.

Celtic are top of the league and heading for 5 in a row. The main thing which will prevent us getting 10 is not the MIB’s but it is ourselves. The board through complacency, the support through a sense of entitlement and frustration with the perceived limited ambition of the board, the new consumers through being manipulated by clowns like sutton, McLeod, et al in the old media.

Ronnie may not be the best coach but he is the best we have now. I know those close to him and better equipped than me to comment, really rate what he is doing. I would love to see him deliver the 4th treble in my lifetime…….and win the league at a canter to allow him the chance to get ready for a decent go at europe and possibly to beat a mob from govan next season.

Spot of home entertainment last night – my wife had her two pals and husbands round. One of the guys is a Hun ( sensible objective nice guy) and the other is a slightly deluded Don who thinks they are serious contenders.

At 2 am after a few – I bet the Don £50 that we would end the season 10 points clear. I’m confident that will happen.

That said I’m still looking for improvement from players , manager and Board.

On balance I feel Lawwell is the chief protagonist in this season’s story – he will be judged at the end of this season. Not on the season’s outcome, not just by the balance sheet from this season but how far away we are from Sevco.

We are a good distance from them at this point but miles and miles less than many had hoped.

Moneyball has burst- we have next to no players we can sell on and a squad who are proven failures in Europe. A manager who is way out of his depth.

The next few months are critical to many at Celtic

  13. Well I hadn’t thought about this,

    ” Archibald said.

“I thought the sending-off changed the game for the worse for us. I thought we had a good rhythm and shape and it upset us a little bit.”

Us having a man sent off upset them. WTF!

Maybe the Men in Black should rethink their tactics?

    Doubt it though.

No idea what to add to the discussion but my 13 year old was not too impressed by the lack of commitment and forward play today. I thought Efe was good (apart from a few strange decisions when passing- is this conforming to directives)?

I love how we can pass sideways and backwards so well. Hopefully we can practice on the forward one…

Use Celtic and use the blog to your own ends, I am one of the “fans” who lives closer than most but circumstances make sure I am not at games, not even financial (at times) but family stuff means I cannot give up 1pm-6pm on a Saturday or Sunday and no chance during the week, when I read of Dena & Almore and many other it puts me too shame until I realise it’s unrealistic for me, anyway keep the blog and Celtic games the focus for your good self

It is a shame that you cannot respect another Celtic supporters view point and opinion, and feel the need to get personal to prove a point. I do not think that is needed at all and demeans the blog.

What I saw today at CP was many Celtic supporters celebrating Lee’s goal today with our “smash and grab “victory. Many leagues are won with games like today ( i.e we did not deserve) and indeed we can only beat those teams in front on us. What I read from many on CQN is a frustration that we are wasting the resources at our disposal and not a desire to overspend or live outside our means.

I hope (both) our team wins as many games as possible to the end of season, including a treble if possible and throws in a few decent performances as well

  24. Results decide whether managers succeed or fail, performances are by a long way secondary.

We’ve played well in the Europa in games this season but didn’t get the results, which put him under pressure. We win today and it’s the performance that has people saying he needs to go.

I have been slated and decried because I posted my opinion of a force which would cause horrific damage to my country. I wished them to be wiped out, Tongue in cheek, I recommended they be Nueked. Although pining for Wee Christina takes up the bulk of my time I do occasionally find wee gems like Barcabhoys post, I think it’s very important to keep perspective in repost to the changing face of football.

Ronny has had a tough start and has made mistakes but the slaughtering he’s getting on Facebook is just not Celtic for me it’s more indicative of an evolving way of ripping people to shreds on an internet forum without any comeback or real thought. The internet seems to bring out the worst in a lot of people. OTT slagging etc..

If I am not mistaken Ronny is the new strategy and to sack him now would require a huge climbdown by the Celtic board, I’m on board for the rest of the season and will be next season too although I have to admit to nodding off in the first half today and last week and the week before that. Middle age bah humbug..

Hyperboles are us kinda thing and a slide into the dangerous waters of expecting to blow every team away cos we all Harry Feckin’ Enfield’s innit. Bigger budget doesn’t put the ball in the net..

My main gripe is we are bereft of Celtic heroes..

    Suits you Sir..

  27. Celticrollercoaster

respect is in pretty short supply in all the comments on the blog at the moment.

  28. Today was dire. Weakest team for years and no real confidence. Ronny it’s over , you have lost the Celtic support.

Lawwell you have made the manager a scapegoat. You have systematically weakened the whole football structure of Celtic with a series of bad decisions ….in which the overriding factor is Lawwell does what is best for Lawwell.

When Celtic should be light years clear of Sevco who will be in the SPFL next year you have downsized and weakens every part of the club ….apart from your £1M compensation incl bonus. By the end of the next financial year you will have taken £9.6M out of the club. Your compensation is more than double the managers. Wrong way round.

The dross we watched today is not the fault of Ronny Deila. He is a good honest man who is out of his depth and needs an honourable exit. You will hang him out to dry and continue to milk our club dry.

An honourable exit for Ronny is that you go with him….this mess is entirely of your making.
