KT celebrating his last ditch tackle was brilliant, not sure about going down “too easy” far too many cowardly fouls on our young left back, so if getting a bit wiser it’s all good, after another foul on him today (barge in the back) Broony was over having a wee word or two…. I wish we had more KTs, Broonys & Griffs in the team but those 3 are a great start…. roll on Zenit !
Still gutted about young Liam Miller, only found out and posted back of 7am this morning and hadn’t read back, Eurochamps67 & Topkat terrific news yesterday, and keep fighting the good fight, sometimes we don’t realise how lucky we are
Evening fellow scribes, philosophers and progressive revolutionaries
Now I don’t know the answer to many of the football questions that feed our discussions, doubts and dreams, but I do know that today’s SFA experiment, good-intentioned as it was, to put a work experience trainee in charge of today’s Scottish cup game proved
a) a failure and
b) that Mr McLean needs to consider a return to his previous occupation – assuming that is that the role of standing around like a dick as a pretend statue on Buchanan street, taking money under false-pretences and annoying the crap out of everyone but under-4-year-olds who don’t know any better, is still open.
But of course the refereeing ‘issue’ is much more invasive, institutional and corrosive than simply wee Stevie.
It really is time to go back to the future and revisit the Strategic Review of Scottish Football 2010 (No not the Henry MacLeish wan….MINE!) and in particular those sections covering the future role of referees and the involvement of the fans.
The Role of the Referees
a) With immediate effect all referees and linesman will be dispensed with. The laws of the game, the conduct of the match, stoppages, additional time, everything including penalties and all that stuff will be controlled by the commentators and pundits in the media box, or if they can’t make the game, by satellite link from their hotel bedroom while they enjoy a late breakfast or an early livener.
By using current technology, decisions will be flashed up on the electronic scoreboard thus keeping the fans involved and informed of the whys and wherefores of decisions. This should lead to an even greater empathy between expert and supporter than even that that exists now.
To ensure that players do not take unfair advantage of this seemingly “at arms’ length” arbitration, they (the players) will be fitted with two small electrical terminals. In the event of any ‘law’ transgression the media observer(s) will transmit a short sharp shock as a quick reminder of the ethos within which the game should be played. Yellow and red cards will no longer be needed as additional transgressions will see the current increased accordingly with punishments ranging from ‘Oh ya bas….’ to 10 minute incapacitation. We feel that this will bring a degree of fit between punishment and crime that is all too sadly lacking in today’s game. We also feel that due to the high regard in which both commentators and expert interjectors are held, arguments by supporters over the correctness of the decisions are unlikely to arise.
The committee did consider giving the ‘right to shock’ to the support and tv viewers, but felt that this may be a step too far at the moment and could result in carnage after 5 minutes!
b) As a minor but important aside, in order to minimise the dilution of the game’s roots and keep it cozy within the Scottish family, ALL commentators and contributors to things like papers and blogs will hereby refrain from using the terms goal-kicks, free-kicks, and throw-ins. These events will WITHOUT EXCEPTION be given their true and historic descriptive of ‘Bye-kicks, fouls and Shies.
c) If the proposal given in item a) proves successful, electric terminals will also be fitted to home and away supporters, pundits, TV and radio presenters and polis. Should the game prove less than enthralling, half time entertainment will involve all parties trying to zap all others. Those standing in queues waiting for pies etc and those crossing their legs while awaiting a number 1 or 2 in the bogs will be excluded from this particular ‘customer attraction’ as we do not wish to encourage some scurrilous individuals tasering others just because they are ahead of them in the queue for a pish ‘n chips.
Involvement of the Supporters
Critical to the success of these proposals is the involvement of the paying supporter and we recognise that the more they pay the better. It is further recognised that it is better for them to be ripped off by a benevolent SFA rather than for them in their proletarian dissolute tendencies to fritter their money away on drink and junk food .
To encourage them to invest in Scottish football and the continued well-being of megalomaniacal millionaires and wannabees running the clubs, we propose as of next season that all teams replace half-time draws etc with a ‘supporter’s pick’. During the pre-match warm up a random draw of season book numbers will be made. The two supporters drawn for each team will play for their team for the whole game.
They will also be paid the salary of the highest paid participant (of their team) that day. If in the case of Albion Rovers, East Stirlingshire or Aberdeen the selected supporters happen to be the highest paid players, they will instead be entitled to a free pie and Bovril. This opportunity will be open to all sexes, ages and abilities. It will of course revive that age old Scottish custom of ‘taking my boots to the game ……just in case’ and may go some way towards verifying the eternal claim that ‘ma granny could have scored that’!
Supporters will of course not go away empty handed. They are the life blood of our prosperity and they will be entitled to buy the shirt they wear on the pitch for a 20% discount (once they pay for cleaning fees).
We feel that this will be treasured possession for many to look back in years to come and say ‘I was there’!
I submitted this report at the same time as Henry’s drier, less ambitious and patently impractical suggestions. For some reason it AND the other well thought out proposals covering the likes of ‘minimising the advantage of financial dominance’ have been totally ignored.
Perhaps with the impending transformation in SFA organisation and ethos I should resubmit it.
Jozo, who IMO, is the best CH in the traditional sense, has had his head turned. If the fee was 8, with hindsight/foresight 6 would have been good. Who knows anything though?

If the answer is Yes, then will everyone take that into consideration before rubbishing the team.
For what it’s worth, on present form, Forrest has the attributes to do a job as a No.10.

You’re absolutely correct. KT is guilty of falling to the ground and cradling his head (he did this today) when clearly there is no head injury. He needs to rein this in. He IS constantly targeted and often taken out after he has played the ball, but he is, I think, already getting a reputation among referees of simulation and several assaults are getting ignored in practically every game.

Bada B,
I’m not really into team selection, but, if I was, I have been thinking of playing three at the back. Chose between Lustig, Jozo, Ajer, Boyata and Commper, with Brown sitting deep in front of them.
I think he has lost a bit of his drive in recent games.
If fit, I would have Armstrong alongside N’tcham, with Kouassi as an option and KT.
That would leave Roberts, Rogic, Forrest, Griff, Dembele, Mc.Gregor, Odsonne and Sinclair vying for the attacking roles.
