  1. corkcelt- SUPPORTING THE DAM 5 on

Thought I’d post a ballad about real hard times, we came through that we will come through anything. Keep the Faith.

In Dublin city in 1913 the boss was rich, the poor were slaves,

The women working, the children starving, along came Larkin like a mighty wave,

The workman cringed when the bossman thundered, seventy hours was his weekly chore,

He asked for little and less was granted,

Lest getting little he’d ask for more.

In the month of august the bossman told us,

No union man for him could work,

We stood by Larkin we told the bossman,

We’d fight or die we would not shirk,

Eight months we fought, eight months we starved,

We stood by larkin through thick and thin,

    But food-less homes,the crying children,

They broke our hearts,we could not win.

Then Larkin left us we seemed defeated,

The night was dark for the working man

Along came Connelly with new hope and council,

His motto was we’d rise again,

In nineteen sixteen in Dublin city the British army they burned our town

They shelled our buildings they shot our leaders,

The harp was buried beneath the crown.

They shot Mc Dermot and Pearse and Plunkett,

They shot Mc Donagh and Clark the brave,

From bleak Kilmainham they took their bodies,

To Arbour hill to a quick lime grave,

But last of all of the seven leaders,

A dying man they shot Connelly,

The voice of justice the voice of freedom,

He gave his life that men might be free.

  2. Auldheid,

I will, at sometime, arrange for you and I to have access to one and other`s email addresses. For how much longer do you intend to stay in Benalmadena?

    Goldstar 17.42.

I only listened to game via Celtic TV ( a more peaceful way to keep in touch than either Clyde or BBC btw) and did not hear Delahunt’s comment but if a caller had said what you quote then the panel would have been quick to say it was extreme or out of order.

The next couple days should be interesting for Jim if he is hosting the show.

The msm’s self interest in a Ranger’s recovery is more obvious than ever, they are used to the wineing and dineing that tax payers unwittingly paid for.

Unlike those salad days of SDM succulency they face stiff competition from the social media and the truth will prevail.

I was my nephews motor, and was raging. Radio 4 is now the teenager’s station of choice.

A bunch of semi-literate fools, the way they treated the boy, who’s point was valid but not well made was bullying at the extreme. Never again.

interesting, indeed…..”I can see deed peepul” hahahahahahaha

  8. Matte

That sounded awfully like ‘we deserve better’. :)

Seriously though it’s clear that Neil is going for the undefeated record and at 1-0 his style will go with this type of substitution. I guess like the rest of us he’d like to see us 3 or more up bit it ain’t happening lately.

When it did (like at the mothers) he brought on Atajic who scored a beauty in a game that was a procession by then.

I call it pragmatic management. Not pretty but as I say it’s a results game and Neil clearly likes the focus of the unbeaten record for this season when the league is guaranteed.

    1st the positives

another Win and clean sheet :-)

    Now

outplayed for long spells by Partick Thistle, yes outplayed.

Total lack of movement far too often by our players.

I payed particular attention today to James Forrest (and not singling him out) – 68th minute before he went wide of Adam Mathews for a pass then managed a cross.

now this lack of movement for the ball or into space, in my view can only be through our coaching and tac-tics.

    not good watching – Lenny.

and why take Pukki off when doing ok, to replace by others without that effort ?

for the wee break I suggest the players do a daily 5 or 10k run, to get used to movement

    Hail Hail

  10. Jungle Jim, I’m looking for ideas to get the non atenders or sometimers back in to generate an atmosphere. Those are my reasons for not going at times. An approx 2 hour at the park game time experience equates to me being out of the house for 6 hours. Find a baby sitter or convince she who must be obeyed that the kids will be no bother. Find a spare £50 quid.

Get to the game and watch Anthony Stokes pretend he is an all time great. Listen to fans around me criticise James Forrest again and again or Samaras.

The club did a lot this year recognising the problem with a reduction in ticket prices but it’s not enough. There is not much the club can do about folk maoning about our good players but there needs to be more on the family, pricing and travel front.

  11. Cheers Rebus

He doesn’t seem to be getting the profile of the DUFC fellas but I’d rather go with substance.

  13. Can I have the raspberry

If I understand right then he has to take the rough with the smooth I’m the signing stakes as does his scouting department. For the life of me I can understand even with our budgetary limitations how we have such a poor return since Hooper…

  14. It’s not long ago I used to slag off deadco fans when they played boring football, only to get the usual reply…we won!

Sorry, it’s not what me or my kids want to watch and listening to my friends…they feel the same.

I’ve watched Celtic through the bad years and suffered the gloating as most posters on here have.Yep, it was hard but back then I didn’t realise the corruption that was going on.

It’s in our hands to make sure when the time comes we have as strong a team as possible in order to not just beat thems but to humiliate them.

Sort it Celtic, let us be entertained with forward passing football and a real striker.

Oh’ maybe discussion with the GB might get some off the younger fan base back!

  15. Big Wavy

Do you think today that Thistle, who started with their goalscorers on the bench were such a huge threat to us winning the league and that we could only afford to play with one man (not sure he’s a striker, not a criticism) up front with one creative midfielder behind him to ensure we pick up “vital” points ?

Today, I’m afraid we deserved better.

  16. Cowiebhoy supporting the Celtic to 3 in a row

I think the idea was that Jamesy would play through the middle, he was the least effective I have ever seen him and I thought he would be better through the middle..

Got Antony Beevor’s Stalingrad for a crimbo present – have jumped in and am enjoying it – but feel I lack context.

Anyone can offer an accessible catch all history of WWII I could delve into?

Is Beevor’s as good as any?

    U

  18. Awe naw-ta for reply,as Raspberry is saying ,i am not sure who is bringing in some players.Pukki,Balde,Boeriggter ?about £6.5 mil? That is big bucks for Celtic.Every transfer is a gamble, for every Lustig there is a Bangura, but there are much better players out there for £1.6-2.4mil than Boeriggter and Pukki.

  19. Matte

Thanks but I guess there is an obvious conclusion to be had that Neil is sticking with his tried and trusted players to get us over the line before any level of ambition. Maybe Morton scarred him but I guess he will be relatively dogmatic with selection (with all those risks) until he feels secure in introducing youngsters.

I ll have a look at the subs stats to see if this has merit some time but I guess he ll introduce Sammy before an Atijic if there is a small margin. He ll be more adventurous if we are out of sight.

    Big Wavy

  20. Cowiebhoy supporting the Celtic to 3 in a row on

    Starry,

even if through the middle, he did not move into space, or look for the ball,

at one stage Pukki ran 10-15 yards towards a shy, leaving a huge amount of space behind him, no one moved into this gap, hence the shy also went backwards to Effe.

I really struggle with this lack of thought ? or movement.

having watched Celtic for over 40 years, I cannot remember when I last seen so little movement from a team

    hail Hail

  21. ulysses mcghee,

Pure gueswork on my part but desperation might be a factor.

I took an interest in their business forecasts based on proir accounts and IPO info that suggested they could run into next season.

Then they announced the £10 m in the bank left so I knocked off my too positive forecast to bring into line with that figure which meant running dry this season say March/ April.

I could not be bothered updating the individual components when their latest accounts were produced. Too much work to arrive at more or less the same conclusion that well runs dry in coming months.

An imponderable is the facility they say they have access to, a couple of a million I think.

I dont know who is the provider and under what conditions but until there are signs of massive expenditure reductions that might be hard to achieve given contracts etc the desperation is likely to be a key factor.

Never in the history of Scottish football has so much been owed by a very few to so many.

The ” Few” are Sir David Murray and Campbell Ogilvie initially aided and abbeted latterly but Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster.

The many are the supporters of ALL clubs and I include the Rangers supporters who, although they created the conditions that enabled the real guilty men to thrive, deserve to have what Celtic supporters already have, which is responsible adults in charge.

Not mistake free by any means but responsible and know what those responsibilities are.

  23. Cowiebhoy supporting the Celtic to 3 in a row

I watched James today and have done for a while now, his decision making is poor as is Browns and often Stokes’s, can that be coached in I don’t know but watching Patrick today chase us all over the park and us like statues made for uncomfortable viewing, Celtic TV’s New Years resolutions made interesting viewings, Charlie ” stop eating so many sweeties” Dylan ” stop always going to Nandos” Big Sammi “none” Fraser ” to work harder and harder and see where it takes me?”

    Mair questions than answers????????

    Starry,

A change of direction is necessary. There is no more to cut and to also expect a prescence in Europe nevermind an ever improving.

I think its a very well planned cycle. Celtic will be good for Neils career. It has been good for the PLC. Profits and bonuses. For as long as we have no European ambition and a following that are happy to be there as a back slapping side show. Then I would not expect the current modus operandi to change.

Owen Coyle I reckon. A far more SFA and Old Firm friendly prospect and he will be cheap as chips.

If we get more than a Willo Flood this window I will be surprised but if that does happen I will naturally reassess my predictions

I am normally the happiest of clappers but today was as dire as I can recall for a long time. Was all set for a nice day with Mrs C in the lounge, then a few goals to enjoy. Firstly the lounge was freezing, and seemed to get colder as kick off approached – is this a new acclimatisation strategy or more austerity?

To the game itself, the Thistle support backed their team for the 90 minutes, and to be honest I was almost wishing them a goal myself by the end. They deserved it for their energy, directness when they attacked and organisation in defence. The first two were completely missing in our team, and even the latter was patchy with at least three Thistle headers which in another day might have sneaked in.

After the game Neil commented yet again on the tired heavy legs, he’s been saying this for weeks but still puts out the same guys, why not freshen things up. Surely rather than bringing stokes and Sammi on he could have given Balde a chance along side Pucki. Pucki, I thought did reasonably well albeit not threatening to trouble the scorekeeper, but again linked ok and worked back well. Having said that we shouldn’t need a striker working back against the likes of Thistle.

On directness, I lost count of the times a Celtic player would get half a yard on the outside of a defender and then instead of taking him on would wheel back and play a sidewards or backwards pass. Are they not being encouraged to take on their man?

I love my football and seeing Celtic win but days like today do make it hard to Simonon up the enthusiasm to return.

That said I will no doubt be back in my usual seat for the next match.

    !!bada bing!!

I don’t believe a word that the club says. They lie at the drop of a hat. You shouldn’t either.

I think that recruitment is done by commitee resulting in those that wear a shirt and tie to work to believe that due to their participation in this process that gives them more say in selling.

  28. Auldheid 19.15- I was thinking the same thing, if a punter called 3 professionals “jokers” Delahunt would have been all over him like a rash.

He later tried to shift the guilt to a caller over who pulled him up over it by somehow dragging exRangers players into the debate.

Can’t believe Celtic will let this one go. Surely to God they won’t.

Also, how many times have we heard MSM pundits say “it’s a results driven business”- Not mentioned today, not even once, does not fit their anti Celtic agenda.

I get what you’re saying and I always go back to Basel, having watch them reach the semis of the Europe, go to Chelsea and Tottenham and play attacking stylish football, sell their best players and return the next season with viable replacements to chase their fifth Swiss title I think what is it they’re doing that we are not?

They have a good youth set and they shop in the Balkans, the also have access to South American markets denied to us by some archaic rules and regs, our scouting team seem to have deserted us this year and we are left with a group of players that not only have we not seen playing we still have no idea if they are good enough!
