I had high hopes for Tom Rogic and don’t know what went wrong there. Very limited game time.
The forward line is a combination of what today’s project now costs poor scouting and our dogmatic approach to wages and fees. Very frustrating.
We also have to be more discerning about the youth setup. It produces too little by way of it’s stated aim and if it’s holding us back in terms of purchasing better developed players elsewhere then time to be bold.

Big Wavy,
It was!!
It seems after every game we get the same debate. Good result, poor entertainment. Entertainment is poor because not a lot of chances are created and much of the possession statistics consist of sideways or backwards passing.
Going back to my own coaching days I recall that the basics of attacking were:
Firstly, try to send a pass to be received by a forward in the direction that he wants to go—i.e towards goal. Avoid passing to someone who has several defenders forcing him to have his back to the goal.
Secondly, there are four basic ways to attack:
1. Pass behind the defence
We can try a thru pass or pass to someone who makes a diagonal run to the back post.
2. Pass to the side of the defence
The give-n-go round the side of the defence; or the overlap—run into space to create a hole for another to run through.
3. Pass in front of the defence
Pass square ball back and forth across the front of the defence.
4. Faked passes and tricks
For example, back heel or stop the ball for a following teammate and keep running past the defence to receive his pass.
Ask yourself how much of the above do you see in our performances and which part of the field that each occurs.
Certainly, there is a lot of #3 and that is the problem.
Very little of #1 but when it happens it creates chances and goals –remember Commons goal vs Inverness.
#4 is almost non-existent.
I am not convinced that buying a striker is the solution if we keep using the same attacking strategy because it creates few chances. We need to change our pattern of attack, even if it means risking giving the ball away more frequently. I am not confident that the coaches are prepared to accept that —- and there’s the rub.

Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on
Poor performance today, as everyone says. Glad to get the points.
Thought the setup at the start was odd – Neil started Jamsie on the left (I think he is better on the right), Commons on the right wing (much more effective one in, or central, where he is on the ball more and can slip passes in), and played with three fairly defensive midfielders (Broonie, Charlie and Joe) against a struggling Thistle side.
All of this led, I think, to a situation where we had little positive play from the centre of the park, and we resorted to side-to-side or backward passing. Even when there were changes in position (Charlie moved left eventually, and Jamsie switched), the die seemed to have ben cast and not a lot changed – we continued with the side-to-side and backward passing.
Having been a critic previously, I did think Pukki covered a lot of ground, but with no backup and absolutely no service whatsoever.
Midfield, forward-looking, creative play is much more of a problem than striking for us. It is impossible to judge the strikers when they have little or nothing to feed off. Fix the midfield first, then we can see if the strikers we already have on the books are any good.

Keep the ball ( this is his mantra as a player and manager ) ; he drums it into the players. This is one of the main reasons we have this one dimensional sideways passing take place. Keep a clean sheet is his other mantra.

The entertainment value is zero. Today like many season ticket holders I passed along with the bhoys.

Big George,
I agree we cannot judge the strikers until we fix the midfield. We have a midfield in Lenny’s own image–remember the way he played? Break up the opposition’s attacks and move the ball sideways with a short pass.
Also have you noticed that we tend to buy or play a lot of wingers –Derk is an out and out winger; I believe that Pukki is really a winger; Stokes is better running in from the wing; Samaras is a winger; Forest is also a winger, who may develop into a midfielder. Balde is only purchase from the last window that is not a winger.
Why are we doing this?
We have a fleet of excellent backs who can throw in great crosses but there is nobody there to attack them—they are all out on a wing playing just inside the full backs.

Evening my friends in Celtic,
Up the Dubs, a very warm welcome to you.
I fully back NFL, after all he has had to endure since coming to Scotland ( And not only down Govan way I may add ) he deserves our support.
He has earned that right.
That is not to say he cannot be criticised. Constructive criticism is a positive thing. Yes ; He has made mistakes, he is still making them, but I believe he is in an impossible position. Ref Tony Watt. The manager must manage or his authority diminishes, same with Alan Thompson.
Our league is a one horse race, but winning playing entertaining football must be a priority. At times our games are dire, we cannot dress that up. The crowd and atmosphere reflect that, especially at Parkhead.
If we sign the best talent in Scotland we further weaken the opposition and therefore make the league less competitive. If we win 5-0 every game it will be down to the standard of opposition.
If we don’t win every game 5-0 we will be criticised for failing to beat inferior opposition.
Make no mistake he is managing in a unique situation. Domestic football no longer excites or motivates us. Europe is our only yardstick. IMO once we were out of Europe all the dissatisfaction would emerge. It was / is inevitable.
