Chill your jets, excuse to fail

849

Chill your jets.  Far better to win and score five goals in a preseason friendly than to lose, but these games are all about improving fitness, the score is the least important aspect. Notwithstanding that, I’m pleased Teemu Pukki showed some form in front of goal. I don’t think Celtic would stand in his way if he found a potential new employer, but if he remains with us this season, his pace is likely to sit comfortably with the Ronny Deila model.

After missing the bulk of the last two Champions League campaigns through injury and Brazilian diving, news that Scott Brown will miss an extended period as a consequence of his hamstring injury is a blow to club and player.

It could have been worse. Celtic lost Scott for the bulk of last season’s Champions League on 1 October, when they were unable to compensate by tweeking the squad. Expectations are we will be without the player until October and we are only nine days into the transfer window. Lots of time to ensure we are at full strength when the meaty part of the season starts.

Brazil players and Phil Scolari turned up for yesterday’s semifinal wearing Naymar caps in the absence of their star striker. Their Excuse To Fail – emblazoned across their foreheads. Literally!

Add to the mix what can only be described as inappropriately enthusiastic anthem singing, while holding up the no. 10 shirt of, let’s remember, another player, not a fallen war hero, and you have all the ingredients for cloudy and unstructured thinking, instead of focus and awareness.

I don’t doubt this was all well-meaning but it was amateurish naivety. Players should turn up to a stadium with their game plan dominating their minds, not lamenting the loss of their best hope, having been consumed by national pride, one of mankind’s enduring fallacies. The Brazilian FA should immediately sack Roy Hodgson Big Phil.

Has all this Tour de Yorkshire business put you in the mood to get the bike out? If you why don’t you sign up for the Cardenden Cycle, which this year takes place on 6 September. You cycle from Celtic Park to the grave of John Thomson in Cardenden, Fife, a 64 mile journey. Full details are here.

If your cycling days are over, they are looking for drivers and stewards… if you’re available.

That was a no risk encounter. After last night’s offering, it was an insipid display for me.

I don’t think we signed anyone before the CL qualifiers last season either. Still got through though.

As for Pukki, why don’t you get off his back. If he wasn’t scoring you’d be sticking the boot in as well.

Obviously, you just like a moan. Good luck to you. Try enjoying life.

I have never been on Pukkis back.I think he is a decent player. You have totally missed the point of my post.We are being led to believe,by people like yourself, that Pukki,Kayal,Henderson, are the guys who will get us into the CL.If I dont share your confidence,I like a moan !!!!! ?.The fact that we scrambled through last year seems to mean that we will do it again this year. Two players that did not cut it last year, and a kid.

    Great forward planning.

  4. Most players coming into a new country take time to adjust (Johansen being an exception). I would keep Teemu and Amido (who is just a kid after all). Derek, just too many injuries, so goodbye to him

No mention on ITV coverage after the game or BBC news one minute ago about Argentina scoring what looked to be a good goal in the game.

I enjoyed it, and am enjoying it even more again with a top class dram.

other than the fact that stating strength training could make you faster/stronger, I have to say its the biggest load of sh*te I’ve read from someone who desnt have a scooby about football, its training methods and what makes a quality footballer.

I have no doubt he is a world-class strength trainer but to say he studied training methods in Germany, USSR, USA without acknowledging any of the methods used in football is beyond a joke. (As if the USSR and even the current USA team didnt/dont know anything about training)

You know there is a few questions I have about rangers. maybe people on here can clarify or counter anything I’m saying – it’s good for establishing truths if people can counter. I understand that plenty of you will get your knickers in a twist here, but please accept that I’m not fishing, baiting, trolling, a green hun, a hun etc.

It IS the case that rangers under SDM were advised correctly about EBTs, a very risky strategy but nonetheless correct (however unjust). This is the crux of the big tax case is it not? 24m plus years of fines and interest amounting to an enormous sum.

So this in court has been ‘approved’ as such, so concerns surrounding the BTC were ill founded (subject to further action by HMRC).

There was a toxicity surrounding rangers because of this, and the MIH group. As we know, Lloyds began pressuring SDM for repayment of debts and SDM, losing his nerve and showing poor judgement, sold the club for £1 to a charlatan in a possibly fraudulent transaction. Indeed, if Collyer Bristol (law firm of Craig Whyte) are successfully sued for 24m as BDO are currently undertaking, the oldco’s assets will be worth more than the debt which liquidated it.

My point is, Rangers Tax Case and Phil provided the narrative all throughout rangers implosion, a narrative which may have been not strictly correct and which was eventually accepted by the media, the scottish fans. The narrative of a doomsday BTC which their club would never escape from, making it impossible to sell rangers to a credible candidate after murray lost his nerve.

What if rangers had been stripped of titles prior to today’s verdict?

Were they the victims (ok I’m going too far) of an illegal takeover by a psychopath abetted by a spooked murray?

If the SFA were asleep on their watch, and passed Whyte as a fit and proper person, as he carried out an illegal takeover-who is actually at fault here? Just how culpable are the SFA?

Feel free to pick it apart.

I should add, Rangers Tax Case and Phil deserve a knighthood. Arise Sir Phil……

  21. I see that the big tax case has been settled in favour of Sir David Murray. He is not a bad guy. We sat at the table next to him in a restaurant in Jersey…..he bought quite a few drinks after dinner. Told us that he was the first non Mason to be in charge of Rangers ever. Fergus and him did not like each other (he said) but he totally encouraged Souness to buy Catholic players……also said that Charlie Miller (Catholic young boy) would become a big star….well that was wrong. He didn’t do anything wrong…..got good advice from professional legal counsel.

In truth, Celtic should have been doing the same !

A poster on here put up a recent piece that he’d copied from FF.

This piece appeared to assert that BDO were successful in their action against Colyer Bristow to the tune of 15million GBP.

Maybe someone else has more detail on it.

Many Celtic fans have been convinced that they died. No they were just liquidated and they pulled enough of the old club from the fire to justify what they have done since.

The reality is that the stadium is there, the fans are there, the culture is still there, and indeed a team calling themselves TRFC exists.

We can shout what we want but the reality is that they never went away, they are just having a spell in the lower divisions, and they will be back in the SPL at some point. The same bile, the same culture, the same bitterness.

I do not miss games against them, and would be happy if they never happened again.

I just watched a program called Scotland: For Richer or Poorer. My son recorded it along with all the other endless indy debate shite he records while he makes up his mind as an 18 year old about the future of our country.

What made this one much much more interesting was that it was a Robert Peston gig and he went the length and breadth of Scotland. His mannerisms are comical but I like him as much as I like MWD’s pizza recopies.

I miss the games but not their supporters. There is this slow UVF chant they do that sounds like a neanderthal tribe. They have too many nut cases in their support- whether it’s PTSD I don’t know. I have previously seen a correlation between unprovoked attacks on asian men and Rangers playing at home. Squaddie day at Ibrox saw some particularly violent assaults in the city centre on asian men. Scary stuff.

But let’s get real, 99% are just normal guys who happen to have a slightly different life experience than us, but as close as you can get.
