Clyde FC point SFA and SPL to contractual and judicial facts

865

I received updates direct from last week’s Scottish Football League meeting shortly after it concluded.  My information was that Neil Doncaster in particular was given a torrid time and that the mood among clubs was firmly against agreeing to place Sevco into the First Division.

Within a couple of hours it was clear that many in the media had been given a different impression and that if the vote was taken then, a ‘healthy majority would vote in favour’.  To a degree I think we are all susceptible to messages we want to hear but it has been a feature of this debacle that executives from the national bodies have given clear guidance to the media that ‘Newco’ would be voted into the SPL, as it was, or now into the First Division.

On more than one occasion I’ve heard “You might have heard different, but Neil Doncaster told me….”

There is no shortcut for legwork and attention to detail.  On this subject, credit to STV, who present informed information on how Friday’s vote is likely to pan out, with references.  Of the 30 clubs in the SFL, the report 14 have declared an intention to vote against plans to plant Sevco into the First Division, one will abstain and one has (incorrectly) been told they are ineligible to vote.  Another 14 are yet to declare.

It seems likely that the SFL vote will go the way of the SPL vote.  There is a desire to retain the sporting element to our game among clubs, if not among administrators.

In a statement yesterday Clyde FC nailed several of the myths behind threats made to SFL clubs:

“We have obtained a copy of the Settlement Agreement signed up to by the SPL and the SFL in April 1998 – it is clear that the agreement is not ambiguous in this regard and there is no scope for the SPL to fail to meet the obligations to the SFL except by deliberately breaching the agreement… We have concluded that it defies credibility that the SPL clubs would instruct the SPL to deliberately breach a legal agreement.

“The matter is made worse because of the extent of uncertainty which hangs over Sevco. There is no need to prepare an exhaustive list of the issues as they are well publicised, however the extent of outstanding sanctions that may or may not be levied against a club which has yet to obtain SFA membership, together with the increasing number of possible commercial and legal challenges to the transactions to date simply presents a significant risk to the ability of the club to fulfil its fixtures in any league. Given that some of these matters are in the hands of the governing bodies it seems inexplicable that they are left hanging.”

In short, the Scottish Football League has a binding contract with the SLP which they are entitled to enforce.  Clyde also refer on the matter we have discussed here for many weeks, Sevco are trying to buy a SFA membership which has significant outstanding disciplinary issues against it which could see the membership suspended.  Instead of providing clarity, the SPL and SFA have refused to set deadlines of proceed with hearings.

We can speculate if SFA chief exec, Stewart Regan, will inform SFL clubs in person on Friday of plans to disband judicial oversight from our game instead of asking Lord Carloway’s panel to reconvene.

Despite the valiant efforts of many football fans and clubs, our game has been ruined by years of destructive, self-serving, leadership.

  15. God bless Joe. RIP.

    From WIKI –

McBride was born in Govan, just 200 yards from the home of Rangers.[2] He signed for Kilmarnock when he was 15, and was loaned out to Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.[2] He made an immediate impact when he was brought into the Kilmarnock first team, and was sold to Wolves for £12,500, a significant transfer fee at the time.[2] McBride failed to settle in England, however, and his career only really took off when he signed for Motherwell.[2]

McBride was Motherwell’s top goalscorer in three successive seasons, which attracted the attention of new Celtic manager Jock Stein, who signed him for a fee of £22,000 in 1965.[2] Along with Alex Ferguson of Dunfermline, McBride was the top goalscorer in the 1965–66 Scottish League with 31 goals.[3] He again scored prolifically during the 1966–67 season, but suffered a serious injury in December 1966.[2] This injury meant that although McBride was part of the Lisbon Lions squad, he did not play in the 1967 European Cup Final.[2]

He never regained a regular place in the Celtic side, and subsequently transferred to Hibernian in 1968.[2] McBride quickly regained his goalscoring form with Hibs, scoring on his debut, against Rangers, a hat-trick in his second match, against Lokomotive Leipzig, and four goals in his third match, against Morton.[2] He was Hibs’ top goalscorer in both the 1968–69 and 1969–70 seasons,[2] and scored a second European hat-trick for Hibs, against Malmö FF.

McBride left Hibs in 1971, apparently because the club were unhappy that he did not want to move from his home in Glasgow.[2] He ended his playing career in 1972 after short spells with Dunfermline and Clyde. McBride’s son, also named Joe, also became a professional footballer.[2]

He won two caps for Scotland, both in 1967 British Home Championship matches.[4] McBride also scored eight goals in just four appearances for the Scottish League XI.[5]

  16. Sadly the only time I saw Joe play he scored 2 goals at Easter Rd for Hibs v Celtic……shooting down the famous slope….

I had the pleasure of meeting Joe and being in his company many times. I never ceased to be amazed with how modest, and unassuming and nice a person he was.

If there is a blessing it will be his reunification with his dear wife whose passing hit him so hard a few years ago.

A true gent and great Celt.

  20. How much longer are these scumbags going to influence the decisions regards rangers whatever there called . How much farther down do they want to take scottish football ..How long is it going to take for the decent chairmen, from the decent clubs, to call time on these morons who in my opinion have FINISHED scottish football . The men with integrity from raith and clyde and the other chairmen with b***S ,from the other clubs who see what is going on ,please vote NO . Vote NO to the three stooges carrying on in the capacity that has seen the game we love being made a laughing stock . Vote no to them having any further part in the governance of scottish football ,And a resounding YES to a vote of no confidence in the whole stinking empire they have built for themselves to the detriment of 99% of other member clubs . Why they havent had the influencing hand removed from the necks of the decent law abiding clubs before this is unbelievable , And why they havent been brought to task for there support of this rule breaking outfit earlier is even more unbelievable .

Some deaths are welcomed, rightly, and are long overdue, such as Thems.

Campbell Ogilvie is pulling Regan & Doncasters strings, can’t everyone see that? The fact that Mr “Heavily Conflicted” is still in office speaks volumes concerning this coverup.

Think about it? Why is he still in office? Ogilvie is the problem here and always has been since “The Rules are what I want them to mean” George Peat that put “What School did you go to” Ogilvie in to power.

Are we all blind to their jobs for the peepul only cabal? Ogilvie and his predecessors were hand picked by their fore bearers, Ernie Walker, Jim the Godfarry, George Peat. They will never leave voluntarily, they are not allowed to. Cant you all see the connection?
