Clyde flows west but tide of football history flows east to Parkhead

574

Dalglish, we are told, ran to his bedroom to rip posters off the wall, in case Sean Fallon would see them and reconsider, but Celtic have always been open to all. Kenny will tell you, he was assured Rangers were preparing to sign him, but this was Celtic. In 1967. He knew which way the tide of history was flowing.

Sean’s boss, The Boss, once spent his free Saturdays following Rangers. Stein didn’t just become a lapsed Rangers fan, according to his friend and biographer, Archie Macpherson. As Celtic manager, he made it his business to wholly and completely end the dominance they had over the then humble team from Parkhead. I’ll spare the detail of how that sentiment translated down to the vernacular.

Scott Allan made no secret of his boyhood allegiances. He would have gone to Ibrox in a flash, as would so many of our historic greats, but this decision came down to a simple truth. The basic salary on offer at Celtic is around three times what the jungle drums were offering across the city. This disparity means it’s not just about the money, it’s about that tide of history, which Kenny Dalglish knew so well.

Today is witness to one more veil being peeled off, exposing more of the consequences of what happened when Rangers decided not to make provisions for the inevitable challenge to their aggressive tax avoidance schemes. Their Discounted Options Scheme was found to be illegal, as were several of their Employee Benefit Trusts, with the remainder subject to appeal, but the club went to the wall because that inevitable challenge made it impossible for them to borrow other people’s money.

Liquidation followed and hundreds of creditors were left unpaid, but while a newco from such ashes could change their name to Rangers and wear the same jerseys, it was always going to look like an off-key tribute act. This was never going to be about three years in the lower leagues.

That news is just as good as the SA signing. Liam Henderson could turn out to be part of a very special Celtic midfield of the future.

Bourne, the hole is the one in Sevco’s finances.

I’m looking forward to seeing Scott hitting some great through balls to our players. We need guys who will also anticipate where he will play the ball or make the runs to connect with his passes.

The old Quarry Bar and nearby orange lodge in Rutherglen will be even more hunnish than ever tonight, seething that the local boy won’t be at Ibrox. Oh dear, what a pity, never mind.

Super scoreboard.. Aye tonight ah enjoyed BFDJ’s obvious pain. Even in the last 10 minutes he was saying something “could” have happened to Scott Allen at the medical as there was no official announcement. Clearly what he wishes. Hopefully Allen goes on to have a good career at Parkhead, but he will need to watch all the traps the hurtin Hun media will inevatibely set for him. Make no mistake some of these guys are pure evil and will try their utmost to hype up all the sick sevconians to a seriously dangerous level. In most walks of life ah can’t be doing with one upmanship but hey ho if it’s to diedco or sevco it’s perfectly fine ! Hail Hail to a great weekend for all Hoops fans !

a wonderful post, and unashamed to say i have tears in my eyes after reading that

brought back memories of my first visit to the old celtic park with my now departed Da and then years later taking my son to his first game after the new stadium was built.

once inside, after getting his juice, we walked up the steps together and he got his first view of the pitch… i said welcome to paradise son, it must have been at least 2-3 minutes of silence before he said…….WOW

your grandson will treasure tmrw, these memories will last him forever and one day he will take his son and grandson on the same magical path to watch the Celtic

Sorry that you are still having problems with the site.

We have sorted all the problems on the previous to do list.

Paul changed, upgraded and increased the capacity on the server but it has not been enough. We are publishing quick news stories – like the Scott Allan one earlier tonight – and these are being consumed by big audiences outwith the comments.

Paul has upped the server capacity again so we will get there and the problems will disappear just like the hope at Ibrox.

If you can keep me advised on how it is working – or not – at your end it will be appreciated.

WTF has signing a championship player got to do with things, it’s no like he is going to be a first choice pick, and if the truth be know, it’s really not doing our chances of qualification for the CL any good, is it ?

The Lewis MacLeod transfer was a strange one indeed. He hasn’t kicked a ball for Brentford since he was signed – and it was shortly after his signing that “Warbs” fell out with his chairman.

Scott Allan has just arrived at his ‘Once a Tim’ stage in life. He is about to experience the ‘Always a Tim’ stage.

  21. Welcome Scott.

You will get a chance to play football the Glasgow Celtic way. It should suit you. Take it.

Good management to assure Liam that he has a future with us. Must be reassuring for the Bhoy when we have signed another player in the same position.

I was steamboats tonight. Literally, as I went doon the watter on the Waverly. The engines on that ship still have a memorising magic about them. On the way back, just as we passed a dilapidated structure in Govan, we were greeted by some locals mooning at us. At least one was of the XXXL category. Not a pleasant sight.

Looking forward to a good performance tomorrow before the big one on Wednesday.

  22. What i saw of Liam Henderson imo he was an excellent left sided mf player

who fitted in to our style of play.

Disappointed that he has been loaned out again.

Why do we not invest in the Hibs and Dundee Utd youth projects ?
