Coaching, Brendan’s open canvass

580

Apologies for recent radio silence.  Lots going on with some weighty matters which will soon be of interest to you, unfortunately didn’t have time to blog for a few days.

So much going on simultaneously but I can’t really focus on anything with the daunting evening ahead tomorrow. Season Two of the Brendan Rodgers era will be considerably influenced by the events in Trondheim. Rosenborg are a shadow of their former glory, but Celtic must patch a team together and win (or secure a score draw) in Norway to reach the Champions League group stage.

Most Celtic fans I speak to expect us to win the game, but we’re an optimistic lot (cough). Let’s hope that’s based on sound reason.

I was surprised to hear Shaun Maloney has been speaking to Brendan Rodgers about a youth coaching role at Celtic. Shaun was a rare graduate of the Celtic youth system under Martin O’Neill, breaking through as an 18-year-old in 2001. He will also know more about Lennoxtown than practically any player, as he gorged on gym time there during lengthy periods of injury, while others were resting.

Does he have what it takes to be a good youth coach? This is a difficult one to answer. Look east. Ian Cathro had an exemplary record as youth and assistant coach under some talented managers, assisting at Valencia and Newcastle. But Cathro’s success was down to the management structure he flourished under. On his own, at Hearts, he perished. Sacked four days before the league kicks off.

If Shaun joins the Celtic coaching setup he will begin a new tutelage under Brendan Rodgers. The manager may be looking for an intelligent, open, canvass, to work with.

Many thanks and good luck!

  1. Celtic Champs Elect on

See Auldheid has been subjected to the treatment on here. Well what the hell do we care? After all what’s he ever done for us?

I can’t understand why Auldheid or anyone with an iota of common sense would debate with the negative clown that is NegAnon he has been on here for years peddling his nonsense DO NOT FEED THE TROLL FFS

  2. Cultsbhoy says Hail Hail to Hector and Brendan on

There is an element.. I suspect very tiny number of idiots who attach themselves to our Support.. But are not representative of our true fan base.. Who need identified. They need banned. They need reported to authorities for hate crime. In all probability they need treatment.

Those filmed singing the Lee Rigby song are among those people.

Truth is they probably don’t even understand sport, football far less Celtic.

  3. Yes i for one condemn it

For the avoidance of doubt I don’t think that the GB were involved, there wasn’t any Stone Island olive khaki to be seen anywhere

    Hartley for Hearts ?

Some suggesting that he wouldn’t work under Levein. He played under Levein did he not?

I think there might be something in it.

So that probably means there’s no chance it will happen… :)

As a general point to anyone, why is Cathro getting so much stick? It didn’t work out for him but I found him to be generally inoffensive. What did he do to upset so many neutrals?

    Good man.

Actually didn`t say that the GB were involved , but that`s all the apologists have got to divert attention.

Its what they do when they have no leg to stand on .

A minor detail ignored by Sherlock down under, the GB don’t wear football jerseys. These lads were decked out.

Where they are seated in CP is irrelevant. They crossed a line. You don’t punish everyone around them.

Maybe we should just go the whole hog and ban supporters clubs? Been known to play a few choice tunes on the way to matches!

A bit like Jock Stein and the Lisbon Lions tapes on the buses. What did that ‘lend itself’ to?!

Personally the institutionalised campaign to get at us has jumped up a notch, i wonder how that happened?

Im amazed at the organisational skills required that get the Police, SMSM and others all aligned, this is not sarcasm this is actually happening, perhaps this could be next on the proactive police’s agenda, did they ever arrest anyone for wanton vandalism, weekly sectarian singing, offensive banners, assaults ad nauseom

As an aside the way PLC are handling this publicly is nothing short of sacrilege

  8. Once all of the noise abates and the right wing tabloids and their readers move back to being ‘outraged’ by muslims, immigrants, etc., it will be interesting to see how many, if any, of the 12 arrested are charged, and how many, if any, of those charged are found guilty?

There’s a flip side to that coin TD. Where you berate people who have tried to enlighten themselves through advanced education.

Would it be fair to say that politically you are closer to Stephen Yaxley Lennon than you are to the Green Brigade?

  11. Thankfully my parents gave me an education, they also taught me that being a right wing racist was not the path to go down, thank God I listened to them.

  12. Possession will be key tomorrow night. For that reason I would go for McGregor in place of Rogic. I feel McGregor retains possession better than Rogic. Does that change sacrifice creativity though??

  13. The AA has fired its executive chairman, Bob Mackenzie, for gross misconduct with immediate effect.

Presumably there has been a break down in relations.

I’d play McGregor tomorrow night and use Rogic, and Ntcham, from the bench. Middle three of McGregor, Brown, Armstrong, front three of Hayes, Griffiths, Sinclair

  15. Davidopolous

Knowing that what I think doesn`t matter I would nevertheless like to see both McGregor and Rogic in the team because I rate them highly. Would both be possible?

    JJ

  16. Gary67

Yep I think that would be our strongest middle to front for this match.

Hayes is a better option than Forrest for THIS match because of his ability to take snap shots in and around the box.

At the back I would keep the same 4 as last week.

Yeah I think Armstrong would have to come in to that line up.

Rogic is more likely to create that wee bit of magic, but I also think McGregor is more likely to keep Celtic in possession and dictating the tempo.
