Coaching, Brendan’s open canvass

580

Apologies for recent radio silence.  Lots going on with some weighty matters which will soon be of interest to you, unfortunately didn’t have time to blog for a few days.

So much going on simultaneously but I can’t really focus on anything with the daunting evening ahead tomorrow. Season Two of the Brendan Rodgers era will be considerably influenced by the events in Trondheim. Rosenborg are a shadow of their former glory, but Celtic must patch a team together and win (or secure a score draw) in Norway to reach the Champions League group stage.

Most Celtic fans I speak to expect us to win the game, but we’re an optimistic lot (cough). Let’s hope that’s based on sound reason.

I was surprised to hear Shaun Maloney has been speaking to Brendan Rodgers about a youth coaching role at Celtic. Shaun was a rare graduate of the Celtic youth system under Martin O’Neill, breaking through as an 18-year-old in 2001. He will also know more about Lennoxtown than practically any player, as he gorged on gym time there during lengthy periods of injury, while others were resting.

Does he have what it takes to be a good youth coach? This is a difficult one to answer. Look east. Ian Cathro had an exemplary record as youth and assistant coach under some talented managers, assisting at Valencia and Newcastle. But Cathro’s success was down to the management structure he flourished under. On his own, at Hearts, he perished. Sacked four days before the league kicks off.

If Shaun joins the Celtic coaching setup he will begin a new tutelage under Brendan Rodgers. The manager may be looking for an intelligent, open, canvass, to work with.

People were offended at a football ground.

    That’s a crime.

This is disturbing. And a total waste of resources.

No matter your views about the GB this goes beyond them. This is sinister and if you are unable to see that through your anti-GB feelings your myopia is acute.

Sometimes you would spot them running amok down Byres Rd in the style of a young, sideburned, and extremely drunk Karl Marx. There was a UVF banner at Poundland a few months back, SFA must be cool with that…

  6. ‘Patch a team together’ !!!!!!!!! We had basically the whole of last season to have a squad ready for the QUALIFIERS not the Champions league proper. That is the most important part of Celtic’s season . To have not strengthened where we needed it and adde to where we didn’t need more bodies is crazy , It was easily foreseen. Bioth MD and LG were out for long periods last season and MD had not yet got back to fitness. So to not buy another rcentre forward is foolish . no bad luck at all. At CH we only have one decent player. We needed to but there. and alos letting Izzy go could haunt us.

I fear, you are 100% correct.

It really isn’t that complicated and Celtic will only seek any sort of change if they are dragged kicking and screaming., and even then……

Ask yourself this, what would wee Fergus have done? Again, it really is that simple.

    Excellent post.

  9. Cathro is an idiot…and so is anyone who made him a manager.. though it would have been levein who bought all the dud players.

Apologies. From the Byres Rd Socratic Marxists? Thats asking a lot, because most of the time they are holed up in a basement in Cecil St, frantically scribbling revolutionary pamphlets, and pooling their meagre resources for assorted mind-bending substances, usually lentils and bananas:), as they all train to be community activists.

Their squat is very similar to the local University that they all got thrown out of:)

Has it been established that those involved in the moronic chant about Lee Rigby occupy the standing section at Celtic Park and if so what relevance has that anyway?

Also, as far as I am aware, the footage is from outside the ground. I’m not sure what ‘Peter’ is supposed to do, stand at the border and stop traffic from passing that contain supporters who may or may not chant an offensive song in the street a few hours later?!

  17. Lol, I must admit that Troll thingie amuses me, it’s a uni thing right? Is it a take down on someone,? or is it someone who doesent agree with someone?, or has a different opinion? Or is it that the persons who are accusing people of being one are that we bit above that person? I’m thinking it’s obviously not a nice thing, I see many in here accusing others of being that word that’s fine, but I’m now noticing people on here who are let’s just say supposed to be clever educated and noted as to being the go to guy or guys on several things of importance in here using it, I’m afraid imo it does not bode well with the skills of the knowledge people think you have, and personally I think you not knowingly doing yourself an injustice, just a thought, .HH

We have been to Rosenborg before. We have been to Molde and Malmo. To Copenhagen and Aalborg. Been beaten every time.

If we go with the attitude of “no problem – we’ll score an away goal and go through” we’ll be in trouble.

I think we will score but we will do well to hold them to one.

I’m afraid the whatabouterie by many clouds the issue and is just an excuse, instead of just calling it wrong for what it is, and demand that it is stopped, and these people get named and shamed, the……yes it’s terrible, but what about blah blah blah …….that doesent cut for me, to me that looks like your avoiding the issue, which I’m afraid imo, makes you condoning it, cut fry and come out with it, no avoiding tactics to make it a discussion, there isn’t one, your done, your done.

  25. I blame dialectical materialism for the current problems with the disconnect between fans & the board. Nothing short of signing Leon Trotsky an outstanding left wing visionary in the mould of Padddy Roberts will quell the unrest :)

  26. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

If Griffiths doesn’t make it I’d go with a front two pairing of Forrest and Sinclair. Probably 3-5-2. Hayes, Armstrong, Brown, McGregor, Tierney across the middle. Or maybe Tierney left side of defence with McGregor left mid and Kouassi coming in.

Front two would need to work the spaces in between the centre-backs and full-backs. This would force the full-backs to tuck in and make sure the CBs aren’t exposed. That then gives our wide players room to attack down the outsides.

    Job done!
