Concerning Irish history

1604

When Celtic make their trip to the ‘neat little town they call Belfast’ (I’ve been off radar recently, assume it’s still described thus) they will have no reason to believe they are ready for a game of football which could determine the success or failure of the coming season.  Instead the players will share a degree of anxiousness.

Cliftonville rank about as low as is possible to get in European competition but they will be better than the Arbroath team which left Glasgow with a draw last season against a Celtic team who were motoring at the time.

We have some concerning history against the Irish.  Celtic’s first ever Champions League qualifier was against St Patrick’s Athletic in 1998.  The visitors left Celtic Park with a 0-0 draw before Celtic won 0-2 in Ireland.  In the 1979-80 European Cup Dundalk gave us a fright.  Celtic won the first leg 3-2, at home, but had to endure a nervous second half in Dundalk as the home side searched, in vain as it turned out, for the goal which would allow them to win the tie on away goals.

Anything less than 100% on Wednesday will see Celtic walk a tightrope………

That – was also the season were we lost in the LCF v’s thon died team cause – we lost the midfield battle cause oor – dae-everything mifielder – Murdo was played at left back ?

I think that we’ll reach the group stages of the CL then finish 3rd and get into the EL and reach the Semi’s. imo

Just read phil macs article nuclear weapons to belfast – could you imagine that if true

Bet there is a boy in crossmaglen in his garage now working on mortar ballistics & a boy in twinbrook thinking how big a van he’d need to fit a stolen nuc in !!!!!!!

    Are these people insane ?

  5. Not looking good for Wednesday. UDA/UVF organising the trouble now and beseiging Nationalist area’s.

For all fans travelling to Belfast. I’ve just spoken to a journalist who informs that he has spoken to a Cliftonville director who said fans would be safer not wearing colours in Belfast City Centre due to the on-going troubles. This is along the same lines as recent RT’s

  7. 2 tickets for wednesday night – great birthday present for the oul boy… i had given up all hope

    Mon the hoops!!

    B-)

  8. anything over 5 million and hooper’s history. its a no brainer, jump on that money asap and move on. every player has his price not just at celtic but at every club in the world

the loss of victor and hooper should matter little to the outcome on Wednesday. but as my bro always says, we’ll be there if we deserve to be there, simply, straightforward and true.

    hail hail

  10. so, right to the point, when did Celtic FC move from a 3 leaved Shamrock to a 4 leaved Clover, and why.

    ?

  11. I sincerely hope we don’t have regrets, similar to 1967, when we shouldn’t have played in Montevideo.

UEFA should be closely monitoring the situation, with safety paramount and put the OO in the International spotlight.

Bravado could be a costly mistake.

  12. mentioned this last night and saying it again.

if your going over on the promise of a ticket, accommodation, or a meet up with “a pal”

be super smart and make sure you know the person your meeting and not just their internet persona.

dont be duped or suckered in.

some bad bad stuff on their blogs about targeting strays.

  13. UEFA don’t care about anything except themselves and their fat pay cheques no more no less. They are only accountable to themselves you saw how they stiffed us over Rapid Vienna when TV evidence was there for them. Big gravy train but don’t mess with it, as someone else earlier said corruption in Italy nothing done but Turkey, no moral compass whatsoever.

Just what I have been thinking.

A big game for us and Cliftonville.

An opportunity for victim selection for the local thuggery.

Lenny,in particular, may be in real danger.

As someone said on CQN a long time ago……

CFC is not the athletic wing of PIRA.

We are composed of many shades of green and if 500 people don’t want to make the trip thats their prerogative.

When I have to work with Irishmen internationally who support Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U etc………

I think to myself “WTF is that all about” exactly? Celtic?…….they dont get it at all.

NI is an historical anachronism…….maybe one day it will disappear with the planter orcs but until then…..people just need to deal with it.

  22. Eyes Wide Open on

    Evening all.

Havent posted on here in months – this feels weird!

Whilst I am certainly not telling you all NOT to wear colours, NOT to feel you are within your rights to enjoy conversation, to have a good time and enjoy yourselves.

Those days of us being 2nd class citizens are over.

To all the bhoys travelling over for the game, the order for the day is simply to be sensible.

There is a mob mentality within loyalist working class communities at the minute and sheep will follow other sheep.

Belfast wont be much different to what Glasgow was like until 7-8 years ago regarding being seen in colours.

We dont need to teach you guys to suck eggs but just be conscious that your accent will stick out like a sore thumb.

There is only 1 wetherspoons bar in Belfast which will be dodgy enough because riff raff from Sandy Row (loyalist) frequent there.

If you are taking a pint before or after the game and dont feel comfortable within north Belfast or the City Centre but get a taxi into West Belfast.

Personally I am heading to the Rock Bar on the Falls Road which will have cultural music on before and after the game. I am not sure if they are putting on buses to get people to the game and back or not – they put on buses to get us to Windsor Park for the Cliftonville cup final vs Glentoran (when they lost the chance to win the treble).

Belfast is a very small city, so even if you are in West Belfast, local taxis (safe drivers) will still only cost £10 or so – and if shared between 4 people is the cost of a bus fare.

Also bare in mind that in order for the game to have been given the go ahead, the cops will have had to have given some sort of assurance, if not a guarantee for fans’ safety.

All in all just enjoy the occasion – its going to be a carnival atmosphere. You will be watching the north of Irelands very own Celtic. A club and a team who have been persecuted and discriminated against by those in positions of power within the government and football authorities – and have and still suffer injustice and bias shown towards the establishment team (Rangers aligned Linfield).

Their supporters contain what could arguably the highest concentration of Celtic supporters of any club playing in either top flight league in Ireland (Derry City may also be up there).

We are not talking about the dilution of Liverpool, Man Utd or generally any other EPL team as has happened elsewhere in Ireland.

Their people are our people. Our people are there people.

Celtic is my nationality when it comes to soccer – as much as I would like the Rep of Ireland to be, Celtic is pumping inside 8-10 litres of blood inside my body.

Whilst I will obviously and very passionately be supporting Celtic on the day – this is the only set of circumstances in the world I wouldnt mind if the tie was kept alive for the 2nd leg.

Karma has been in soccer for a few years now and has been busy settling some old scores – Cliftonville deserve the buzz thats flying around the streets of Belfast right now. Its a fairytale story for them and one of their players, Barry Johnston recently admitted that 85% of the dressing room are Celtic supporters.

Enjoy the game, be safe, be an equal, be Celtic.

Why did board agree to travel to Belfast so soon after 12th of July as a matter of choice?

Seems to me to disregard safety of supporters and players.
